    A Nurburgring lap time of 7:38 puts the Cayenne Turbo GT in the same category as the 997 Turbo S, C6 Corvette ZR1, Lexus LFA, Ferrari 458 and more. That’s pretty impressive for a SUV.

      It's just 6 seconds slower than a Carrera GT which is really incredible. And yes I know there is a major difference in tires, but still, they couldn't be more different and yet so similar in performance.

      What a sorry state the v8 engine is these days...permanently mated with a turbo, super low revving, artificial exhaust "note", emissions strangled with an unpleasant back pressure cough between gear changes. Buying a car with a V8 today is completely anticlimactic, yes its fast but so is a 600hp 2.0lt turbo.

    I totally disagree with Henrys"overall it's not a beauty", because the Cayenne Coupe is the most plausible, credible "performance SUV".
    Unlike some fugly DBXs and Lambo "Anus's", the design of the Turbo GT is quite subtle, it has a credible Porsche fly line and most importantly it drives like a Porsche.
    Beauty comes with driving of this amazing vehicle...

    Cant stand people saying the Cayenne is "pointless", no you just cant afford it, you couldn't afford any Porsche anyway.
    It makes perfect sense, some people want a comfy, large useful fast car, you know an SUV.
    Most wealthy people are tall, even at 6'2 getting in a new A class is far from comfy so when youre paying through the nose for a car you sure as hell want to fit in it.

      @@andyhunt457 Yeah difference is the 911 was always a sports car and a good car. That and Porsche has developed it over 50 years to basically be arguably the best sports and drivers car out there. You can do all the tuning in the world to Cayenne and whilst yes it is impressive. Fundamentally it is still a big 2 tonne SUV. You can put pig in a frock but at the end of the day it is still a pig and as car compromised. This thing at the moment where car makers put a bazillion HP in an SUV Its like putting Mentos in Coke it is funny but doesn't accomplish a whole lot.

    Great review Henry, as usual. Memories of when the Cayenne first came out, nobody wanted them, it was Dubai that really kicked off the sales that then went global. I went out in a Turbo S down a sandy track in Dubai, as a passenger at around 100mph, impressive. Then around Dubai Autodrome with a young German rally driver that Porsche appeared to have hired to scare potential buyers to death, and he succeeded. I can only imagine what this one is like to drive. Also, I did manage to drive a modded Cayenne Turbo with around 700 bhp, that the UAE National owner said was great but needed more power........
    Such was the life back in Dubai, at that time, no speed limits, friendly police, almost paradise Henry.......

    Henry’s typically honest and engaging style of review albeit applied to a contentious subject. Of course it drives like a Porsche should, and was created for a share of the market. Some customers however, have more money than sense or style.

    • @mattchannel7075
      @mattchannel7075 2 роки тому +3

      I am thinking about buying one. So you are saying I do not have a sense of style? Why? I think it looks great for an SUV, even better than the Macan (I own a 3 year old Macan Turbo right now)

    • @quicknickdriver8510
      @quicknickdriver8510 2 роки тому +4

      Nothing personal Matt. The ratio of style/sense to money is infinitely variable and in this case the Porsche is typically expensive. It may look good and drive exceptionally well for an SUV, but it’s an SUV, which is why I described it as contentious. Opinions are split, I sit in a different camp to you. Please do consider your purchase of the Cayenne Turbo GT as a personal matter rather than a statement and don’t let anyone else’s opinion question your sense or style...

    • @charlielong
      @charlielong 2 роки тому +2

      It’s quite “contentious” to assume that different preferences from your own mean others have an inferior sense or style to you. Preferences are subjective. Yes it is a performance SUV, but it’s the fastest SUV to date and can serve practically every single need that a driver desires in a car, all while in an elevated seating position. Believe it or not, there’s a reason SUVs are gaining popularity and sedans/coupes are dying out.

    I get the fact that it's pretty good for what it is, but the general idea of a boosted, racier SUV as a whole is just plain stupid in my opinion; and spending such an amount on this doesn't make sense, as you won't be able to use it for the actual SUV type of activities.
    Like Henry says, get an M5 CS, RS6, E63, and so on. No need for the useless extra weight and height, if you want something fast for the road with practicality. If you want an actual SUV, get an actual SUV with a decent engine, travel, tires for multi-purpose, and so on!

    What about an SUV that looks like the GT but with the features of the trans Siberia, hide the snorkel somehow, LED lights that are as good but styled into the roof, snow mode not chains must be possible somehow. That would be awesome.

    I think Porsche has found a way to defy physics with this car. It has the same Nuburgring lap time as a Nissan GTR.

    I absolutely despise CUVs and crossovers but the porches Cayenne and Macan are really handsome cars. And for the GT team to tune is very cool. I honestly don't know why you'd want a sport tuned crossover unless you're an enthusiast with a family and can't convince the Spouse/SO to get a dedicated car for driving.

    ...the whole point is practically, right? Why are there only 2 seats in the back of this SUV, unlike most small car hot hatches?
