I nearly cried during this scene. Her and Gary. It was perfectly written and executed. There was a brief moment when Selina was human. When she realises Gary was the only person who actually cared.

It's the scene following this where she all alone in The Oval Office with no one around that it dawns on her what she has done, then it's just the icing on the cake that her funeral is forgotten about when it's annouced Tom Hanks has died. It's the perfect ending for such a despicable character.

Honestly I agree with the idea that Selena sacrificed more than anyone. There is no part of Selena that is Selena. She gave her all to politics to the point that she is nothing without it. Her every thought, idea, and whim is solely on the basis of popularity, and that is very sad indeed.

this is true. the other moment she seemed more human than any other was when she broke up with the qatari ambassador, who she genuinely seemed happy with, in order to pursue her presidential ambitions. that was the first in a long, long line of sacrifices. she won in the end, but only by losing everything that mattered.

i think the episode should’ve ended with her in the office alone. i think the “24 years in the future” thing was silly (silly is different than funny) and unnecessary. there’s a difference between being comedy/satire and being cartoonish. like yes i know the good ole “look theyre old but up to the same shenanigans” bit is used at the end of a lot of shows but it just seemed dumb in an otherwise interesting episode. Anyone else?

I totally respect your view, but I think the show ending with someone like Selena being the president after being ruthless to everyone around her and going against any principles she had sends a wrong message. If it had to end there, her political career should have ended without her being the president. The "24 years in future" just confirms that there is nothing good about her to be written in the history. Showing Richard, a man with integrity and honesty as the two time Nobel prize winning president may be a bit unrealistic (wish if it were real). But it gives us hope that good people can do good things and history would appreciate them.

I agree, fast forwarding into time on final episodes of shows normally feels lazy and unsatisfying to me. If I was on a writing team for any show I would forbid it, unless it really services the story. Not just for cheap visual gags and easy closure. Silicone Valley did it too, and although it wasn't awful I still was not a fan. Weeds did it and that was the worst (Although that show had already tanked by that stage)
