    I have small solar fans for each nest box. They seam to enjoy them. I ordered them from Amazon.

    Totally agree. I had bantam hens and 1 rooster as a kid. Each morning we had 1 dead hen dragged to the feed room door inside the hen house. It's head pulled under the door and torn off. Finally caught the ring tail cat. Fit through openings as small as a medium mouse could fit. Predator proofing is essential.

    What's the gage of your wire? For my run I hesitate between 1/4 or 1/2.Thanks for this video.

      For a run I don’t worry as much, because my chickens aren’t there at night. I just use chicken wire or garden wire. For the coop I do use 1/2” usually but either is great!

    I feed my girls the pelleted layer food....is the equine bedding in pellet form? Do the chickens try to eat it?

      Hi! To me it’s like big grains of sand. So way smaller than pellets. My chickens do pick at it occasionally but I haven’t had any health scares from them doing so.

    What do you do if you find evidence of a predator starting to make progress or attempting to get into the run?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 роки тому

      Reinforce everything! I have lots of predator videos but you have the advantage of seeing where they TRIED to get in (and haven’t succeeded yet) so you can see their strategy. But work quickly, most will come back night after night. They’re persistent ❤️

    What breed is the black and white chicken?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 роки тому

      Hi! The bigger one is Lacie who is a silver laced Wyandotte; the one that’s more grey is Gracie a barred rock.

      @@realsimplemama thank you for replying I have one that looks just like her and I was wondering what breed she was. Also does she have hackles because mine has that but I’m not sure if she’s a cockerel.

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 роки тому

      No she doesn’t. Look for those long skinny “saddle feathers” or long curved tail feathers for a roo! And they’re hybrid meat/egg layers so keep an eye on them in summer, they’re more likely to get overheated. But she’s a talker and a cutie and I adore her! I actually have a playlist of breed specific videos so you can learn all about her if you wanted to go check it out :-)
