The first time I heard this song was on the school bus in 1984. I was 14 and loved this song and Billy Ocean's other songs. I sang this song so much, so much that Billy ended up telling me what was in my future. I married a woman from Trinidad, the same country that Billy's from. We're still together, going on 28 years, with three grown children. Thank you Billy!

This song represents what is so great about music from the '80's: Good, clean lyrics that make you smile and want to dance. The song gets stuck in your head and is never tired.
I dunno, the things that define 80's music is more to do with the gated reverb, usage of synths, saxophones, and a very strong hook. Clean lyrics aren't really specific to the 80's as previous decades had that too.

Mr Billy Ocean is one of the best singer of all time from the Caribbean...he brought the world so much wonderful sweet and lovely songs, he will never be forgotten.
I was at a Pennsylvania state-owned liquor store a few weeks ago which was built in 1974 and has never been remodeled… they still play music on cassettes from the 80's (or maybe even 70's) and it felt like I was back in time when this song started playing on the vintage 70's stereo speakers!
This was the JAM!!! Still sounds so good..boy could he sing, and he aged beautifully. I always loved the guitar hook and of course the sax is always nice.

It's August 2024 and it's been 40 years since this single was first released, marking the start of Billy Ocean's comeback and rise of his music career in the '80s after his 8-year US one-hit wonder of 1976, "Love Really Hurts Without You", and that song is no longer a US one-hit wonder thanks to this 1984 comeback hit. On the Billboard Hot 100, "Love Really Hurts Without You" is the only '70s hit of Billy Ocean on that chart which peaked at #22 marking it a one-hit wonder in the US for 8 years. In 1984, this song topped the Billboard Hot 100 as his second Hot 100 hit and first #1.
I swear in all my life, having a taste of good music and growing up in the 70's, up until today and almost 50 years old, I always thought the title of this song was 'African Queen'. Well, as an African maybe that's what I wanted it to be, but what the heck, I will sing it as African Queen. Thank you Mr Billy Ocean for the good music.
She tried to tame a Tiger but Never will a Tiger be Tamed in it's Habitat. Billy got me so many years back i can't remember but Jam of All Times. 👑. Blessed
80's songs always had such a wonderfully groovy feel and mood. Artists like Prince, Madonna, Huey Lewis, Billy Joel, Billy Ocean, Rod Stewart, etc. ... just awesome! 💪😎✌️
Excellent music that was pure and shall be played for many more years. Please do not allow anyone other singer to sing this song. Billy Ocean numero uno!
When I first heard this song in 1985, I was a teenager, and Billy was a grown man. These concepts lyrically were way beyond my comprehension. All I heard at the time was a rhythm and bass arrangement that mimicked "Billie Jean" and even had Vincent Price laughing in it. Now, as a 56-year-old man, I finally appreciate where he was going lyrically, and it changes my whole appreciation of the song. I love the line, "I was in search of a good time, just running my game. Love was the furthest, furthest from my mind." This dude was the first boss player from the '80s. LOL! 😂 He was serious, too, and the girls were eating this up.
Your dad knows and will always be with you. You wouldn't be the person you are today without him being apart of that equation. Now, let's go forth and listen to more cheesy music!😉😊😎
This song was on a cassette I got from collecting Weetabix tokens as a little girl. I’m still obsessed by this song 40 years later. Still have the cassette too!
I loved this song when i was growing up, but now this song gives so much more meaning. Its an Inspiration to everyone whole has lost someone, or something during their life.. Appreciate the little things in life through good and bad.. Never give up..
Franco, I like your posting. I too like this song. It reminds me of being a little girl, and listening to this song with my mom who has since passed away. I miss her lots, but hearing this song helps in its own way. God Bless you Franco!
What i could never have imagined is the pop charts are now a thing of the past. In the 80's in the UK, Sunday nights were spent religiously taping the UK top 40 as for while there it seemed like there was an all-time classic song released every week
Billy Ocean's always been an amazing artist I've been listening to him for years and I've always enjoyed everything that he's put out and next week in Melbourne Florida he's playing in a place called The King Center which is only two blocks from my house I'm seriously thinking about buying tickets for his performance
This is one of my all-time favorite songs! I absolutely love it! Billy Ocean is a wonderful artist! This song is a masterpiece. I don’t think that it gets any better! Real talk! Peace.

80's songs always had such a wonderfully groovy feel and mood. Artists like Prince, Madonna, Huey Lewis, Billy Joel, Billy Ocean, Rod Stewart, etc. ... just awesome! 💪😎✌️
you really forgot michael jackson 😭
david bowie and george michael as well, maybe you left out michael jackson on purpose because you believe the disgusting bullshit allegations 🙄
Youre right. 80s tracks kicks harder then a kick in the balls!!! 🔥🔥🔥

How did this song reach your ears for the first time?
Same as me now! 😂
So nice to hear this from a 20 year-old. Thanks for your post!
"Hoje em dia você so tem que ligar pro Billy Ocean e pedir pra ele cantar pra você"
I just saw Billy Ocean perform live last week. He still sounds great and puts on a terrific show. Thanks for all the awesome memories, Billy.
Excellent music that was pure and shall be played for many more years. Please do not allow anyone other singer to sing this song. Billy Ocean numero uno!

Best comment ever about You Tube.So true.

But we will never be able to see the future, only revisit the past
Hola Amaya buen gusto de música saludos
You got that right!!
I think Caribbean queen was a princess 😂😂 she looks young
The 1980s will be remembered as some of the coolest songs in history, and this one, stands among the best.
I finished building my time machine.Who would like to go back to the 80's and 90's with me?😊
I'd love to
💕

I want to go back 90's to see my dad.. i just want to say that i love him... This song remind me the old day when i was kid. 😭
80s music was everything man
Yeah people where classy and music was quality..
Yes Ma'am
And more....never be repeated
Still is
When I first heard this song in 1985, I was a teenager, and Billy was a grown man.
Quem disse que Billy Ocean não é bom?? Valeu Tonia!! 🤣🤣🤣
Kkkkkkkkkkk
Também lembrei da Tônia. Que bacana a sugestão da música para meu acervo. Voltei aos anos 80!
Tonia:Michael jackson roubou dele 😅a andadinha pra tras é do Billy ocean

Né mano? Nada mau essa música.. mas Michael Jackson ganha kskssksk
I was working at the 1984 Olympic’s in LA when this song came out. This was my jam!

Your dad knows and will always be with you. You wouldn't be the person you are today without him being apart of that equation. Now, let's go forth and listen to more cheesy music!😉😊😎
Yes unfortunately we need to take care of our parents as much as we could, as tomorrow never comes. It’s always today
I felt this post💜💯
Listening to this, remembering my dad i miss him too
This song was on a cassette I got from collecting Weetabix tokens as a little girl.
The 80's was by far the best decade for Pop Music ever.
Best for music and film
I agree!
What i could never have imagined is the pop charts are now a thing of the past. In the 80's in the UK, Sunday nights were spent religiously taping the UK top 40 as for while there it seemed like there was an all-time classic song released every week
So true ❤️
Guaranteed
I'm so happy we can go back and listen to these tunes. Most of todays music SUCKS!
Yep. Only a few good artists left

Billy Ocean's always been an amazing artist I've been listening to him for years and I've always enjoyed everything that he's put out and next week in Melbourne Florida he's playing in a place called The King Center which is only two blocks from my house I'm seriously thinking about buying tickets for his performance
This song is awesome.I also love his voice, rhythm and the saxophone.
