- Two women are suing Apple claiming its AirTag devices were used by their former partners to track them. NBC News’ Niala Charles reports on how this isn't the first time concerns of using the device for stalking have come up.

Why don't we have more severe punishments for stalkers and more protections for victims? THAT'S what's ridiculous.
They gotta make it illegal to track people ,so then action could be tookem because they are tons of tracker devices like this

What disturbs me is that I don't have any apple products, so my phone will never tell me that it's tracking me.

@@infinite0Loop so the solution is to have Apple track your android phone to tell you if an apple tag is also tracking you. Sounds like Apple is just refusing to let anyone out of their database. And you personally are blaming people for not buying an iPhone like they deserve to be interfered with because they chose another brand. I wasn't aware Steve Jobs had risen from the dead and was scrolling through UA-cam but it was "nice" to talk to you.

At least Apple AirTags is the only tracking device that lets people know about being tracked. No other tracker has any such safety features.

Can't they work with Apple to see what account that Air Tag is linked to and work with authorities? As for the ex-bf situation, if it's not air tag, he can most likely find alternate ways to stalk her.

As a victim of AirTag stalking, Apple did NOT cooperate with my local law enforcement for my particular case. They only said that the tag was bought through Amazon and they didn't have any information on the owner. That response is a overly common one for Apple to provide as "cooperation". The tag has to be registered to an apple account in order to work, so it shouldn't matter where the purchase was made. Over a year later, I still don't know who planted the tag inside my vehicle.
What if you don't own a cell phone? How would you know if you were being tacked? Never mind 4 hours, you could be tracked all the time. What steps has Apple taken to protect people that do not own an Apple product?
There's two ways you can be rich in america.
1- start a business
2-sue a business
It's a classic move by corporations to blame others for the issues with their products instead of fixing the issue that they helped create.
Anyone who is being tracked and does not want to be should be able to disable the device, NOT have to put up with messages!

Here’s a simple idea that Apple could easily implement to make this issue a nonissue and that’s the moment a tracker sends an alert to your device that it is following you let it give you a option to select that yes it is your tracker and everything is ok or select that no it isn’t your tracker the tracker should be automatically disabled by Apple then. I’m sure there might be some issues for public transit folks possibly being notified about trackers that parents put in kids backpacks or whatever but that’s not the issue with these, it’s stalkers car thieves and other criminals misusing them
The problem with that is the stalker would know that you cancled it. prob leading to worse situations. If its been tracking you good chance it already knows your main loactions. the whole thing is scary for people but idk whats the fix tho. It isnt apple fault exactly.

Cool. So when the bike thief jacks my bike, is ALREADY going to be tipped off that he's on a tracked bike thanks to these stupid stories, he can now disable my airtag and make off with my bike AND my Airtag.

So these women are suing because they had an abusive, stalking boyfriends? How is that apples fault that they chose relationships with these deranged men? Why don’t they sue the men for abusing and stalking them?
Seriously? As a victim of airtag stalking, this is an ignorant and cruel statement. On top of that, if Apple would have cooperated with my local law enforcement, as they claim they will, I would know who did it and I would be able to pursue further legal action. But they DID NOT cooperate and over a year later, I still don't know who planted the tag in my vehicle.
Everyone trying to sue apple; Facebook, Samsung, google, FBI, Elon musk list goes on and on lol
So now woman will have to move their tiny pockets to the inside of their clothing and have purses that lock.... or men can learn to control themselves and not be so creepy!

Another example of why technology can be dangerous.....just because it seems like a good idea doesn't mean it should be available.
Apply the penal code as intended to deter actions of such kind. It’s wrong to go after the manufacturers when it’s the criminals who are the responsible party. Not a piece of technology. As an attorney and long active member of intelligence community these devices are a dime a dozen and have been around for decades. I just see this as a money grab and it rubs me the wrong way.
Enforce the laws on the books, or enhance the punishment for such. In this case “people” may or may not be punished in a satisfactory manner and thus the need change. If a criminal hit me with my car, can I sue “manufacturer x” because there was no automatic turn off switch?
This lawsuit needs to be thrown, and Apple need not take it seriously. Plaintiff should be ashamed in my opinion!!

Notice that they're suing Apple and not their stalkers? Especially when AirTags notify your phone if there's an unknown tag following you. Hmmm. Wonder why they sued the company.

That's a stupid logic. They notify only Apple Phone users. What if people have androids? Apple was beyond stupid not to make people register these tags with their identity so they can identify the person who stalks people.
It could be argued that Apple put these devices in the hands of criminals or facilitated criminal activity. Just discontinue them.
They just want to try to scam apple for $. 😆. This type of lawsuit works really well in the US. Could be a fortune 🤔. Thats why big corporations always use this type of excuses to raise their prices. Win win situation and in big favor for the corps.

Apple and other tracking device sellers should have background checks on at least the buyers before giving them these things. Or a background check on the person/phone that wants to use the tracking device. This would at least make it way harder for people to abuse. And serve as evidence for stalking and potentially help restrict said stalker from obtaining a firearm.
It should not be so difficult to do a background check since Apple would already have most of your data just to register the phone to begin with.

The answer is real simple: If you find a tracker on you: you take it to the cops, cops find the owner of the phone it's synced to, and that person gets busted. But how are you going to make sure someone isn't just screwing with you, like a jilted ex who already had a bad habit of snooping through your phone setting you up for stalking charges?
@@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing Let's say Apple requires background checks before pairing the air tag to that specific device and verifying that the person requesting the pairing is the actual user of the phone. That should at least require both people (defendant and accuser) to acknowledge that this airtag is being paired to that phone. Of course, this doesn't prevent said jilted ex from stealing the airtag just to screw the other person over. Apple system should then notify user that this certain airtag is no longer near the phone and then the user can then choose to report this airtag as missing. This notification system is already in effect since for example; my phone tells me when my ipad is no longer near the phone.
Apple can then try to say whether the reaction time between the notification being acknowledged and the person then reporting it as missing is too long or too short to qualify this airtag's use as a stalker's tool or just some bad accident.
All manufacturers are responsible for their products after sale. Americans are going to try and remove that
corporate responsibility for electronic high tech because Washington is spreading their surveillance society.
Just like gun makers can be held accountable for the horrible actions of people using their products, Apple can/should be held accountable for the same reason.

The product never should have been marketed. 2. What if the victim doesn't have a mobile phone? What if it's not turned on? What if it's not working right? What if she doesn't grasp the importance of the message? 3. It's sickening to think that Apple (and other makers of the same product) is co-operating with and enabling stalkers. 4. As for saying it's the fault of the purchasers, I could claim that if I sold cyanide on a street corner.

These devices are a mega infringement on personal security and privacy, they shouldn’t be sold. The only privacy left is in our heads.

I fear for my safety because my “stalker” is getting data from cellphone provider, how about that lawsuit? Or my internet provider collecting data or CTV at the local market? All would be frivolous lawsuits, much like the one at bar.
People are attacking Apple for a money grab. Tile has tracking, your phone tracks you and so forth. Bad people could gain access to gmail , or iCloud and track from there. Bad people do bad things and Apple nor any other company should not be liable for such.
I do question the smile on “plaintiff” face and must say that it really shows how happy she is, her eyes are radiating $ signs, with a big old grin on her face. Yet I doubt she will get a penny, other than paying Apples legal fees. Where was her lawyer anyways? Is she prose?
