“Keep your guard up, but not so up that you don’t let people in.” Mentioned repeatedly throughout our conversation, the wisdom of Deval Patrick’s grandfather has made a huge difference in his life. Of limited means and limitless hope, his experience sheds light on the profound significance of maintaining marvelous relationships and being true to oneself no matter the circumstance. Excellent job TBE!! Alphonse McCullough brought me here - The Capstone Group and The Black Experience are actually partners - we collaborate every summer for the MBSYEP Program. TBE kids ALWAYS shine with their creative podcasts!
Loved hearing about being brought up in the south side of Chicago and the breakdown of how alien white people were to black people..you only really see life through the lenses given to you growing up. More exposure means a better understanding of just how much hate there is in this world. What we do with the feelings brought after this exposure is where the opportunity for community empowerment is.
Beautifully said. Exposure and what we then do with it is indeed key. We’re so glad you enjoyed hearing his story. Thank you for joining us and sharing your experience!
