  • BMACVAGS here. In this video we replace a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI Simple Easy Steps. Although this is for a Ford Focus, many of the principles and practices are still the same. Most turbos fail due to oil starvation in some way or another. This can stem from poor maintenance causing carbon build up the the oil, which then leads to debris in the oil wearing down bearungs and seals allowing oil to pass through. Although some engne are more suseptable than others, good maintenance is the key to longetvity. Please remember to comment, share and hit the notification butting for more videos.

ive just watched all 3 videos of your turbo guide and although im not a mechanic i feel confident that i could fix my own turbo now! brilliant explanation, excellent camera work. ive only had my ford c max 1.6 diesel for 2 mths and paid £1600 for it, a new tubo was fitted in March this year and yesterday i lost all acelaration and after inspection i saw that the bolt on the impellor or actuator or what ever its called , is missing and it looks like it had been bashing about on the fins which are really damaged. I have oil on both sides of the turbo exactly as youve shown. Terriffic job fella i take my hat off to you.

Did you changed the oil feed pipe and the banjo bolt ??....did you remove the oil sieve from banjo bolt???...also remove inlet manifold and decoke it and check injector seals and if possible have the cyclinder head dipped and cleaned

Good work on cleaning pipes etc and checking oil supply. Loads of people just change the turbo on these and oil supply is what causes failure.
I've seen people just change turbo and 5 minutes later it needs another! Haha

Brilliant vid I've watched a few of your stuff on vw, I took took mine off this afternoon on an 03 fiesta tdci watching this, I don't think I'll rebuild it it though I'll get a new one but take the old one apart to see what's what.

Good video and explained in detail!Keep it going!
What about cleaning the banjo bolts mesh filter?I know you checked oil flow to turbo but its good to clean the supply system to the turbo after having removed the whole lot.Its one of a major problem to these engines.
By the way you didn't fit the heat shields for some reason?

Dv6 engine prone to turbo failure change oil regardless of spec every 5k. These also have a gauze in the oil feed that clogs easy best to do away with it if changing oil regularly

Not a BSP thread. BSP is pipe thread which is measured in imperial units. They will be Metric threads. Hence the M in M8. 8 being the thread size in millimetres (i.e M8).
Nice video though. Would prefer seeing it done on a mk4 Golf though as I bought my Golf with an uprated turbo so never really got to see the ins and outs of my engine before.

you never mentioned 1 important thing.. and gave 1 bad bit of advice..
you never mentioned about it being recommended to remove the gore filter that is in the oil feed pipe to the turbo, As oil starvation is a common issue with these engines failing turbo's..
and one bad bit of advice you gave, was about cleaning the pipes of oil... maybe your not aware, But VNT turbo's are MEANT to get oil in the airboot from the filter to the turbo, This is why it joins onto the top of the engine too... VNT turbo's require a tiny bit of oil intake to lubricate the veins, Otherwise they stick and cause a horrible whiring noise...
    But overall, Good vid..
