@Frank Nil well since we are judged for our color we definitely say it and there is a difference if you're white then you're white not a person of color

Exactly my thoughts. This moment is amazing because it shows how willing to pander to the public's basest impulses Selina is. Instead of responding to her opponent's remarks with nuance, she goes to the opposite extreme and belittles her struggle with a condescending platitude. But it works! Because the public wants easy answers to difficult questions! And so does Selina. She's the politician we deserve, not the one we need.
It's Great as all human life is here. The other candidates look nervous when she says "Man Up" then Hugh Laurie joins in the applause. Selina suddenly realizes by the applause that it resonates and repeats it, for effect. Brilliant 7 Series. Fantastic show. Acting/Writing Top Class..:)
I have watched TV in London since 1960, when I was 6 years old and this was the best American TV Series that I have ever seen ahead (for me) of Ally McBeal,Sgt Bilko but with Curb Your Enthusiasm and Larry David as Number 2....
It's twistedly bizarre how Selena would blame other women for the misogyny she herself settled for and also how she was so mad at other women for not smiling through men's shitty behavior that she herself was not clearly never okayed with....I know it's all a satire but Selena is such an interesting character
I see some Sarah Palin on her character, maybe even some Hillary. Some people say Idiocracy became a documentary, well this show seems like a prequel on HOW, ask Jonah!
No, i agreed to what she said even before she said it. I mean, don't we all kinda tired of people trying to remind other people that they are different so they have the need of deserving a little more appreciation than the rest, talk about some equality here don't you think?
It IS bad to agree with her. She's not saying this with any real conviction. She blurted it out in frustration at her unloved daughter moments earlier to undermine her priorities/concerns. But she knew that it would resonate with older white people of privilege like herself (especially men) who want easy answers to the problem of systemic oppression. "Man up!" doesn't mean anything of substance. "Man up!" means "Shut up. No one cares! This is not important! You're just weak - like a woman!" It's a heinous thing to say, but she is appealing to the worst in all Americans: the part of us that thinks that people who are struggling somehow deserve their struggle - even if we have no idea what they're going through!

OK but both Selina and her opponent are caricatures of the same simplifying, pandering impulse. The difference is that you can hear, almost word-for-word, the lines given by her opponent said by actual politicians but it's simply impossible to imagine a national politician saying Selina's line (in public, at least).
