When I come out of that movie during its initial release, I told the people I was with that that’s the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, and in 2024, it still holds true, ( for me).
Ben brought much to this role as Harold Abrahams. Cross portrayed him with intensity, determination and a chip on his shoulder. It made for a marked contrast to the character of Eric Liddell portrayed by Ian Charleson.
indeed and the clever piece of editing especially in this scene other thing about Chariots is the soundtrack a film set in the nineteen twenties and an electronic soundtrack by Vangelis i have this on vinyl and Local Hero both movies produced David Puttnam
I am soon to enter my 30th year of life after birth on this planet. Part of my education has been that I watch and study films that were popular when my parents were young. Of all the films I've watched so far, Chariots of Fire is my favorite. When I heard the title, I thought it would be a documentary about UFO's. Although I was confused at first, I was soon delighted to find a film about performance, my own performance in life being of utmost importance to me in my work. I've learned from this film, and I'm back today for a review, a refresher. In this clip, Abrahams goes through the 7 Stages of Grief with Sybil and emerges stronger for it, having dealt with his looking for Liddle, an error which he believes cost him the race, and finding peace within himself, having formed a plan of action for improvement in the coach, Sam Mussabini.
This was the best scene in a great movie loaded with great scenes. Harold Abrahams goes on to the head of the British track and field organization if I understand correctly.
The enlightened soul like the moon casts it's light on all - supposedly an ancient Chinese poem. That dragon house book had to be placed there for me to find but find it I did. Tampopo and IMDb is real enough too. Night Court's narration continues. Texas? Okay. Buzz Saw a light year and a go. Soho - Dan Fielding and a cricket bat given to John Larroquette aka Carl Sack and Lionel Tribbey by the Queen of England to knock the base bawl outta the Shea Stadium.
Great scene but if you look at the other actors in the race, you can clearly see them holding back to allow Ian Charleston and Ben Cross to finish ahead of them.
Chareston wasnt running in the 100 mtrs yur wrong on that point but are totally correct the other athletes were easing up i also saw it they definitely eased up
IAN CHARLESON PASSED AWAY... AIDS BRAD DAVIS PASSED AWAY.... AIDS BEN CROSS PASSED AWAY... CANCER IAN HOLM PASSED AWAY... OLD MAN. May all of them win the Resurrection in THE JUDGEMENT DAY INTO 1000 YEARS IN THE FUTURE.

An amazing film a total masterpiece
Such a poignant, mesmerzing, masterpiece ✨️.......
RIP Mr Ben Cross.. You performance and this movie touched me deeply, and it has remained my favorite film for decades..
This is my favorite movie by far.

He was Dr Andrew Manson in The Citadel, which I well remember watching!
The slamming of those chairs. Marvelously subtle counterpoint.

"You were marvelous...
If you don't run, you can't win."
The reason for choosing this clip
The borg queen talking to Spock's dad.
When cinema was art.
The music, the acting, the repeated defeat, all of these made for fine craftsmanship in this movie.
It's a total masterpiece. Not many will appreciate it, nowadays.
One of the best shot scenes in film history with the combination of slow motion and Vangelis’ inspired music.
You missed the next bit!
"Mr Abrahams?.....I can find you another two yards."
A total masterpiece absolutely excellent extremely unique
1 of the greatest films ever absolutely excellent
It's true... but the culture is now twerking with Cardi B.

Something about the music in this scene: Never fails to give me chills.
Vangelis at his best.
An amazing film an absolute masterpiece

This is the way I would feel when I would lose in a chess tournament. Just complete devastation.
The audio in this movie was amazing.
I don`t run to take beatings!!!!
In order to win you must know when to accept a loss and defeat. This was obviously not his best race and that is why he won the Gold at the end.
Men of character n still racing.
Amazing film absolutely incredible fantastic acting all round amazing
I love the music in this scene. How was it not included in the soundtrack is a mystery.
Extraordinary.
I HATE LOSING MORE THAN I LOVE WINNING- I LIVE TO WIN
I love Sybil here.
those synths tho
Sometimes the music sounds like bladerunner ...!
@@mikem9001 Therefore Blade Runner (1982) sounds like Chariots of Fire (1981). But it makes no difference to Vangelis.
He would find out he can. If it would have been enough perhaps it's another story.
Watch closely how many English men were running against 1 Scot been like that since time started
Does anyone know if this was the only time they raced each other in real life?
Liddell runs like Phoebe Buffay.
If you cannot take a beating you should not compete
The Borg Queen!
fantastic move!!
If yu cannot take yur beating yu shud not compete

Bigger insult togod not to compete on sunday its a kick in the teeth to god who gave liddell his amazing talent
I didn’t see Harold look for Liddell? WTH. Let’s get the continuity straightened out please.
Women…..
The whole scene is fiction. In real life, Abrahams and Sybil did not meet until a decade after the events depicted in this film.
IAN CHARLESON PASSED AWAY... AIDS
BRAD DAVIS PASSED AWAY.... AIDS
BEN CROSS PASSED AWAY... CANCER
IAN HOLM PASSED AWAY... OLD MAN.
