One of the best blues tunes ever recorded, what soul and feeling....my 7 year old great granddaughter loves the blues....she says "grandpa, play Muddy Waters"
Man I miss him. I remember old Beale street. The Daiquiri Works. Greasy pizza and the blues. Man, we don't know what we've lost. It's not what it was. Rum Boogie, Ruby Wilson.
I was in the Rum Boogie on Beale St. one night, knocking a few back while listening to Don McMinn and his house band. Don recognized someone walking in, and he stopped the song and handed his guitar to Little Jimmy and he flipped it over and proceeded to wear it out left handed. Literally, one of the most amazing shows I've ever saw. RIP, Little Jimmy King, thanks for blowing this guy's mind and giving me a memory I'll never forget.
i know him since 1994his phenomenal voice his playin his tune.....he is still in our heart...for long time i didn't know that he and éric and eugene were brothers....and this video is for me something unreal....albert king would be very proud...Boney Field as singer, when i discovered him ('in France,Paris,in 1997) made me reminding me Albert king and little Jimmy "manuel" king...brotherlyalex from Paris
Nogueira - lopes Alexandre most people don't understand Albert and it seems to me he took some Elmore James lucks and turned it into a deep understandable musical language that he used to tell complete stories with. Albert King is a language and the stories are nothing but blues.
🌷🌻🌷My brother and I saw him at Monterey Blues Festival years ago. We saw his Arena show, then saw him play the Garden Stage afterwards. We were lucky to meet him, and I got my picture taken with him. I bought several cds and they are still favorites. Such a shame to lose him so young😥he was so talented 💘
he was a throwback living in modern times. that is BEYOND authentic down to you don't know exactly what he's saying but you know what he means. angel of Murcy. yes lawd
The guy that came up with the term "Killin It" must have just watched this performance. When he walked out of the concert someone must have heard him say "Man, he was Killin It!" And that's how it started. Little Jimmy King was Killin It!
We grew up together a couple of streets apart. We called them Manny and Danny Gales, he has a twin brother and Manny became Little Jimmy King. His older brother Eugene was around my age and he started the guitar tradition and Eric was youngest and didn’t see him much. We grew up in Memphis, the Pine Hill neighborhood. They lived on Rosewood street.
His guitar style reminds of Stevie Ray Vaughn, I hear some Albert King in there too. Little Jimmy King killing it. They should call him Big Jimmy King because there's nothing little about this guys playing. I see where Eric Gales gets his guitar prowess, looks like it runs in the family.
Hung out with Jimmy and The King James Version on Beal Street for a couple nights back in the mid ‘90s. One of the best guitar slingers I’ve ever seen.
I was lucky enough to be in Memphis back in '99 or '00 and went into BB King's to catch Coco Montoya and sitting at a nearby table was Manuel, Eugene and their wives. I approached them to say hello and that I was a fan and had "Left Hand Brand" in my collection. They were all so incredibly nice and asked me to sit with them and chat for a while. I have a napkin signed by "Little Jimmy King" that I keep in the LHB jewel box. Was shocked when he passed but am thankful for such a sweet memory. Thanks Gales family.
This man was way ahead of his time. I accidently stumbled onto this video looking for some Albert King music and had never heard of Jimmy king. He straight blew my mind. I've never heard anyone come close to his style of playing although I do hear some Albert King in his style, which makes sense now that I know a little bit more about him. This eventually led me to Eric Gayles, who is also a blues beast. They really should make a movie about Jimmy King. You are the daughter of a Blues Master! Stay proud always. This video is legendary in my opinion. The purple suit, the red strat, and the jherri curl makes it all work:)
Felisa Gales You have a very talented family . Your uncle Eric is unreal . Do you play ? I know being around your uncles and dad it seems like it would be very tempting to pick up the guitar . Many blessings to you and your very talented family .
Respect. Im 65 and a blues lover .never heard of your PA. I love his voice and his playin for that time ,ground breaking. Where can i learn more about him ?
stray dog bluesman has the absolute right definition of this piece of music ! I played back in the 60's and fell in love with the blues and this makes it all worth while. To bad this young man checked into blues heavin to soon . But at least we have some small reminders of what it's really all abount. rip.
I first heard of Jimmy King a little after SRV passed and he was my favorite of all time. I always looked to people who played in old blues style but playing from the heart more than anything, Manuel Gales was definitely one of them ,my hats off to all the blues lovers and more so thanks so much for the posting of this gem of music that will forever give me what I need when I hear the blues.
Why do we always have to lose the best of the best? I don't think many understand just how talented this guy was. He had that undefinable 'magic trait' that only a lucky few are born with. He had the voice, the finger work, and the rare ability to express the emotion in every strum while live... Gives me the chills. SRV did the same
thank you Eric for re - mastering this. this was @ the center for the arts in Lou. Ky. @ a series of visiting professional musicians special, called "the lonesome pine special. i had been in Memphis that winter & your brother & i had made friends from 1989 down there as i would come down at least 4 to 5 times in the winter months to jam ah little & make friends a lot.we made plans to hook up at this event, but you surely know how that goes. but your brother being how he was, found me, nough said till we meet. except it was a great & very humble thing on your brothers part! actually, i think you are the only brother i haven't got to meet UN - fortunately. anyway, i hope to meet you the next time i come to Memphis, as this concert has a great story of your brother & me during the concert in 93. Memphis, your brothers, Beale st. & a lot of other musicians there hold some of my greatest memories. Peace, and may God Be with you all, Kent Myers
How can anyone not like this? LJK was absolutely incredible! One of the greatest guitarists that few ever heard of. He should have been a household name like BB King, SRV, Eric Clapton, and others. Gone too soon, but not forgotten!!
Jimmy will forever be a serious Dude! He was one of those select few guitarists who have a natural sense of feel and phrasing with inner-tone that came directly through his hands… But people should also remember his immense kindness!
That must have been really painful losing him unexpectedly, but his music lives on, and more and more people have come to find out just how talented he was. I know Eric misses him a lot as well. There is not a week goes by that I don't think about what could have been, if he and Eric could have gotten together and rocked the world ........... take care AT and stay safe
That's right Hubbie you are absolutely right, we played hundreds of gigs together for the 7 yrs. I was with Jimmy playing second guitar..remember those California tours every summer especially Monterey Blues Fest' and Lynn's raggedy bus..haha!!! But we never missed a gig..what great memories! love ya my friend Archie.
Archie. I play some of Emmanuel's songs. I'm still working on the solos. When your right handed with a standard guitar trying to copy someone that flips it upside down and backwards it changes the mechanics of what he did and I have to do to match his phrasing. This guy had it running through his veins. I don't get lost like Emmanuel when soloing but if I sometimes play something a little better than usual I can tell I did better because I don't remember what I did (that's when I get applause and complements). But if I think about it too much I get in the way of myself. Just let go and the Blues will do the rest. That's why Emmanuel was so good. It was in him and he didn't have a music college education getting in the way of some of the most emotional Electric Guitar Blues ever recorded. He just let go and let the Blues do the rest.
Yeah man. The sickest video ever seen by those big eyes. Crazy guitar style. He was the man, he was the man as Eric Gales is today. There is a smooth flavour of this man in Eric F*^^ng Gales, awesome this man as well, EG inspired to do my best on strings man.
What Cracking Mr. Eric Gale. I was a member of The Memphis Soul Survivor when we were playing on. Beal Street behind Daqurri Works. I miss that foul right there the baddest guitar I ever met. Shout out to my fellow bandmates and friends The late great Dr Melvin Lee R.I.P.!! Bass Cedric (The Cowboy ) McGory! Drum Archie (Hubbie) Turner Manule (Little Jimmy King) Gale. R.I.P. !!!!
I remember watching this "Lonesome Pine Special" show on tv years ago and it was my first time seeing Jimmy King. The entire show was great and besides his awesome guitar ability he was a great showman - dancing around and all that. This is one of the tracks from that show but I wish I could watch the whole thing. I can't find it. I didn't know that he passed and was very sad to hear that. I send my condolences to his family.
Phenomenally Gifted. A "Blues Brother" in earnest. The Genuine Article. Could play with ANYBODY, another Master only here for a minute to Engage, Inspire, and Uplift. Not to mention that his Band is scorchin tight. The Jam in Heaven is incredible. Peace.
Eric, I saw you and jimmy in Manara and in the studio sessions in Porto Alegre with Noronha...I will never forget that good times. Good luck for you and long life to the blues... Frank Franklin
Mmm..Love this. Never hear much of it anymore since my Grandparents passed. They used to play every weekend parties with so many stars from old Country to Country, which a lot of the jazzy Blue music actually fit in. Every weekend. Parties of music mostly, with famous people. Man I miss those weekends. Sometimes one of the Jazzy Blues Performers didn't sing, they just played their music. Only my Kate Mom and Her late brother seemed to totally sing jazzy blues lyrics or bluesy jazz lyrics really well. Mmmm. Hmmmm nice💕
thanks again Eric for loading this, I still have to watch it 3 or 4 times a year to believe just how good he was and how talented your entire family is. I saw Danuel with you when you came here for the concert at Zydeco, I hope to see Eugene again at some point. Big Daddy and Arthur in Birmingham say hey, and be well now, you and Ladonna
Dear Eric, thanks for posting this. Saw your show in Richmond. Wonderful. Thank you for playing at least one Hendrix song per set. You are the the Keeper of the Flame.

This right here is nine minutes and fifty nine seconds of some of the best blues ever put to video. A few million more views might do it some justice.
This is the greatest guitar player almost no one knows about. It's so terrible he is not still with us.
i know him since 1994his phenomenal voice his playin his tune.....he is still in our heart...for long time i didn't know that he and éric and eugene were brothers....and this video is for me something unreal....albert king would be very proud...Boney Field as singer, when i discovered him ('in France,Paris,in 1997) made me reminding me Albert king and little Jimmy "manuel" king...brotherlyalex from Paris
Nogueira - lopes Alexandre that's awesome, Stevie Ray wished he could play Albert like this guy. In his dreams... Hehe
albert king like JS Bach...God Father !!!
Nogueira - lopes Alexandre most people don't understand Albert and it seems to me he took some Elmore James lucks and turned it into a deep understandable musical language that he used to tell complete stories with. Albert King is a language and the stories are nothing but blues.
I was fortunate enough to see him at festival in Atlanta, Ga.in '93....he was amazing
🌷🌻🌷My brother and I saw him at Monterey Blues Festival years ago. We saw his Arena show, then saw him play the Garden Stage afterwards. We were lucky to meet him, and I got my picture taken with him. This guy right here inspired me to learn the blues. Little Jimmy was/is one of my greatest influences for guitar!
one of my favorite. huge guitarist.
RIP Little jimmy
This has me speechless. Nothing but the truth.
Wow, some spectacular stuff. The music Force is strong in the Gales family.
LITTLE JIMMY KING HAD AN AMAZING STYLE AND COULD HAVE GONE ON TO DO SOME GREAT THINGS HAD WE NOT LOST HIM SO SOON, WHAT A SHAME !
Luckily we still have his little brother Eric Gales!
YES BUT , AND ERIC IS AN AMAZING PLAYER BUT, COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STYLE OF PLAYER
BOB POULIN eric plays very similar...he picked up his brother rhythm...and goes forward...teday...
This is the performance that made me a fan
Hung out with Jimmy and The King James Version on Beal Street for a couple nights back in the mid ‘90s. One of the best guitar slingers I’ve ever seen.
*Little Jimmy King could bring it. Prodigious talent an a awesome bluesman❤🎸❤*
Great Bluesman, remenber Mr. Albert King 💪💪😊❤❤🌼🌼
I miss Jimmy. I used to hang out some with him almost every night on Beale when I played with Govan and the Boogie Blues Band back in '94 & ''95
I was lucky enough to be in Memphis back in '99 or '00 and went into BB King's to catch Coco Montoya and sitting at a nearby table was Manuel, Eugene and their wives. Rest In Power
I think I have this exact performance on videotape. My parents recorded it off of our local PBS affiliate in 1993.
Shit man, this man is crazy at doing this. he killed it. But we remember him at watching Eric Gales man. Shit. crazy playing.
First time hearing little Jimmy King, he gets down with the blues thank you very much
