The presence of fathers, brothers, uncles and grandfathers in a woman’s life is important and it results in the creation of women like Candace. That’s why she mentioned the single mothers issue/statistics in her speech.

She needed to speak fast because she had a small amount of time to get through all of her talking points. These hearings do not allow people to talk on and on. You get a few minutes and then your cut off and they go to the next person on the list. I agree she seemed rushed, but she needed to get through everything so her full point could be heard :)

As a whole, we are all Americans. But when there's a local community problem that is specifically within culture/religion, we need to address it properly in a manner that doesn't go against Law.
For example i am Hmong. It is still okay in Hmong tradition and normalize to lay hands on a women, and treat 13 yr olds as if they were 18. Many young hmong American girls are "forced" into marriage and are even pregnant during early highschool youth. But we do not have enough ppl or a leader like Candace, someone who is strong enough, brave enough, to stand against and point out specific flaws in our tradition. These types of things are kept quiet/ignored and only a few hundred 1st/2nd Gen Hmong Americans like myself, stand for a transition/progression in our beliefs. to better our children's future.

I'm 54. I'm white. My mother is still alive, she was born in 1927. My father was born in 1927, he passed away last year. Both my parents grew up like Candace's grandfather sharecropping with their hands on the tobacco and cotton. I grew up like her learning about God and never did I hear them putting down any other people. Nether of my parents gave me money to spend, that is why I went to work. I dropped out of High School, I went into construction at the bottom but I did not stay at the bottom. I worked hard and learned my trade. If you are determined you can make it. They knew the value of hard work and the dollar. I learned from them, now I know it too. What she is saying many of have known for years. Hopefully enough people will get behind her and push this till even the deaf will hear and understand. It is time for a real (good) change. Go Candace.

But I guess that doesn't really matter in the US. A presidential candidate could literally be a child murderer, and the US electorate would still find a reason to vote for them.
