I really appreciate your dedication and passion. I'm trying to learn ASL and your videos have really helped. I can have a proper conversation with my deaf friend now. Thank you ❤
I've been following your content for about a year or two, and I find your channel more enjoyable. I've noticed that watching your conversations, especially in this interview, is a lot more fun personally when you sign what you're speaking. As a beginner in ASL, it helps us pick up on other words in a conversation (faster too). I love your teaching method, especially when you share tricks on how to remember the signs for specific words.
*THANK YOU* for all of these professional, dedicated, and informative videos you produce! I am new to ASL via your channel, and have been watching, and practicing everyday. Your teaching style is light, fun, and SO approachable; you have given me a true-gift! 🤟🎉
Thanks for your video. I was an educational interpreter for 23 yrs. I've been retired since 2006 and just started teaching at a community college in my town. I saw slang I've forgotten and didn't know, thanks
That was really fun! Thank you. Semi-related: Would you be willing to do a video on terms of endearment (honey, sweetie, baby, etc.)? I realize that most people come up their own personal individual ones, but like in English, surely there are some more universal ones?
This was a very good lesson. I enjoyed it. I don't watch many of your videos because they're too hard to follow the captions for the context of the signs. I wish you signed throughout your videos. I'm latened Deaf and often watch ASL videos to see what new things I can learn. I feel that the term "ASL idioms" is more commonly used and accepted. "Slang" gives the impression that the words/phrases are nonstandard/substandard when they are an equally valid part of ASL. Slang really means informal, less accepted, and perhaps even restricted to certain groups of people. I'd use the term "idioms" going forward.
Meredith, you should have that girl who started the deaf school in Uganda (I don’t remember her name) come back and do a comparison of slang signs in ASL and USL. That would be really interesting to see!
Ive only been for a few days practicing. I heard you are supposed to do eye contact...😅But how will you read signs if you doneye contact? And what about ASD or a diagnosis where its extremely difficult to create eye contact. Can these people still sign? Im struggling with that area but again im very VERY fresh.
I have a really important question I hope you'll answer!!! how many signs do you think I should know before starting to get involved with deaf people? I've learned about 500 signs (thanks to you) but how many should I know before getting involve? Thank you for your videos!!
As much as I'm enjoying this video I have two issues, and Im hearing btw, A. SimCom, bad bad bad, should never do that, one language suffers when you do that. B. Hearing person teaching ASL, this channel should really be done by someone deaf. BUT other than that. I enjoy this!
Im the same way. During the video I felt so good but then could never pick up a sign afterwards. I just kept watching a couple videos a day and going over the alphabet and it’s been almost a year and I’m finally starting to recognize words and phrases. Just keep at it. They’ll eventually stick.
There is a lot of inaccurate things being said. There is also the odd practice if mouth movements beginning to English in your discourse. This doesn't belong in ASL material. You have a lot of knowledge, but you are also doing harm, because you are misrepresenting a lot of the material.
As an Italian Deaf signer - please fix the erroneous sign of Italy as a woman's private part, this is so embarrassing and it's spreading mistakes to other innocent signers. Correct sign have the "skinny" C handship thumb and index finger kept apart from top to the bottom when making the shape of the Italia/Italy country. Thank you for your cooperation and respecting Italian sign language.

Great video, as always. I'd love to see signs for sorrow/death, as in someone dying. It would be helpful. Thanks for all of yur content.
Put your 5 hands with one facing up and one facing down, then flip them opposite.

Yeah, I am very concerned about how some signs are used inaccurately. Very harmful, which breaks my heart.
Needs to get more examples not just one example for each slang.
