I went from an Xpro3 to an M11 and it wasn’t until I totally put down my Xpro3 and dedicated time and reps into using the M11, that I saw myself begin to grow with it. It sounds cliché and people roll their eyes when they hear it, but the experience of shooting with a Leica is like no other. And don’t apologize to anyone for buying and liking shooting with this camera. You decide what tools you want to use to create your art. Also definitely try glass from other manufacturers besides Leica, they can be cheaper but quality is still top-notch. Light Lens Lab is kinda a sleeper for now, but they make some really good glass.
100% agree, also had a xpro 3, but it always felt like it was missing the last 10% or so of the experience, mainly proper manual focusing while using the ovf.
@@ka_sh_iif same, the issue is the lack of focusing aids within the Ovf, also the ovf at its widest only supports 23mm lenses. Honestly wouldn't take much for fuji to give 99% of the same experience, better manual focus aids in the ovf (like a focus confirmation meter) and manual versions of some lenses.
I’ve had the Leica M10-R + Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 for close to 2 months. My only regret was not getting it sooner. Slowing down and enjoying the moment. The irony is it made me appreciate my X100VI for what it is and having fun with that camera as well. In a world where people debate which cameras are better, I’m fortunate to have a couple that compliments each other with different experiences.

I learned to love my Fujifilm X-T5 thanks to you, but have added a Leica MP-240 after experimenting with vintage Canon and Leica rangefinders. Now, I enjoy all of these cameras for specific occasions.
I’ve shot everything. Including years of Fuji. If anyone is upset at your trying different gear, they are not about photography - they are just about gear. When loving photography, there is no room for gear haters. And yes, in addition to owning Nikon, Olympus, and Fuji, i primarily shoot Leica. No apologies necessary….
Welcome to the no way back. I’ve been with Fuji since the original X100, and then the X-Pro1, X-Pro2, and finally the X-Pro3. Leica has always fascinated me, both for the object itself, its history, and the tactile feel. I had never used a Leica in my life until a year ago. Since then, it has become an obsession, and I succumbed to buying a Leica M11 and three Leica lenses. As I said, there’s no turning back. People often compare Leica and Fuji, but they are two entirely different entities with one major common point: the pleasure of making photography
Welcome aboard Faizal.... I sold all of my Fuji gear years ago to give Leica M's a ride and never looked back... I'm hooked... I see yours has a wart on top. May want to get that looked at and removed...
I disagree that rangefinder focusing forces you to slow down compared to autofocus. If anything, I spent more time adjusting an autofocus point. I don't miss AF whatsoever. Then there's zone focusing - the ultimate set and forget. Composition is easier as well as you can visualise outside the frame; even with 28mm on a 0.72x viewfinder. Turn that rear screen off, and take off that Visoflex and be free!!
I bought my M11-p in Osaka in Feb 2024. I am a horrible photographer and 99% of my photos are blurry pictures of my underexposed black cat sitting on my couch. But! Chef's kiss to the *experience* of taking all those photos.
I know right. Watching youngsters on UA-cam struggling to figure out their identity is very sad. One day they’re this, one day they’re that; one day they like this, one day they like that. When they will grow up, they would rather have kept it private. Personally, I’d just be happy to watch a slideshow of the photographs, instead of listening to 10min of this sad theater, rumbling and trying to be cool for clicks. I just miss looking at slides of new/old photographers, with maybe some nice jazz in the background, or simply the sound of the slides skipping through… there’s nothing more private that when you are alone and you are faced with photographs that challenge your mind and make you think and feel…

Once you’re in the Leica system, you’re never going back. Tried going back to Sony and it just didn’t happen. The joy just doesn’t feel the same. So you’re definitely going to end up leaving the Fuji system. Unless you bought the Leica as a business investment than for personal enjoyment then probably you’ll be able to go back to Fuji. The end state is moving from a digital Leica to getting a film Leica. Then you’re just at the end game. I bought a Leica M10 back in January 2023, bought a M3 in November 2023. Sold off both M3 and M10 in January 2024 and bought 1 Leica MP chrome and 1 Leica MP Black Paint. Realize that Leica is all about films than digital in my opinion.
The viewfinder add a cost around 2000 euros to the M11, if your style is use the camera with the visoflex or the back screen why not to use an SL3 ? Nice video !!!!
I literally just rewatched your Leica Q2 video yesterday where you mentioned wanting to get a M11 or 12! So cool to see more photos from your trip to japan, I LOVE that reflection from the flower shop window. Pretty much I just love your style of photography, no matter what you are shooting on ❤
Fuji does have a journey to Leica. Started out with an Xt-30, then X100V, ended up with Xt3, Xt5, Xpro1, Xpro2 and Xpro3, then a Q2, then a Q2M, Now the XT5, Xpro 1, 2 and 3 are all on the shelf, the Qs are sold, and an M11M and M11-P are in the bag. Love Leica for the process and inspiration. Fuji still wonderful and will always remain with me as well. Now my travel and intentional photography is Leica M and my casual, sport, nature or portrait is Fuji. Loving them both.
Mannnn I picked up a Leica M-A last year and have been enjoying it soo much that I've been gassing for the M11-P as well. This doesn't help my case hah. Rangefinder experience really saved photography for me. They're so much fun.
M-A is peak Leica IMO.... and it's what a Leica should be, a fully mechanical desert island camera. I personally believe the M system just doesn't translate well into a digital experience
Lol. Just got back from a family vacation in Europe. My wife has been threatening to buy me a digital M for years but I have resisted. This trip, I actually held one and played with it for a few hours...walked away saying, "Get thee behind me satan!" I'll always love Faizal.
Congrats on the purchase!! I'm a LIFELONG Nikon user for 14 years and intend to buy a Leica too. The lust for the Leica Q2 kinda wore off for me but I was OBESSED with it over the past holidays. Lol STILL have it on my crosshairs buying it this year. But it checks ALL the boxes: resolution, price point, focal length (28mm ALL DAY lol). Basically M10R tech with a Summilux. Works for me. Lol
Cool narrative and great video. I bought an M10 a year and half ago and completely agree with your experience. I noticed you use the monitor a lot. I try to avoid that and to enhance the "analog" experience and increase my presence. And it makes the battery last for days, which is an issue on the M10 and probably not on the M11. Looking forward to see more!
Hey Faizal, if you don't mind me asking, other than "feel" (build quality and aesthetics) and being "restricted" with the manual focus (that forces you to slow down and think to compose), what do you think that the Leica can achieve visually that other cameras (ie the ones by Fujifilm) cannot, especially in street photography?
Once you scratch that itch it’s game over. I had the itch and man oh man. I got the m10 and rented the q2 a few times and I love love love it. I will add it to my line up one day.
I got a used M6 before the prices went over 2K to scratch that itch and love it. IT satisfies my film itch as well. But I do my best to steer clear of the Leica section at my local camera store for fear of a Leica M11 monochrome purchase 😇. Fuji needs to drop Nikon like teasers for the X-Pro4!!!
I am an owner and fan of Sony, but I currently NEED a Leica Q2 Monochrom in my life. Like you, I think the 28mm lens might take some acclimatisation but I have to see what all the fuss is about.
Congrats! Coming from M-3, I was an early adopter of the Fuji X-Pro 1 hoping to have some of that rangefinder feel in a digital body. Loved Fuji so so much but also picked up the M-11 in 2022. I rarely touch any of my other cameras since. I’m interested to see how your love of Leica grows or dwindles, especially since it seems like many of your images are taken using autofocus, at arms length, usually one handed, and using the LCD to compose. Does the rangefinder plus manual focus change your approach to photography? If so, what are the effects? I’d appreciate a vid on this once you’ve really gotten to know your new M-11 P companion. Cheers!
Is rhis just an announcement video? Curious to hear your real thoughts on it. For me, i can't picture going back. I always hear that "slows you down" thing... But what i dig is how it keeps me quick. Nice pics, I agree about the Q series as well, that 28mm for is a No go. I shoot with an XT5 and An M6, some day an M11 or 12 or whatever top of the line Leica will have when I am ready.
nice camera ;) not to burst the bubble of the new camera but I want to get this straight, it may feel like shooting with film but the spirit of shooting film is not just in the manual focus and control. I thought a lot about this recently and kind of accept that it is a digital camera and has the convenience of free clicks (not exactly slowing down your photography like film does because every frame is basically free). I mean I shoot less film on my analog M and more with the digital M because of the reasons mentioned but you just know you are missing the feeling you get when you see your negatives and have them scanned (if you are not so much of a film shooter or you don't feel the same about film, then perhaps the digital M is the best balance out there). good luck and have fun a blast with the camera
The thing they don't tell you about Leica is that you actually need to own two of them, so you have one available when the other one inevitably needs servicing. My M240 has been in Germany since January, still haven't heard anything 😢
I've had this itch for too long. Visited the Leica store in LA too many times. The barrier to entry keeps me shooting Fuj however and that's ok for now...
Congrats on the new camera! I've really been enjoying your photos from Japan and have been getting a lot of inspiration from the videos you've been making from this trip. I'm going to Japan in November and it's been fun following your trip the last couple of months! I've always been tempted to pick up a Leica and was thinking that my Japan trip could be a good opportunity depending on how the yen is fairing... out of curiosity, how much of a discount did you get picking up a M11P in Japan vs in the US?
Really enjoyed that walk around and chat. I haven’t even held a Leica, let alone shot with one, however I honestly can’t justify the cost, even if I did want one. Don’t get me wrong, I’m intrigued just like you were, however here in Australia there is an average cost difference of $6-8k when compared to Fuji. Now, I’m sure that once all of the technical specs and pixel peeping have concluded the Leica’s will win, but the Fuji’s do a fantastic job. Having said that, we live one life only, and if anyone wants a Leica and can afford it, I say go for it. ✌️
LOL, I recognise that golden art piece. I walked by there to get to a shopping centre to eat at Texas Roadhouse there. First time I heard of the place requiring a reservation but man, walking there and driving around there was so much fun. Sadly my experience in Osaka was a day trip only but it was really fun to be there. A bit bummed I missed out on the castle site.
Congrats! I strongly recommend having a look at the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 lens for M-mount… amazing lens with a split personality between classic rendering (up to f2) and modern sharpness and contrast (2.8 and up). A great reasonably priced lens that can stand toe to toe with any Leica lens.
@@elliotresnick5433 hello, I am using a Nikon ZF, which has turned out to be an excellent platform for manual focus lenses… eye tracking and focus confirmation both work with chipped manual focus lenses… much less having to punch in to an image and more concentrating on composition.
Congrats on your new purchase. I found your morning shots quite tight. 50 is not really my fav frame. I prefer 28mm but the Q is too big. So happy with my ricoh GRd. Small and super compact. The night shots were nicer compared to the morning. Hope to see more of your photos
Congratulations 🎉 Funny, just one week ago I made a lot of excuses to pull the trigger on a Q3 😂 I definitely felt bad for a bit until I went out to shoot it for the first time 😅 I knew I would like it from the time I spent with the original Q years ago but then getting to shoot on a Leica definitely is like scratching an itch. I am fond of Nikon and especially Fuji as well (X-Pro 4 might tear the next hole in my finances 👀👀👀) but Leica… is and stays Leica.
@@nguyendaniel7042 that is a tough question because it’s about so much money. Here’s my tought process how I ended up with the Leica Q3: first, I love manual focusing but I don’t feel proficient enough to give up on auto focus, especially for occasions where I don’t have the time to get the manual focus right. Second, the resolution of the Q3 really means you can comfortably use 35 and 50mm crops without an issue. Even 75 and 90 can be serviceable for many use cases - I know it’s similar for the M11 although I don’t know if the shooting experience is as smooth. Third, the lens characteristics of the Q3 make the whole camera Leicas best bang for your buck proposition in my opinion (I recommend Hugh Brownstones video on the Q3). Fourth, I really appreciate the IP52 resistance rating of the Q3. Fifth, I barely fit the Q3 in my budget; imagine the step up to a Leica M11 + Summilux combo. It wasn’t going to happen 😅 But if money is secondary and you really crave the rangefinder style of shooting (which I completely understand, I think about SLRs every year because I just like to see what I shoot the way it is and not the way it’s rendered by a sensor) then maybe the Q3 would not be the best choice. What I also like about the M11 is the built in memory. Still can’t get over the fact the Q3 only has one card slot and that’s that. Maybe it’s just my anxiety but the thought of having precious moments of an event or travel lost because I only have a singular point of saving the files… that’s somehow terrifying.
@@nguyendaniel7042 Tough question. I have a Q2, which led me to get an M11 because I wanted a smaller lens to make the camera easier to put in a pocket. Problem is, I seem to take better pictures with the Q2, and I have a bag so the pocket thing isn’t that important. I’ve had rangefinders before and they’re nice but for me they’re not a reason to buy or not buy a camera but maybe that’s because I grew up using them. The M11 has amazing low light performance though but I think the Q3 is the same. In your position I’d get a used Q2, see if you like it. If you do, trade for a Q3 and if not go for the M11 if you have the money.
Hey. If you have fun with it? It's all about having fun making fotos. I recently switched from the X-T2 to the X-Pro 2 and I love taking fotos with it.
OK, new and used are two different business deals. Buy used and sell it for about what you paid for it. That's always a good deal. I pooh-pooh Leica but have three old ones. M8.2, M9, M240. I like that they work. I pick one up, turn it on and push the shutter button and it works, always. That's nice. The color and IQ is good and the digitals work well with vintage lenses. The Leicas are fun to shoot with. Nice pics, BTW. ;o0
Welcome to the “dark side,” my friend 🔴😉! I’ve been shooting with both systems for years, as documented on my channel, and I completely agree that it’s all about the “feel.” Than anything else. I’d love to have you on the Visual Storytelling Podcast to dive deeper into this topic. Our audience would really benefit from your insights!
It would be easier to stomach the obligatory and ponderous "analog experience/feels like shooting film" rationalizations if you weren't spending over 50% of the time shooting from the rear display screen. Between UA-cam and Instagram it feels like photography is being buried under a landfill's worth of affectations, branding opportunities, meticulously curated knit caps, chore coats, silver rings, monetized presets aping past masters, and uninspired images and vacation snapshots from a narrow roster of trust fund baby destinations.
This will be the last person I explain this to but I show the back LCD in pretty much all my POV style videos so people can see what and how I’m composing, but clearly that’s a mistake according to you.
Just looking at your video something I don’t understand : you say the Q3 is not your kind of camera because it’s a 28mm. At 7:25, the camera has a 28mm. Something I didn’t get ?
I said I don't shoot 28 "that much" to buy a $6K camera that is strictly 28mm. I filmed the broll with the 28 on because its silver and looked better than my uglier looking 50mm lol

not to burst the bubble of the new camera but I want to get this straight, it may feel like shooting with film but the spirit of shooting film is not just in the manual focus and control.
Just bought a m11-p being also owner of Fuji system. Upgraded from an M240…I’m amazed
r all of those images, straight out of camera or edited? thank you
Do you focus with the range finder, the lcd screen or the visoflex?
I went from fuji to my leica Q but you just blew everything in between and went for the GRAIL right away.. wow!
Does it make your photos better?? I have the Canon P ! It’s literally the same ! Just different logo!
The thing they don't tell you about Leica is that you actually need to own two of them, so you have one available when the other one inevitably needs servicing. My M240 has been in Germany since January, still haven't heard anything 😢
Congratulations with your birthday and new rangefinder. Suits you well :).
*adds a "welcome to the club" comment*
But for real, you're gonna enjoy it. As it seems you already have been. Loving my M10 and 28 mm lens combo.
Still waiting for your answer 'is the grass really greener on the other side' 😂😊? 2:11
I've had this itch for too long. Visited the Leica store in LA too many times. The barrier to entry keeps me shooting Fuj however and that's ok for now...
Makes sense. Fuji hasn't produced anything for us in years
I would also love a Leica lease deal for creators ❤
Where'd you get it from?
Seems like the invite to the Q3 launch did the trick eventually haha - enjoy the cam bro! ⚡
damn, I guess so. They planted the seed lol
The Q-series cameras from Leica are the "gateway drug" to their ecosystem. the most creative marketing ploy in all of photography if you ask me.
I like 40mm focal length a lot, which camera body are you using?
@@elliotresnick5433 hello, I am using a Nikon ZF, which has turned out to be an excellent platform for manual focus lenses… eye tracking and focus confirmation both work with chipped manual focus lenses… much less having to punch in to an image and more concentrating on composition.
The cat: "You've been influenced. I'm telling you. Why don't you listen."
Congrats on your new purchase. I found your morning shots quite tight. 50 is not really my fav frame. I prefer 28mm but the Q is too big. So happy with my ricoh GRd. Small and super compact. The night shots were nicer compared to the morning. Hope to see more of your photos
why did u go with the silver one, not the black?
Hey my friend. If you ever save your images in JPEG, do you rather prefer JXL nowadays instead?
I’d love* to see someone use a meticulously clean Red Scale 3.5/50mm Elmar on one of these. The 24mp sensors agree with the lens pretty well it seems.
Bro took the red pill 🔴 Welcome to the Leica-verse!
Was the video color grading done with the same analog preset?
No I color grade my videos in Davinci Resolve!
Man im so biased, should i go for a q3 or an m11? Been more than 1 year with x100v, 35mm equivalent but i dont feel “connected” enough with it 🥲
@@nguyendaniel7042 that is a tough question because it’s about so much money. Here’s my tought process how I ended up with the Leica Q3:
first, I love manual focusing but I don’t feel proficient enough to give up on auto focus, especially for occasions where I don’t have the time to get the manual focus right. It wasn’t going to happen 😅
But if money is secondary and you really crave the rangefinder style of shooting (which I completely understand, I think about SLRs every year because I just like to see what I shoot the way it is and not the way it’s rendered by a sensor) then maybe the Q3 would not be the best choice.
Congrats on the Leica. Try the TTArtisan 50mm F0.95 on your M11 if you get a chance.
How does this compare with the Minolta CLE?
What do you have on the hotshoe at 3:05?
I got the MP years back and I never looked back, currently using the M11, definitely lends to my shooting style
I knew itWelcome to the club, can't wait for more content an photos Highly recommending 28/2.8 ASPH., I think you'll like it
A friend just loaned me the 28 2.8 elmarit for my M240. Wonderful lens. Only issue is not being able to see frame lines because I wear glasses.
@@prherman I think those viewfinder magnifiers might help👌🏻
Seems we made that decision on the same day, at least same week :) totally sign what you said about it
I see how it is Faizal.
New glasses, new Leica, new Faizal.
I’ve came to Leica m9 and leica m6 by purchasing the Fuji X100V. It’s a natural conclusion.
did you learn any Japanese for the trip? i know you don't normally shoot 50mm, are you enjoying it?
every photo looks like film. good job
@@FaizalWestcottyou shouldn’t have even had to explain that to this person. I got that based on, you know, logic. Love your videos, by the way. 🙂✌🏽
Faizal do you use zone focusing?
a street photographer's dream list usually includes 'I want a leica'
Just looking at your video something I don’t understand : you say the Q3 is not your kind of camera because it’s a 28mm. At 7:25, the camera has a 28mm. Something I didn’t get ?
I said I don't shoot 28 "that much" to buy a $6K camera that is strictly 28mm. I filmed the broll with the 28 on because its silver and looked better than my uglier looking 50mm lol
Welcome to the club, my friend.
i want a leica just can't put the money towards one at the moment. so saving. congrats on the new system.
Welcome to the Leica world!!
