Hi James,I have been looking through some of your reviews. Do you have a recommendation for a starter bag? I made the mistake of buying a $200 bag off Amazon and it has been ruining my clothes and falling apart after a year of use. I was looking at the satchel and page mail bag, but is there something you recommend over that around the same price point? Thanks! Do you ever sell your old bags after reviews?

Hi James, I have a question about the size of this bag. Is it too big for a 5'4" frame? I wouldn't always be carrying my laptop, and am looking for an EDC that's pretty classic.

Mandalei Quilts with Mandy Leins maybe a messenger bag would be better?

NIce bag, would that be veg tan or chrome, I'm over here in england and have started making myself, a surprise passion, but to be honest the bankers are winning with the economy, wouldn't mind so much if they bought one.
I think you do a great job in reviewing.

This bag is made with a chrome tanned leather that has been fat liquored and therefore has a lot of "pull up" present. Stickman uses chrome tanned leather on almost all his pieces. Thank you for the compliment.

Is Fat Liquoring a machine process or can it be done by hand, I have made a bag that is getting good hits on etsy but is rather high end on pricing due to being hand sewn and veg tan, have been thinking maybe I could find a lower priced leather without loss of durability. I love the mailbag leather look, a bit vintage and timeless.

Paul Lawary Yes Paul, the fats, waxes and greases are hot stuffed into the leather in large vats. The hides are tumbled with different components such as tallow, under heat and pressure until the fats have been infused into the hide. This process gives the leather a nicer feel, texture and water resistance and also produces an effect called Pull Up which is a visible indicator of the process in which it is possible to see the oils move through the leather as you bend or pull up on the leather. Sadly you can not put these fats and waxes into regular chrome tanned leather by hand, you need heavy equipment to accomplish the job. What is the name of your Etsy store?

HI James wonder if I could trouble you for a leather recommendation for a bag. I've made a leather rucksack in veg tan, which is not the cheap option, as you know, I would like to make more using a leather that would keep the bags integrity while reducing some of the cost.
I have seen enough of your reviews to know that you have an excellent appreciation of leathers and their suitable applications. can you help? I love making these things so much and would like to be able to sell at a reduced price.
      Here's the bag...

+Paul Lawary Lets see Paul, there a lot of tanneries in the UK. I don't know much about them, but I do know that most of the will make a verity of "Oil Tanned" leathers that should be less expensive than traditional vegetable tanned leathers yet have a nice fatty feel and beautiful surface. I wish I could recommend one to you but I'm unfamiliar with your British tanneries.

I challenge these makers to make this quality type bag in the $200 range that way some people would be able to buy it $450 and up is just crazy

Thes types of goods are as expensive as they are, due to the amount of materials, labor, care and skill put into them. The leather it'self is extremely expensive. The only way to make a bag for 200$ or less would be to have it made in a factory using lesser materials, by a non-skilled employee, making less than a living wage.

I challenge you to make any sense ya dip shit You realize the leather itself for that bag is $350? You make zero sense and sound like you’re upset at your plight in life. If you want nicer things you’re going to have to pay for it. If you want crap then go to Walmart or tj max and shop away

well I guess I'm not buying this one either it's $450 oh well guess I'm going to go to TJ Maxx and see what they have at T.J.Maxx lots of gorgeous beautiful leather items at TJ Maxx and mostly on sale less than the prices then you would find them in the department store TJ Maxx has great items maybe I'll try and take a look and see if they have something wonderful there because obviously the makers are not making anything in the 1 to $200 range like most of us Americans are only able to spend

    • @Heirphoto

These are USA made in a one man shop by hand by a man who is just trying to earn a living wage. A TJ Maxx bag is likely made in China assembly line style at a fraction of the cost paying the workers a fraction of the wage. Odd thing is, once the Chinese made products are marked up to their USA selling prices, the sweat shop owner and TJ Maxx will both make a higher profit than the man who spent days making his here in the USA. BTW, I can't afford the $450 bag either but understand its value.

Seriously dude? You sound like a whiney little baby because you find that a handmade high quality bag is too expensive for you? You’re an absolute idiot!
