I have a theory that the reason why Kanto got so much attention during Gen7 was because of the 20th anniversary which fell in 2016 and the 25th anniversary which fell in 2021. Between them was the so-called "Jubilee years" which celebrated Pokemon's quarter journey.
What are you talking about, they always focus on Kanto (Pokemon X and Y Megas, Pokemon Lets go games, Pokemon GO, Pokemon Unite, regional Pokemon, ...)

The explanation for the pronunciation of Lusamine and Lillee’s was hilarious.
The 3DS era is where the cracks start to show but the tape and glue are still holding it together. X and Y lacked a lot of character and didn't experiment much with its new fairy typing and had a lack of end game content. ORAS was mostly great except no Battle Frontier. The ability to make your own gyms was fantastic and should have come back. Sun and Moon are fantastic imo. I think they have a lot of talking segments but I appreciate all the things they tried, new boss ideas, z moves being way more balanced than megas, and the ultra beasts. USUM is probably the worst title because it barely changes the base game and the post game is too much fan service, although the ultra beast locations are amazing. Overall this era is one I enjoyed playing and the last ones I truly can pick up and play at anytime. After this the franchise is dead to me.
USUM had so much potential, it sucks so bad how they ended up.

Glad im not the only who liked gen 7 even if they didnt make a proper sequel with the ultra games.
Gen 6-7 were hella rushed. Gen 5 lasted only 2 years 2011-2012 then came 2013 which outshined gen 5 at the time (XY were first 3D games) and then We never got the XY2 sequels bc they scrapped it for Gen 7. Literally gens 6-7 were rushed hella bad and gen 5 had no time for people to get to know it since it went by quick.
Honestly USUM gets so much hate for doing exactly what the previous upper versions, even Black 2 White 2 have done.
idc that B2W2 had a different story it was the most irrelevant one in the franchise.
Playing X for the first time back in 2013 was a magical experience for me. I’ll be the first to admit we needed Z, but i still have lots of nostalgia for the jump to 3D and the hype around the worldwide release.
ORAS got rid of things XY did right, like the trainer customization, but the things it add like the Dexnav and secret bases make up for it. It expanded the world of Hoenn and redesigned it for the modern era. Absolutely the most underrated Pokémon games.
Sun and moon were an ambitious experiment which I think could have created something special, but instead we got the laziest pile of manure I’ve ever seen in usum

The gen 3 remakes really were quite good. If they had trainer look customization from x & y, pokemon following from the gen 2 remakes, and the battle frontier from Emerald, they might have been the best pokemon games period. As is they're only a step behind the series high points from platinum through b2/w2. Well worth playing, especially while the online features are still up.
So happy for the XY appreciation. I can't refute its biggest issues, but if what you like in a Pokémon game is cool places, great tunes, and little touches, it's hard to beat.
There's a really cool detail in X and Y's battle backgrounds that you haven't mentioned, but some of them actually have destructible objects! It's only a very select few backgrounds, but if you use a wide range move like Surf, you can see a rock crumble or a tree fall over. I wish this was elaborated on more, since it's only in 2 or 3 specific backgrounds I can think of.
ORAS are probably the last good games we got and after this, everything just started rolling downhill. XY was first misstep and once SM released, they keep falling down ever since. My personal highlights from last years are LG and Legends. I know Legends isn't technical masterpiece but i just can't be mad at them somehow
Oh, I liked Lillie's story, and yeah I hate how the player character is literally just a cardboard box.

Personally, I enjoyed ultra sun and moon more than the original. The only thing I didn’t like was the removal of Tapu Koko talking at the end, also correction Hau is not the champion, he is the challenger, you are the champion. It’s like in kanto it’s a reversal of roles you are “Green” this time fighting Red.

I honestly loved Sun/Moon. My biggest 2 complains about the game are pretty much the same complains i have with most of the franchise: its very EASY, and very SIMPLE to add a "hard mode" or at least a way to prevent the game to being easily cheesable. There are hard moments sure, but if you're a long time pokemon player you can probably get overpowered very easily.
Then the battle tower (or whatever it was called) is just not as good as the PWC. Nothing will ever beat the PWC. Its kinda lame to not have this kind of feature anymore.
Graphically it pushed the 3ds to its limits. Could've done things like.. NOT animating trainers in battles? Double battles performed really poorly.
For me, most pokemon games since B/W feel a bit lackluster in content/difficulty and i think its because they keep designing for kids. It honestly feels like it only needs a small bit of work to make it much much better for other audiences. Level scaling is a quick solution that doesnt even require work (battle tower already has level scaling to 50). Oldschool "puzzles" too.
Regarding S/V, the open world didnt work for me. I dont think i like having THAT MUCH VARIETY from the start. I think i lose a lot of the fun if i can pretty much build a "balanced" team however i like from the first hour of the game. Total lack of variety (like red, gold) is awful too, and a huge open world is the extreme opposite that, for me, didnt work. You barely feel progression.
Hell ya time to binge. I also kinda miss the days where we’d just complain about cutscenes.

I also preordered ORAS going to pick it up on Nov 21 it was also my birthday and I played it the whole day and that was the most fun I’ve had on a Pokemon game

Sun moon also got rid of the formats I enjoyed playing. Triples was awesome, most mons can be fit on a triples team. In doubles bring four, it’s just hey let’s see the same shit every game. Triples was always someone’s full team doing full team shit!

I managed to take out the ultra necrozma by having my Skarmory have toxic and let the rest of my team slowly die with only my Lopunny left standing to finish it with a quick attack.

Really did like x & y. Like, yeah, there's so much obvious cut or unfinished content, and you can definitely feel the downward trend from the high point of platinum through b2w2, but it was still good, and some features even surpassed its predecessors. I still miss the pss on par with the battle frontier, seeing my 3ds friends come online, being able to send them a 'nice' or an o-power or a trade or battle request without having to jump through any extra hoops felt more like being on a pokemon adventure together than even scarviol's co-op multiplayer.

I don't have a problem with the story switch up because USUM's story is more fun while SM story is more deep and interesting
I play SM for the story and then I play USUM for the fun, it was the last pokemon game where every Pokemon was on the table
that makes it awesome for Randomizers and such!
Gen 7 also had the best gimmick, it was just so fun to use Zmoves

Fell in love with X & Y. Played through them twice and have hundreds of hours in Kalos. Bought the Hoeen remakes and i also enjoyed it just fine and even thought it was somewhat of an upgrade from XY.
Then i bought and played Moon on day 1, and got absolutely bored and tired of it. The hand holding would literally put me to sleep holding my 3DS, i hated those games. Couldn't force myself to beat the game until a year later and got ultra Sun soon after, and had a better time with it. I still hate gen 7 and that was the beginning of the end for me.
I used to hate Gen 7, but now i just wish Pokemon was at least that competent again. It's gotten worse and worse since then. I have a full pokedex all the way up to Gen 7. But it ends with Zeraora. I refuse to play the switch games that are just upscaled 3ds games

that section didn't include every villain from previous games. where was es cade? nascour? from colosseum? where was aldes and greevil from xd? they were not included. it is like Lamefreak has a huge problem with orre region fans, of whom i am.
You know what I recently noticed about the 3DS games (having not played any of them)? They got rid of mid-battle comments. Trainers only talk before and after the battle, but never during it. Nothing when they send out their last Pokemon. Nothing when you hit them for the first time. I mean, it's not a deal-breaker and it got pretty annoying at times (especially the "first hit" one), but its absence is still noticable. At least the Switch games brought it back.
I'm pretty sure only important characters had mid-character dialogue (I think started in Platinum).
@@zjzr08 Yes, only important characters did, but in the 3DS games, nobody does. I said "trainers" instead of "important trainers" because I assumed everyone would get what I mean (and I assume you did too and are just correcting a minor, inconsequential mistake).
@@robertlupa8273 Yeah, I did -- I guess it won't work in the Gen 6 games as the trainers are using just their "face sprites" for introduction, but I agree Gen 7 should have reaction animations as the trainer model is in the battle.

Generation 6 would be the best in the 3D handheld era in Pokémon. More could have been done like with Pokémon Z, and a Pokémon Emerald remake.

you mention the national dex but you fail at realizing that bdsp brought back the national dex and bdsp have basically all pokemons gens 1-4. with all the legenderies included and you have to find shards to fight them so you need to work for it. yet are part of the bdsp hate wagon with no reasnoble explenation whatsoever

I really like gen 7 but the fact that they did the ultra games instead of doing a black amd white 2 style sequel to flesh out the region will forever taint the gen. You basicly just have to pick which version on the gen 7 games you like more and pretend the other doesnt exist. It was such a waste of potential especially with how many fun characters were in this game that we could have seen grow in a sequel much like we see characters like cheren and biannca in black and white 2.

man u just made me realize like how good th legendaries were up to gen 5. they felt super epic in unova but i dont get that same vibe from gen 6 onward legendaries they feel super weak and not special at all besides like necrozma and eternatus kinda has it i suppose
I don't understand why they'd give the newer games so much handholding. The success of the series was entirely founded on the precise levels of freedom and difficulty that the original games had. What were they trying to repair when nothing was broken?

no matter how bad Pokémon gets at least we will have Alpha Sapphire and omega ruby and platinum and soul silver n heart gold and B&W 1 n 2 for ever hell even x n y and sun n moon 1 and 2 are good enough to at least enjoy on occasion. i personally cant go back to gen 3 or b4 bc th phys/spec split but fire red n leaf green th only ones ill still make exception 4 v rarely tho
I think Sun and Moon will forever irk me the most because they kicked off the two biggest issues i have with modern pokemon gameplaywise: Horrible and bland World/Route design and a painfully slow start into the Game
