#NHL
I've done these videos enough to know what some of the comments are going to be, so let me reiterate on some things to try and avoid some of clutter.
This video/ranking only includes CURRENT logos, OFFICIALLY deemed NOT primary by the NHL. Reverse Retro logos do not count, specialty jersey or event logos do not count. These are all official current logos, that are not considered primary.
:) love you
Alan Shields
Hamilton
South Lanarkshire
Scotland.
My favourite secondary N.H.L team Logos are Vancouver Canucks Johnny Canuck logo & The Columbus Blue Jackets secondary logo with the canon not just because it's a cannon but because of the style of cannon used in the logo.
Arsenal F.C in the
English Premier League currently use a very modern cannon in there primary logo but if you go back to the 70's Arsenal used to just have a canon with no shield round it & it looked a lot more old school & I like old school things that's why Thev Blue Jackets secondary logo works for me because of the style of cannon they myb could of used a modern cannon but for me that would look out of place.
Hey Neil why didn't you use the Ranger's lady Liberty logo??? All jokes enjoy watching a fellow maritimer on the UA-cam. always excited for the uploads.
The Canadiens should consider adopting their globe logo as a fulltime secondary logo, and the flyers should use a liberty bell logo
Strange how the Flyers haven't done the Liberty Bell yet.
As a Philly native, we learned from that disaster that was the “3d” version many moons ago.
Other than colors, we’re good as is.😉
I love the Stars’ Texas outline logo. Also like the Blues trumpet secondary logo!
that blues logo makes more sense bc they havent used the arch logo in the video since the reebok days
Hey Neil, you should rank NCAA jerseys by conference
Yessss
Rank toilet brands
while I am not necessarily a fan of the team I have always thought that Calgary's flaming horse head secondary or alternate logo was pretty sharp looking and pays hommage to the western roots of region
Yeah I was gunna say I thought calgarys secondary logo was the flaming horse?
Washington’s is also a “w”…that’s why it’s often referred to as the “weagle”
I wish they would make that the actual team logo
Neil! I have full uni concepts to send in.. would you prefer all home away and alternate at once, or sent in sets like only home, only away, etc. love the videos :)
I remember asking if you could rank the NHL secondary logos way back in 2017. In fact, in July of 2017 you and the post2post crew filmed a video doing so. This video reminded me of that day. It’s really cool to have followed this channel (or channels) since it’s early days. I’m really happy to see how much work Neil has put into his channels, and the dedication he puts into his work. Cheers Neil, keep up the great work bud!
Not sure if you noticed since it wasn’t mentioned, just wanted to point out that the green in the Canucks logo is a “C” which makes it a little cooler to me than just a hockey stick
That sharks logo would look amazing on the front of the stealth jersey.
Sabres logo was on the one shoulder opposite the winter classic patch when they played the Rangers. Bring back the B with the sword!!
The original shoulder patch for the bolts is fire
The Edmonton Oilers should use the retro oil drop logo as an alternate logo.
I do in fact like some of what I see, the lighting is sick, soothing voice, love the jerseys and hats in every vid, love the lists. Great content man
Something else about Florida. Barkov, who wears the “C” has an identical banner above “Florida” that says, “captain”. The logo is meant to represent an army patch. The Panthers also have a second logo on the helmet with a Palm Tree/stick in front of the Sun.
a cool thing ab the cats secondary logo is that if u r an alternate captain or captain it adds another band above/below the florida/panthers on it
The Kings need to go back the crown being their primary logo ASAP
I’m kindve shocked that Neil put that Vancouver logo rather than the skate. I could’ve sworn man loved that one.
i love that NY islanders logo, it looks wonderful in that black jersey
Pittsburgh has a secondary logo. It’s on their throwbacks and reverse retros
diagonal font isnt a logo, and if you’re talking about the shoulder patch on those jerseys, its just the primary logo with no triangle and a different colored stick
@@zugbrugh6472 yeah shoulder
22:04 This was so satisfying to hear as a Sharks fan
As a avid Caps and Preds fan I love the shoulder patch/alternate logos for both and I’m glad you ranked them highly
A lot of people dont realize that the Knights secondary logo is the star thats on the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
The leafs actually do have a secondary logo. It isn’t worn on ice, but it’s used a ton in their other branding. It’s a T with an O over top of it and there’s a leaf in the O
The Leafs may use others logos within the MLS brand on merch and other things, but they officially do NOT have a secondary logo claimed with the NHL.
Great choice in the countdown
I'm totally with you on the feeling of ranking your favorite team low/last. As Caps fan, I don't know if I'd put it dead last, but I would definitely say our current PRIMARY logo ranks near, if not at, the bottom. Which is a shame, because we've had some decent logos (including our current secondary). I wish our Reverse Retros or a red-white-blue version of the Capitol building jerseys (the black one) would become the basis, because I like the colors we currently use, but the logos from the bronze and blue years were better.
I hadn't seen Montreal's before, and I thought it was weird you didn't show it when you talked about it. Then I was like "Oh, those letters ARE the logo". Well deserved no. 32.
Hey, Neil. I thought you would’ve used the “Skating Penguin” without the triangle for the Penguins secondary logo instead of the wordmark, but that’s just my opinion. (Yes, my fandom is showing…lol). Love the channel!
Wasn't a matter of opinion or choice from me. The logo you're talking about is not officially listed as the Penguins secondary logo, according to the NHL.
The San Jose Sharks logo would look absolutely phenomenal on the stealth jersey
Nailed 1st 3... nice show
Totally agree with your decision to rank the Avs' C low. They made a big mistake by moving away from the yeti foot. Go Avs go!
They had to move away from the foot because of an incident between Howler (the old yeti mascot) and a fan.
@@thatguyisme135 I don't think that's the reason. That happened in what, the late 90s or early 2000s? And then they kept the foot until the mid-10s? I think they just thought it was too 90s and cheesy and not aging well, but I grew up with it and still love it. Anyway, #GoAvsGo!
Hey Neil have you ever thought of maybe using tier lists to rank
I like these better tbh
i remember when the leafs got the TML letters secondary logo on jerseys
I agree with the top 5, but I have a different order.
5. Vegas
4. San Jose
3. Columbus
2. Carolina
1. Washington
The sharks one is amazing
I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts/ranking on 'all-time' NHL logos. Where might the North Stars logo land, or how about the Atlanta Flames? And of course the Whalers. How would they rank among current logos?
9:30 this isn't actually the old Canucks logo though. This is a modernized version of the original logo and came about in 2007 with the Reebok jerseys
Now that there are 32 teams I can finally rank my top division worth of hockey stuff. My top 8 in no order are:
1. Washington (Gotta put'em first regardless)
2. Boston
3. Buffalo
4. Winnipeg
5. Seattle
6. Carolina
7. Chicago
8. Vegas
I tried ranking these, but really the only two that I felt strong about was Winnipeg being #8 and Boston being #1.
My favourite secondary logo is Washington. Second is Seattle
The Vegas secondary is based on the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. They swapped out the corners for down facing swords to go with the knight theme. They did some merch with it on mostly red backgrounds and put it front and center on that wicked RR.
Don’t move your rankings with any popular opinions. That’s why I watch your vids. It’s your opinion and what looks good to you. Do I agree with you all the time? No. You like too many white jerseys. I don’t care. I’m not the one getting mustard and wing sauce on them. However I do like your explanations and value your opinions as a logo and jersey connoisseur. I have a dark BUF jersey in cart right now waiting to pull the trigger on payday because of you.
I’m already subbed. If I could sub 100X more I would.
Peace, brotha!!
I was gonna get tilted when I heard the flames low on the list. But Then I realized it was text and not blasty.
That is a grizzley a bruin is a black bear it weighs 250lbs to 400 lbs (biggest norm) a grizzley 800 lbsto 1700 lbs Someone come up with a bruins alt..all black with "The Town" on the jersey. Ps...bit of white trim applied as needed (very min) but not like devils style..no freaking yellow or gold allowed...just a thought..neil help us...
Sharks need to bring back their "fin" logo as their secondary
1.Seattle 2. Columbus 3. St. Louis 4. Arizona 5.Winnipeg
Not necessarily a secondary logo or maybe it is but I hafta day I love the foot for Colorado.. colours, the branding, symbolism. Nailed it!
You gained a new sub man i really enjoy your videos keep up the great work!!!
Thank you I appreciate the kind words and you subbing!
I'm a canucks fan and I feel like that canucks shoulder patch ranking is fair
The middle space in the flag of the canes is the state outline of North Carolina
It’s the outline of North Carolina
You should rank NHL teams uniforms
The pens do have another secondary logo that is the same penguin but without the triangle. Just letting you know.
That is not officially a secondary logo. It's qualified by the NHL as an 'additional jersey logo'.
Neil in case you didn't know the Vegas alternate logo also is a nod to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
With the Nashville guitar pick logo, the stars in the circle are from the Tennessee state flag. I love that logo and kinda wished they would've used it or a variation of it as the front crest for the Stadium Series uniform
dont the flames have a different one where the a is the atlanta logo
Get him to 50k boys😎🔥🔥
the hurricanes Alt logo negative space is the state of North Carolina even the Alt jersey has the state flag on the left shoulder
The Blues also have the logo, with the trumpet.
i really don’t understand why people don’t subscribe unless it’s like a guest acc and u cant subscribe without an acc
So I'm sure this is my imagination running away with myself but the blue above the capital top going up into the eagle head with it coming to a point like that it it always makes me think of the top of the Washington monument
Not only that but on the bottom of the sharks logo there's an S for the Sharks team name
Maple Leafs need to bring back the "TML" secondary logo
Every Caps fan including myself wants the eagle as the primary logo, hoping it happens one day
Maybe not "Every", but "Most". This Caps fan wants the Capitol building logo as the primary logo. While it still says Capitals in letters, it would have more elements as the Capitol building, hockey sticks, puck and stars. Either of that logo, your suggestion or the screaming eagle would be better than the boring thing we have now.
@@andersnilsson8303 totally agree, some variation of the capitol or eagle with the same color scheme sounds amazing
Which team do you think has the best overall branding?
The Bruins have the BEST alternate logo!
Don't forget the Washington logo the eagle also makes a W for Washington DC
we call the Caps one the "Weagle"
Vegas is weird in that I really like it as a shoulder patch but as the main logo on the reverse retro I didn't care for it. I think it would be the same for Seattle too.
Sharks have the best logos not only in the NHL but all of sports, now we just need to fix their jerseys, they havent really changed since 2013 too long
I wish the sharks would make that their primary.
I'm going to be honest and say that I like the Anaheim Ducks secondary logo because it really messes together both of the eras of the Ducks
Washington’s secondary should be their primary
My favorites are the Washington Capitals, Arizona (state outline), Florida Panthers, Carolina, Kraken, Chicago, Colorado, Sharks, Stars (state outline).
I think Minnesota should do one with a state outline. It has an iconic shape. They kind of did that with the Winter Classic jerseys.
"Canes Fan but can't not bring this up. I dont know if this official or not but I see it. For the Capitals Alternate logo not only is there the negative space for the capital building but if you look at the neck of the eagle the shape going into the head is the shape of the Washington Monument
WHAT??? Neil didn’t put the Avalanche at #1? You’re not the real Neil.
The Red Wings could do Falcons or Cougars
Neil, I am surprised you didn’t pick the other Stars secondary logo. The one with the state of Texas…
My top 5 logos in this ranking:
1. Capitals
2. Sharks
3. Panthers
4. Bruins
5. Sabres
1. Capitals
2. Kraken
3. Golden Knights
4. Coyotes
5. Sharks
6. Blackhawks
7. Avalanche
8. Blue Jackets
9. Hurricanes
10. Panthers
I love secondary logos. I really wish Colorado would bring back the big foot logo, 1990’s were the best for secondary logos. My current favorites are: Seattle, Boston, washington, Carolina, Vancouver (stick and rink), Columbus, Minnesota, Nashville, Chicago, Winnipeg, Ottawa, St. Louis and Arizona. With Arizona i feel the crescent moon on the Kachina jersey is their secondary. I think it would look better without the word marking on it. The Ducks need to go back to their original logo, i feel the webbed D is a perfect secondary/shoulder patch logo.
I thought the Penguins logo would be the one from the yellow alt and the shoulder on the new alt, not the word mark.
Can we get this for the nfl pls. My favorite logo of all time is the Bengals secondary/tertiary logo (the tiger head and the leaping tiger), as I am a bengals fan. They’re branding made me fall in love. But yeah, I’d love to see where you rank it with other amazing logos in the NFL. They all have such great stories.
Good idea!
I love the Big foot for The Avs but there C is pretty good as well
I enjoy all your videos
Thank you for the kind words!
Love the Rangers jerseys in the background!
I wish the macfarline logo was an official secondary logo for the oilers
Or bring back the "Rigger" logo
You should rank all word marks
Neil you should do another drawing contest I totally missed the last one
How come u didnt do the liberty for nyr?
the Sharks logo is so so good. As a Sharks fan, I would be very happy if they used that as more of a primary logo, but there is another logo that shows the full body of the shark that I prefer that has the same face as the logo you ranked
Can you do a video on ranking the GMHL logos or jersey? I know you made that video before but there are some new teams in league.
Chicago Blackhawks have the best logo. Them jerseys are so nice in person.
Do u think the Sharks should use the alternate logo as their primary logo?
The Canes alt. would look better if the hockey stick was damaged, particularly if it looked snapped at the bottom. They could add some imagery of damage on the blade of the stick as well.
The Ny Rangers one I thought was the best
Doug MacLean was a horrible GM when he oversaw the Blue Jackets. He didn't do many things right. Oh, he went out and drafted Rick Nash, I'll give him that. The other thing he did was add the cannon to give the Jackets an unique identity no one else had, The story goes he drove eight hours to Missouri after conducting an exhaustive search to find a cannon he could buy. When he finally found one, he bought it and hauled all the way back to Columbus where it was restored and shined up. If you go to a Jackets game, you can have your picture taken with the cannon. I have many times, Don't touch the barrel though. That's a definite no-no.
Say WHHHHHAAAAA???? Ah Neil! I’m deeply hurt where you put my Ducks haha but that’s totally cool having a different opinion.
FACT OF THE DAY: the shoulder patch logo was 1st introduced back in 2010 when we had our alternate jersey that is the current home jersey.
For the record, that is my favorite Ducks logo of all time (primary, secondary, you name it!) STAY MIGHTY NEIL!!! 🏒 🦆
I thought you would choose the stilised D for Detroit
That is not a current alternate logo. It is considered a previous specialty logo.
I... Don't know if I actually understood your process quite right as to what qualified as secondary logos (old/old secondary jerseys? Shoulder patches? Present-day secondary jerseys?), but I feel your selections were off for the most part, to the point of nearly be offended (I don't really get why YT offered some of your content in the first place ...OK, I like design and hockey, but hey, what the heck). I will agree to rank SJ and Washington high, though.
As explained in the video I only used "current" logos that are officially listed as secondary logos by the NHL for each team. If each team did not have an official secondary logo then I chose their "current" official wordmark logo that the is officially listed by the NHL for each team.
Were you really offended by the ranking? Do you take it THAT seriously? It's just a fun video. I can't imagine anyone taking it that seriously where they would be offended. That's concerning.
Don't the Flames have Blasty as their secondary logo?
I also think that even if they're not officially secondary logos you could've shown some interesting ones and ranked them all the same; simply mentioning it's not official
Blasty is not technically their secondary logo, only Reverse Retro logo.
I did not want to inject any subjective rules into the ranking by showing 'other' logos, because then people would be critical of the ones I chose.
There are at least 6 of these logos that should really be their team's primary logo and be front and centre on their jerseys and not stuck up on the shoulder. My top 3 - 1. Columbus Cannon. 2. Washington Weagle 3. San Jose Scary Shark.
Would the Stars have ranked higher if they had the logo with the Texas state borders that they use on the ice surface?
Yes! I found it SO weird that the logo was not officially listed as their alternate. I actually thought it was a mistake. I reached out to the NHL marketing division and they confirmed that it was not their official secondary logo. Shame.
