If I spent half as much time working on making things as I do watching folks do it I'd be good at it. That being said I dig your style sir, subscribed!
Dude, I would be a master machinist, could build furniture and lay tile and drywall like a pro...alas, i just watch. Then again, i can't afford a piece of property to place something like this anyway.
phuturephunk - Exactly! Don't forget kickass blues guitar player. Closet fulla gear but nope - just watch how-to vids...
you can more than do it...just believe...its better to try and fail than never to try at all....i am 41 female mother of 8....i can paint, put up fence, install all type of flooring...name it can can do it....thanks to videos like these...
@@motorv8N that i never try....
Nice, just a tip next time you're hanging drywall on the ceiling, make a T with 2x4's & after you get the sheet of drywall up pull the T to hold it up, then you can take your time putting the screws in.
They do make them
great tip
Cool, woby! Now make another one with just broken skateboards.
I’m a 20 plus year contractor with some advice. When hanging drywall, always hang the ceilings first and then the upper walls. Life will be so much easier. Also, there is a reason to stagger your joints. If and when cracks form, the don’t go the entire length of the joint, they will stop at the staggered joint.
And use glue on the studs.
@@jakesales7321 what kind of glue would you suggest?
Stud adhesive
Jake Sales sorry, I didn’t realize that you had responded. There are many different kinds of adhesive that you can use. There is no such thing as “Stud Adhesive”. There is “Drywall Adhesive” though. You can always used “Liquid Nails” but most people don’t use it correctly. Actually, people don’t use most adhesives correctly. I even did before I was taught the correct way. People glob the adhesive on the one side of the adjoining parts, then they sandwich them together. The proper way is to apply on both parts, put them together, take them apart and then put them back together. If you do this, it will be a cold day in hell before they come apart. You also do this with your drywall. Apply the adhesive to the rafters, in which can be messy but necessary. Also apply the adhesive to the drywall back. To not waste adhesive, I measure where the rafters cross and just apply there. I install the drywall to the rafters, separate, put back and screw it. It seems like a lot of work but I have drywall ceilings that are 18 - 20 years old with no sag. Also remember, when you paint the ceiling, you will be adding weight.
Gyprock stud adhesive
Out of curiosity, what did you do to prevent moisture buildup between the container and insulation?
No one answers this. 2" deep spray foam seems to help.
It's EPS with aluminium jointing tape. Water doesn't penetrate through It. It's in my shipping container house and has been for over ten years
@@Aussiehomestead1965 Theloremistress meant the space between the insulation an the container.
Idk what climate you live in, but that's a typical mold trap for regions with seasonal temperature and moisture changes.
Wouldn't insulating from inside end up in condensation ????
Is the container located in some kind of community co-space?
Shop is looking good :)
Yeah, I saw another one of his videos where there are like 2 levels of 4 containers each in a side lot next to a warehouse or something. Guessing the property owner rents them out. I think he said it was much smaller than his old shop but also *much* closer to home
@@bungle555 So cool!
You, my friend, are a hard working genius. I know that it was hard work, but the outcome is great. You should be very proud of yourself youngman. I have subscribed and continue to watch your progress.
Firstly, Toby is a Woby! Secondly, I loved this video and when you got electrocuted - hope you keep adding those funny elements and the cool editing
Should have used spray foam or at least cut/formed foam glued to the metal sides - you will get issues with condensation with the air-gap behind the insulation and with no tape on your drywall seams you will get some cracking. Nice neat little shop though.
Tought the same, pu-foam + rockwoll
How are you going to deal with condensation & thermal bridging?
I think thats what the fan is for, as long as you keep air moving through there should be alright. Better down the road would be an AC and maybe small dehumidifier.
@@pepecorleone9021 Condensation forms easy with the metal, humidity and dewpoint. Unless he put some layer not shown in the video to prevent that. That's what I'm asking. Common pros use close cell spray form to get rid of any gaps and seals container so no water buildup, but that's expensive. Water build up between the metal and his insulation is a major problem cause cannot see it - mold.
@@kenkoh1724 Ur 100% right, I live in Long Beach CA constant battle with mold in a home I own that was built in 1912 but remodeled several times over. Condensation forms with metal very easy, but i think in a workshop like this its not gonna be that big a deal. Throw a pre filter on the fan I use the 25 x 25 maybe have a small fire, micro fireplace u can keep that area pretty dry.
@@kenkoh1724 I agree man, im not saying mold will not be a future problem. Some people dont future proof they just rebuild over and over, I dont agree with this build style, better to do it as you say and address all potential condensation issues. Thats one of the biggest challenges to overcome building with these containers.
I work with ventilation and as long as you have air moving inside the house (most popular being a fan blowing air down from the roof space) the house stays dry. No experiences with container homes whatsoever though.
Amazing work! Came out super clean :)
It would have been cleaner, if he hid the electrical wiring behind the drywall
@@silversaatvali2087 I actually think it looks cooler with it showing
Im about to do this project. HOWEVER, I am contemplating spray foam, WHCIH WILL seal in the entire cavity. PLAN was to caulk steel 2x3s against inside corrugated wall. so the foam thickness would range inside from 3" to 2.5". THEN use plywood for sheeting rather then drywall, (drywall sucks). I would also use 1/2" tubing to run 14/2 though to boxes. SECOND part is to strap outside walls and spray foam as well, making foam thickness even at approx, 5". Then use board and batten ext siding. THIS IDEA, allows for max inside space..THOUGHTS?
That's really sick!! Love the way it looks in the end and how clean!!! Is there a reason for not having the electricity implemented behind the drywall?
For hanging drywall on ceiling alone..for cheap...make a deadman...out of 2x4s...in a T configuration....helps loads
Rudy Grissom good thing I’m strong af
@@WobyDesign hence the use of a deadman, with it you don't need strength. It's like an having an extra set of arms holding up the board. I suggest a 2'x2' square of 1/2" plywood, screwed onto end of 2x4x8' (1/4" round over top edge, router)
Doug Ward Thor doesn’t need a deadman, neither do I
@@WobyDesign your arms will thank you, trust me. Thor or not, LoL
And you are supposed to use drywall tape. Can we get an update of all the cracks?
WHAT IS NAME OF LAST SONG?? Cannot get it out of my head and I need more. PLEASE?!
How/to what did you nail the top 2”x4” board? To the actual corten steel walls? Did the nails penetrate the exterior walls?
Do you leave an 1/4 air gap? Otherwise it negates the radiant barrier effect. LOL awesome editing at 3:10ff
Thanks for the video. Just curious how you dealt with insulating the doors. Thanks.
Hey Brother how do you get the top plate/upper perimeter fixed and to stay before installing vertical pieces
Next time you are building out an empty space like that with nothing in it use a paint sprayer instead of the rollers. Much faster and easier. Since nothing is in there no worries of paint overspray. Also when hanging drywall on ceiling can make dry wall supports out of 2x4's T shape. Slightly longer than needed so you can wedge under drywall sheet.
This One01 yeah, I try to ride my Ferrari to Home Depot and I couldn’t fit the paint sprayer
@@WobyDesign Ever heard of renting borrowing or even buying a chea one from Harbor freight? Even using a compressor with a cheap HVLP harbor freight paint gun can do it. The only excuses are the ones we make. And Ferraris are overrated and are for men with small dicks.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT!!!

I am trying to do the same thing, but I’m trying to turn it into a cafe? Is there a way I can contact you fir questions?
Being an Electrician this made me laugh 7:10 😂
Are you referring to why he didn't put it behind the drywall? Cause that's what I'm wondering....
Same here. I would do it diferently
Mira can you do a video of how and what you mean please?
@@AdrienneS1970 if he was going to be living in the container, hiding the electric would have been my choice as well.
You’re all dense, watch it again haha
Great job!!! I'm exhausted just watching you put the ceiling up!!! Congratulations very successful build. Winners never quit. Great Video
Really cool now put it on a truck and road trip with a workshop
What was the difference of the temperature after insulating?
I wanna know too, thanks
Love youre videos! Keep up the great work! I was cracking up when you "zapped" yourself :)
2:11 *Comment about not putting up drywall*
Woby: Imma put up some drywall
I expected the walls to be covered with broken skateboards!
Great job
Container looks good. Any reason why you didn't go with plywood over the drywall? The plywood would allow for installation of stuff anywhere vs only on the studs. The electrical shock was funny. 👍
Awesome build out. But I noticed you kept the original floors.
Not sure if you knew but those floors are treated with pesticides and long term exposure can poison you. Just a heads up.
I've been sitting on my ass for years because I "didn't have the tools or the space." Now I realize that I had those things but I didnt have the balls. I watched 5 of your videos today and then I stopped and started drawing furniture. Thank You. Thank You.Thank You.Thank You. I'll send you some pics later. Keep doing awesome and sharing. Even old guys are watching. Thanks
Good luck brother. Hold onto that spark.
Been 7 months, stay inspired!
Apply a little more foot pressure the the pedal at the back of the shoe on that bender when youre trying to bend pipe. Youll get rid of those ripples that are in the bends.
Just curious: Why not run the wires before doing the drywall?
That's what I was wondering. Faster? Cheaper?
I am carpenter and can confirm that before placing drywall in home inspector must come and verify everything is done properly gas water electricity etc.
@@ryanmccue8180 but since this isn't going to be a residence, perhaps they don't need to?
hind-sight's 20/20 boys, seems like he just sent it and hoped for the best - cheers! (I was taught to spraypaint the outside of the drywall where all the wires and plumbing is before I start running screws)
@Charley Fig commiefornia land of the permit
Should it the insolation aluminum be on the outside to give a better deflection, but the job looks great
ya acomo ya puso tablaroca y el baño? y la instalacion electrica creo que no lo penso muy bien
Eh, I'd prefer if it was just made from broken skateboards.
See you didn’t use joint tape between drywall. You’ll develop cracks as the walls expand contract from heat and cooling. That said, nice work there.
Vince Leon Guerrero I did, you just didn’t pay attention.

This is just so freaking amazing to watch !!! I'm impressed that your shop is going to fit into this space. Can't wait to see more (and maybe feature some donuts haha)
In any case, Toby is a Woby
Why not build the electric connections within the insulation?
7:20 Awesome how proud and happy you look!!! That's a moment to remember and take forward to your next project.
Dog! You’re my new favorite subscription! You’re very inspiring, the music you use is dope too! I was having a panic attack when you were hanging the drywall on the ceiling lol! Been there done that! Toby is a Woby!!! Peace!
i thought it was going to drop on his head when he was walking to the next side
Great video and project - the only downside is why didn't you tape up the plasterboard joints prior to using the jointing compound ?
ua-cam.com/video/uycI2QBk5K0/v-deo.html
Umm, some questions:-
Why didn’t you put heat reflective tape or foil on to the metal of the containers where the joists are to increase thermal insulation? Should you have put the tape on the joints before you mudded them? Why didn’t you put the wires in under the plaster? You didn’t do anything to the doors, why not? Are you going to seal the floor or cover it to increase the thermal ability of the space?
🤷🏻♂️
The only thing I would have done differently was recessed those lights in the ceiling and laid the electrical while framing. I’d probably use a window AC unit too because I’m boogie like that. Great work though!!!
Whats the name of the insulation boards you use ?
0:35 & 0:37, Probably not the greatest spot to stand.
Don't you need a vapor barrier between the insulation and the dry wall since you leave pockets of air between the insulation panels and the corrugated steel wall?
Gero Lindenberg insulation already got the vapor barrier with the metal layer but was compromise since it was stuck between studs. should be directly on the container wall and tape then you had wood strapping 1x3. Would also use at least mold resistant drywall or concrete sheets to avoid mold at any cost. the air supply with a cheap fan isnt great for rain or real air exchange in dust environnement. still a great build it
s pretty cool!
I like it but why do the wiring outside the wall?
My OCD kicked in when he didn't stagger his drywall joints....
I cringed when I heard that impact kick in when he was driving his screws. I can almost guarantee that it’s gonna blister within a year
Me too
You should make the floor out of, yes, you guessed it, broken skateboards. Seriously, do it. The entire floor.
Notice you didn’t tape. What did you use to spackle to prevent you from taping ?
ua-cam.com/video/uycI2QBk5K0/v-deo.html
Great job ...that is by far the easiest way to insulate and dry wall the container. Thankyou Thank you...you did an awesome job.... you made it easy. What kind of tool was used to cut the metal to add the fan. I prefer using that then welding
Ok. Listen. Ben... why is @missanniejkim popping up in all your posts. She was all over your last two vids... now she’s all over this one... I’m feeling a bit jealous. Am I going to have to let some folks know about us... I thought we had something special.
Ok. Serious. If you got this far. Love your shit. I told you on insta you’re one of the most underrated people on YT in this space... it’s 100% true and people are finally starting to get it.
Love it. Please keep it up!
I bet you could cool that completely well with a portable ac.
As a man who's entire construction career can be described as 2:58 - 3:30 I found this video entertaining. Good job man.
Great job! But you should have run the electrical conduits before insulation to hide them. All you would then have exposed are the outlets. Just my 2 cents worth.
He was trying too hard to look cool and forgot.
Don't need exposed outlets either using 1900 boxes and mudrings
almost better to run bx over the wall because of how shitty it would be to fish/add anything. My grandad had conduit running over his workshop walls and I think that was the best. This obsession with 'finished' spaces these days is a bore to me.
i was thinking the same thing
Love the build and your style, very good job even though drywall is not your thing, yet :-)
I would have definitely chosen drywall as well, but I would have installed it atop a layer of OSB (1/2" instead of 3/4" in your particular case), so that you get a very strong support to screw anything anywhere on the walls later on, especially in a workshop! I really don't understand why it's not more common practice in the US to use OSB under drywall. It's so much better than drywall alone! Anyway, looking forward for the next one!
Because we know how to screw into studs. 😂
@@DeMeonnaise Really??
I think you often go to great lengths to do things the hardest way possible. Not wrong, just hard. I respect that. Subscribed.

What a great way to build a workshop that can travel with you.
Another great build brotha! "TOBY IS A WOBY" Keeping dreams alive and inspiring others! AWESOME
That is Very cool. Nice work. Installing that drywall overhead alone.....wow beast mode lol.
use a t-shaped timber support to hold most of the weight while you put the screws in
Please make a vid on how to make those palace logos from recycled skateboards!
This project brought to you by: Donuts. Lots and lots of donuts.
Keith, I'm missing your projects Mate
Work smart not harder, you should have used a panel lifter from Home Depot.
Props on doing the ceiling drywall yourself. That shit is a bitch
No vent luvers on that fan?
Nice. Next build though put your drywall on the ceiling first then butt the walls up underneath it leaving the space lower also making it easier to mud and sand it. But you've probably already figured it out after you did that.
La cagó con el alambrado por fuera. Pero le sirvió de experiencia. Lo otro es que el drywall se pone de arriba para abajo.
crazy question but when you open the big door doesnt all the heat escape? alos the fan is a nice touch. maybe make it a closing window in colder times
Small but very nice 👌

Looks good! The production values of your video was really high, which I appreciate. Keep up the good work!
Waiting for this Channel to blowup 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I come from the future ... in less than a year you change everything
Yes, I am also from there. And I switched to this video after watching how he redid everything in his workshop :Ъ
After the installation of the insulation how is the temperature 🌡️🤒 during summer 🌞⛱️?
4 out of six stars.. one for each of the surfaces you insulated. It's a metal box, don't forget about thermal bridging.
Just gonna have that one tiny little window in the rear?
Hello, I would like to know what materials I use for insulation?
There must be a risk that getting a good constant supply of boards is going to difficult .I doubt you can more than a few hundred max every couple of months ????
how thick is one wall with all the stuff u did... pls answer its important for my plan tysm😍❤ turned out clean btw. congrats
But I loved the old workshop 😩
Dude, first of all, I'm looking to buy and insulate a 20' container for my clothing business that has taken over my house. Secondly, ( I'm a MEXICAN AMERICAN) your in EAST LA !!!! Walk out to the curb and yell for one or two homies that have done drywall to do that roof. You almost killed yourself. $20 and everyone is happy .... Your getting quality work done, their making a little cash and your not dead. Just an idea
lol the insulation went in backwards.
yeah the heat mirror side supposed to go the other way around, except if you want to seal it, cos then its the right way, but he didnt do that so...
Viewers unfamiliar with containers may not know you can buy the little 20' containers in the MUCH more useful 9'6" tall High Cube format. If you can afford it get a "one trip" grade container or at least "cargo ready" as the "WWT" grade commonly available are condemned as unfit for maritime service which in practice means damage, leaks and especially leaking door gaskets (though you can replace the door gaskets for a few hundred bucks if moisture control matters).
I really liked your project! Really much!
Fyi, you don't need a GFI receptacle for every outlet. You only need one GFI per circuit. That's what the two other screws are for, the LOAD side of your circuit.
Did you waterproof it before you started ? Thats my biggest concern. I have crazy dollar clothing.
Respects, how'd you manage to get an electrical service into a shipping container my guy?
Is it hard to get a permit to turn one these containers Into an office or tiny house in Greater Los Angeles ??
Good work sir! Gained a subscriber!
l am from Switzerland 🇨🇭and work in architecture. the container is not ventilated, so moisture will occure between outside wall and the non mineralic insulatiom you used.
l worrked on a similar project, but we did the house from the inside working to the outside and used the corrugated cointamer Steel merely for Facade and aesthetical reasona
Respect, Dude 😍
Greatings from Germany .
plywood is better for shops drywall is for living spaces, a guy said it on the instagram, he was right.
Bro you win the internet today
Thing is, rather than buy a container and have it shipped for 10 to 15 thousand, you can make your own container style by shopping framing material and corrugated metal or plastic sheets for delivery from local building supply store and build your own. This is also less work, adjust the size a bit so as not to lose space to insulation, and it is much more serviceable in the long term. Replace panels, cut or alter in future as you like...all for a fraction of the price and trouble. - just sayin' :)
I've been building a house 2 years, only now have a realised I could have had a shipping container setup all this time...
