4:00 Slog2 in 8bit isn’t meant to be color graded. It’s meant to capture the widest amount of DR and then directly transformed to a display gamma in post. It’s already processed by the image processor in the camera using the parameters set in the PP settings. Same goes for the slog3 Slog3 just gives you the latitude to do some adjustment because of those extra 2bits and a more robust codec, which might help you with the post coloring but still has one glaring issue like the slog2. It’s all internally debayered and processed footage. So for best results for color grading shoot slog3 when you know you’re going to adjust things in post and slog2 for a super quick high dynamic range delivery.
10:38 Power Settings Option>Auto Power Off Temp> switch form Standard to High>select High Now you can record as long as you want without it shutting off. I have an A7IV, i did this, no issues recording for a long time. But without doing changing this setting there will be issues. But if one wants to keep the camera cooler, one can use an external battery. I forgot what they are called, but there's a fake battery inserted, that just connects the massive external battery via a cable. People using that have a camera cage, all is mounted to it. I've not tried that. but it's an option.
Hey thanks for the write up! Some of the folks I’ve heard complain about overheating have that setting on. Good catch tho, thanks for pointing it out. The dummy battery or v-mount battery powered via usbc could be good way too as you mentioned. All in all, I think I’ll be fine. Some folks never have issues and others have, it’s probably just chance.
@Lee_Squire So far all long recording I've done was indoors, in room temp. Or outside for short clips. But I've not tried to record for hours in direct sunlight or inside a hot car.
What about the Sony ZV E10 mark ii. I am torn between that and the a6700. I am upgrading from a Lumix g7, I’ve been using it for 6 years now. I got the new dji mic 2 setup and i want to switch to sony because of the hotshoe adapter.
You will want to go with the a6700. Although the sensors are the same the cameras are really built for two different use cases. The a6700 is a more balanced camera. It has a viewfinder and is weather sealed as well. Even though the zve10 is cheaper, I’d go with the a6700. You’ll get more out of it, especially if you do photo and video.
@@Lee_Squire Thank you for your input, I think I will forsure get the a6700. It seems super worth it especially for a few hundred dollars more! Love your content!
I kinda did the same thing - I bought an a7RV and an a6700, and soon wondered why I have both? I can go into crop mode and basically have both on my a7RV, so I sold the a6700. Now, I don’t do much video, rarely any, but it’s nice to know it’s there if I need it!
9:09 I was confused why you want to sell it, but after hearing one one Sd card slot I completely get it. I got my A7IV used from a dealer in mint condition for price of a new A6700. But I agree, the time to sell it is now. But I saw the A6700 has Ai chip, so apparently better autofocus than A7IV, but I don't really have issues with focus on my A7IV, not sure where it actually makes a difference. Same with A7R V it too has an AI chip. So apparently it's gonna track people better, no matter how they move around and turn away and are front to back. But my A7IV actually kind of does that anyway, so not sure what the real difference is. Maybe it's more precise. But for my scenarios I don't need it.
Yeah good point. I like the AI chip as well but I also haven’t used that feature really. I know it can track you and zoom in a bit digitally while you are in the frame etc which is cool. The A7rV would be amazing as well but maybe one day haha.

For a webcam, the FX30 is going to be better because it has a fan. For me, my A6700 is for green screen, and I need the AI chip for when I walk off screen. The A6700 is fine for video because 10-bit SLog3 is just fine for green screen as there is no bright sky. I have both. You don't need dual card slot, you need to buy a dedicated Android phone for to use with Sony Monitor and Control all and throw a 1TB V30 Micro SD card in it to auto-backup to and you're good to go.
Hey Cale, thanks for the comment! That's a unique approach to having a backup! That's awesome. Is that your approach for videos you create here on YT or other platforms?
I would setup the a6700 in a corner somewhere taking time lapse photos during the wedding to get some candid shots. Maybe one shot every minute. You could pick the best from them and include as a bonus. Otherwise it is not a camera for "Pro" work and while I love the a6700 for what I do it was never going to replace a FX-30 which is only a few hundred dollars more on sale.
Totally agree with that sentiment. I wouldn’t feel right trying to rely on it in a professional setting. Timelapse idea sounds fun. Never thought about something like that. I love my fx30 so far though. Definitely a beast. Thanks for the comment! If I had to go back in time, I would have for the fx30 first. And would have ended up with two fx30s with my recording dilemma or the fx3 and one fx30. But hey it’s all good!
as a fellow A7iv shooter, I have to say that Sony majorly screwed up making it as good as it is lol sure, it might not have the AI like the newer models, but imo the AF is still some of the best in the business. I use mine for my channel, professional shoots, weddings, NEVER had missed focus. hope it treats you well!
Hey Terry! Thanks for sharing that. I was blown away with Sony's AF system when I switched from a Canon DSLR several years ago. It's great to hear that it's still an awesome camera for you. I look forward to using it on my next session!
@Lee_Squire my 2 years old daughter dropped it, resulting in broken hinge and broken viewfinder glass, hinge could be replaced in about 50$ in India but to replace viewfinder's glass, the whole assembly need to be replaced and the service centre quoted about 150$.
Ah crap man! I’m sorry to hear that I’m sure you were heartbroken. Our cameras are our babies in a way. 🙏🏽hoping you get booked for some gigs to make up for the expense!
for professional video work, then the FX3 makes total sense :) It's a fantastic camera and you'll unlock all them nice FF lenses :) (or like you can use emount on apsc, but you know, what I mean haha). What's sick about the a6700 tho is that it's the same sensor as the FX30, so the quality is quite insane (considering size and price). But I'm 100% with you you'll love the fx3 man :)
For sure! I have loads of FF lenses as well so I'm excited about that too. And you're right, the same sensor etc is amazing! Sad to sell it but, I've got to!

@@Lee_Squire I see the A7iv does better in low light than the A7rV atleast some reviews claim that. So a7iv isn't a bad choice.
Try out this: Nikon z6-3 prores raw, sound devices , shoeps mic. And, good monitor headphones.

On Amazon. It was the only time I saw the price go that low. It hasn’t since. And it was brand new, shipped and sold by Amazon. Nuts!

A6700 has been my favorite APS-C camer ever. But now that i got the A7Cr it kind of makes it obsolete. The grip on the 6700 is so good though.
I totally get that, yeah I love the trip too!
