- In this short vlog, I'm sharing in update about my relationship and why it's time to break up. There's no easy way to do it, but it's for the best. Even though the romantic relationship may be over, I'm glad that we will stay friends.

Very mature Quincy. As a clinical therapist, the couples therapy I do with gay men can often be a challenge around this very issue. Mainly, it is an issue of communication.. I feel too often that people don't listen to understand, but rather listen to respond. People evolve and differences arise that make compatibility an issue. It sounds like you two tried to put in the work to find a resolution, but it doesn't always lead to a desired result for both partners. That you two came to a mutual understanding and desire to still be in each other's lives is great. I wish the best for both of you in whatever happens moving forward and appreciate the vulnerability and honesty in sharing a very private part of your life.
Its so emotionally mature that you are able to accept and articulate yourself and your feelings so well. Super proud of you!

Wishing you and Wilson all the best, Quincy. I feel as though you foreshadowed this in your last video. When you said you wanted to visit Brazil more frequently and liking to experience the new, that definitely hinted this video or at least some form of change.
I am not surprised by this news. However, I could tell by their body language, there were problems within their relationship. The gay lifestyle is very difficult because many young attractive gay men aren't capable of lasting in a monogamous relationship. Both these young men are in their twenties and are most likely still experiencing new and different things in life. I came across a British gay series by accident over the weekend on Amazon Prime, Cucumber. It was rather depressing to watch older gay middle aged men acting immature and focusing on hooking up with young hot attractive gay men and they themselves weren't attractive. Hollywood has been criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of gay characters as over-sexed, immature, sleazy and shallow. I truly wish both these young men well and it seems, they both know what's best for them.

This is a surprise..thank goodness you still live together remaining as friends and roommates. It will be excruciating if one left and never seen again. Jealousy, mind games, being possessive, distrust..factors that make breakeup excruciating..my experience. Thanks for your outlook, example and advice I will follow and keep in mind in the future. Am enjoying being single enjoying the company of friends. It's just an excruciating breakup makes me feel afraid of having another relationship. It makes me feel niot going beyond.i now set a boundary.

I am a demisexual, the build up to romance is a slow paced process because once I develop romantic feelings they tend to last and keep lasting, it’s like there’s no turning back.
I’ve been in only one romantic relationship and it lasted eight and a half years and even then I was very much in-love with my partner.
When we met i sensed that he was accustomed to men making themselves available to him. Tho I found him attractive to him I needed to develop emotions to even consider being romantic with him.
I explained to him that I’d like to be his friend, he was very attracted to me and because I wasn’t willing to jump into bed with him I think he took it as a challenge. We took things slowly and he started to fall in-love with me, he showed a lot of patience as he understood the type of person I am, after several months we became an exclusive and committed couple, we moved in together and it was pure bliss.
Fast forward, his feelings for me started to change, he was looking for something new, something different, something I didn’t have.
In retrospect he grew bored with ‘married life’ and wanted to be a bachelor again. He was all I knew and I held onto him for dear life but I started to realize that he was already gone, I suspected someone was already in the picture and my fears we confirmed when I saw him and his friend in the city one day.
So I told him he was free. I was still in-love with him and he was developing feelings for someone else so sharing a home became really awkward. The whole feel of the place changed and I didn’t want to be there anymore so I told him I was leaving.
I told him that I wanted us to be friends but we needed to be apart or at least I did not want to be a spectator in his new romance, he told me he could never be just friends with me. I had no idea what that meant and I didn’t really care I was thinking about saving me and my peace of mind.
I moved into my new place, I didn’t call him and he didn’t call me either. Yes, break ups are hard and mine was devastating. I guess we had too much history as a romantic couple that just being platonic friends didn’t seem necessary so we made a clean break from each other.
There hasn’t been any romance in my life since then as I fear the pain of losing again, also I don’t meet guys that get that I don’t fall quickly and like to take things slow, real slow so my feelings can develop. What they don’t understand is what I am offering is a lifetime because I know my feelings, my affections can and will endure.
Hello Quincy, I know breaking up is tough but I'm glad to hear you guys have remained friends. I had a similar situation 20 years ago with my ex and fast forward 20 years and we're still the best of friends. I hope you and Wilton can remain close as well. Now this is growth! I’m still friends with my first serious long term relationship and I’m genuinely happy when he’s happy. At the end of the day, that’s really what relationships are about. Finding happiness together and hoping to cultivate that for as long as possible but also it’s ok to know we evolve as people, we change and sometimes we grow apart. Both of you probably need counseling because obviously something connected you together and it certainly wasn't just a honeymoon phase. Quincy, being an older black gay man, I have come to the realization that relationships in the gay community are like a crap shoot... sometimes you hit; most times, you don't. That's just my opinion after 4 unsuccessful tries. The longest one lasting 12yrs. Being amicable is great but that eluded me as well. Good luck in all you do. On a positive note, your eye for capturing the perfect shot is second to none.

The reason why they don't work is because people are not always honest about what they want. You can't be selfish. Opposites don't attract. You have to be compatible in ALL AREAS. You can't rush either. You know you both are strong when you both listen and compromise ... and you don't change up on your boo when it gets HOTTER outside...
