You with that Eulers disk is basically what every Simply Nailogical fan goes through when they see real holographic glitter in nail polish for the first time. Those disk covers are definitely shifting rainbows - especially that last one.
Euler's disks continue to spin for really really long times and are very cool in person. On higher framerates, you can see how neat they are. Also, they have cool mathematical properties.
The holographic pattern doesn't show on camera well under that lighting. Cristine the Holo Queen advises to use the flashlight from your cellphone to capture the glory that is holo on camera!
I think the "Spinner Ball" is brilliant! I've worked in an office type environment and all of the fun cool stuff around to help with stress are noisy. The Spinner Ball is quiet, distracting, and mesmerizing!
My main complaint was that the patterns on the swappable magnetic pads look like the sorts that were common some years back, like in the 90's or something, used to make packaging and gift bags look 'futuristic'. More interesting and varied pads would be a must-have for me. Though the square one was rather good, the other two seemed pretty underwhelming IMO.
Okay not gonna lie...the fish at 7:25 dropped my jaw. Wicked 3D effect on that. The hologram projector idea will take off like crazy, that little piece of plastic will be looked at like an NES in 30 years. Skype and tube sites are going to have fun with this technology lol.
"Techmoan" had one of the "fan" kits he reviewed as well. It's NOT meant to blow air. He didn't have nearly the issues that you had though. He's usually very transparent as well.
Techmoan is likely far more used to dealing with bizarre, badly programmed software. I'm sure he has to hunt obscure drivers for a great deal of older stuff he shows us or uses to convert files for the devices he usually fiddles with, cheap chinese software can be very rough around the edges. The fact that James didn't even own a SINGLE international power plug adapter in his entire home is a testament to the fact that he lives a very, very cushy life in a bubble of US-specific technology. Maybe he added that scene in for dramatic effect. Unnecessary drama, if you ask me. Simply mention it doesn't come with a US plug. No need for a 60 second rant.
mazzalnx I don't see how not owning a plug for OTHER COUNTRIES outlets means he lives "a very cushy life" I didn't have one till I went to Europe so I can see why he was pissed, it should have said has European ac plug. Simple... No need to be a jackass dude
@@directioner3153 Not being a jackass, honestly. I have bought stuff from ebay/china and flea markets my whole life and many times I have had to go for cheaper options, and they come with a wild variety of weird plugs sometimes, I've never complained. The adapters literally cost $1 or even less if you get a pack with 3 or something. If you've never had to buy anything on the "cheap" market, yeah -- yer life is kinda cushy.
Well your video did solve a mystery for me. I used that plastic hologram pyramid as a funnel to fill my salt and pepper shakers. I didn't know where it came from but it's now a great little funnel.
The Hologram projector in the beginning uses a technique called peppers ghost. Basically angled glass or plastic reflecting an image to give the illusion of a hologram or ghost. You can see a lot of examples in Disney parks, most notably on The Haunted Mansion ride.
Fan is bad. I picked one up on the cheap, it's loud and displaying the time is pointless as I always have the time. Unplug it at all, let alone 2 hours, and you have to reset the time. Never use anymore, it was a bad buy (even for $5).
That first "hologram" projector, you can make your own out of some old CD cases. Trace out your templates, score the plastic with a knife or something, cut the trapezoidal shapes out with a dremel. Clean up the edges with a file, super glue them together. Bam.
Nice Waluigi shirt! My son wears a Waluigi hat. As for the Euler's disk I wasn't sure what you were impressed by. Lol I'm guessing it looks better in person.
I'm going to look for the usb clock fan. I like the idea of the holographic fan display but I wish there was a way to stream content into/onto it instead of the use of the micro SD card.
I think i like the spinning gyro the most personally, i can see just spinning it every 4 minutes while working on the computer or reading maybe just seeing the water-like movement would be soothing, calming and it lasts a while which is awesome. The fan projector seems the most useful for an actual 3d display but clearly not the model you have here, seems like a promising prospect for the future though, very cool

Actually the professional ones used at Coachella and VMAs and whatnot, are based on an ancient technique used in Roman times. Modified and modernised by a guy named "Pepper" (that was his last name). The technique is known as pepper's ghost. Basically similar to the first gadget you used.
That first one you showed I think would keep little kids occupied and having fun with it, but that's about it. The spinning disc made nice sounds at least.
I found one of your video's for the $100 pillow... and now I'm just watching reviews for stuff I don't even want. You have an oddly entertaining way of reviewing.
Whooooa, I agree that Euler's disk thing is so cool! I wonder if you can buy or make even more pieces to go with it. Great review as always, sir, and I totally agree with your rankings.
YES! A new Freakin Reviews video with Mr. James WHITE. Always look forward to these, idk why but they're fulfilling. Sad I cant binge watch anymore lol
The Eulers Disk is like when Spongebob and Patrick were in their Imagination box and they were so amazed by it, yet Squidward couldn't see the amazement lol. I guess you have to see it in person bc it literally just looked like nothing was happening, great video tho
I have something like the first one, but it came with a Playmobil Ghostbusters set and it projects Slimer. There also a Stacker arcade machine that uses the tech.
hologram projector is really easy to make at home using clear plastic like they use in clamshell packaging. Four pyramids with flattened tops(rhomboids?) held together with clear tape. Look online for exact dimensional ratio(sides to base to top) as I don't remember, but it does scale up, and even works better when larger and flipped over using a tablet instead of a phone.

"Spock don't look at the light"? I don't know that episode and I know them all. The closeist I can think of is "Is there in truth no beauty" but it was just to close his eyes, and nothing to do with disks like that. It reminds me of the Libary Disks from "All Our Yesterdays"
I made the first hologram thing DIY several years back out of cd case plastic and hot glue when it was a big thing on reddit. Didn't know they were actually produced.
My younger brother actually bought the holographic pyramid gadget years ago. It was pretty cool... for about a 20 minutes. But after that it kinda loses its charm because it doesn't do much. I think we messed around with it for about a week, but afterwards it sat on a table collecting dust and was eventually lost in the clutter only to never be used again.

OK so the confusion over the Euler's disk is that James was kinda reviewing it on how it looks as it spins. But the real reason they are popular is the sound they make as they spins. Some good info videos here on YT that explain how they work.
I have one of those led fans, kind of neat but its a very temporary illusion gadget because the way they power the leds is through a metal spring rubbing against the spinning back side of the fan, that's just going to wear out, and its noisy. Many such usb fans aren't good for long at all, the brushed motors are inefficient, its just going to grind itself to death over time, I just use it to cool a harddrive in a usb dock that is only turned on rarely. The only decent usb fans are computer fan based, brushless, like the zalman fanmate series, but those cost quite a bit more and don't move much air, but are very quiet. AC fans still work best in the end.
If you take the jewel cases from old CDs you can literally make the hologram projector thing yourself if you measure it out and cut the pieces exactly the same way to make that same shape it works the same
And for something to display a video, it would give you more problems if you can control the speed, your eyes can only catch images at some specific range! But I agree with the noise and the wind direction
The wall-mounted hologram "fan" was a total bust. It looked like it would get real old real fast. And the plastic pyramid projector on the phone was pretty silly. I actually have one of those USB fans with the clock. It was pretty cool at work before I retired. It gave me a nice breeze while I worked (I stuck it in the USB port on my monitor so it could point at me), and it looked pretty cool. It was fun. Euler's disks and the top are definitely way cooler than those. I have a Euler's disk. It's a nice example of physics at work.

The Hologram projector in the beginning uses a technique called peppers ghost. Basically angled glass or plastic reflecting an image to give the illusion of a hologram or ghost. You can see a lot of examples in Disney parks, most notably on The Haunted Mansion ride.
I like the spinning balls. But kind of pricey and it'll get old quick.
Does the clock continue to run after it's unplugged? As in, do you have to reset it every time after you've unplugged it for a couple hours?
Yes you have to set the time again, it doesn't have a way to run while unconnected

Was given the Euler's disc as a gift. I like it a lot. Fun to look at when you have a bit of free time and want a very nice distraction
I like the spinny thing the most, seems like a fun desk toy that isn't disruptive to those around you unlike the Eular's disk which is rather loud.
Thanks for the reviews James; not cool you had to spend additional money due to the bait and switch. The hologram effect is cool!
I really don’t understand why I watch and love every single video you post, despite never having any interest in any of the actual products lol.
Must be something lost in transition from live to video on the disc since it just looks like a big coin when your spinning it?!

Yes
I really like the small clock fan. The others would not be used in my house but I'm glad you enjoyed them.
