You are the best teacher I have found on you tube! You explain things very well and take your time in showing the how and the why on projects. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
This is brilliant! Having found out that my eldest daughter is expecting her first baby , I followed your tutorial for crocheting granny squares . Then I followed yore tutorial for joining them together . Now I will make a border . Then I will have a beautiful baby blanket for my grand-daughter who will be born in April . Your tutorials are easy to follow and you are an excellent teacher . Thank-you . x
I can't say it enough. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Your tutorials are sooo helpful. I'm 46 and have been crocheting since I was 16. I only knew how to do sc & dc but when I found your UA-cam channel I have ventured out and made so many different stitches. You definitely are my go to girl. Again thank you sooo much!!! XOXOXOXO
I made my first spiral granny square blanket, I was desperate for a beautiful border. I found your videos! I was so happy! You're amazing tutorials are easy to follow I Crocheted along with just listening. Amazing!
I love you! You have no idea how many videos on borders I had to watch to see how to add more than one row of borders on a finished blanket! I'm subscribing! A million thanks!
You have helped me to revive an old love for crochet! My grandmother taught me years ago and after she passed I had a hard time keeping with it! But I've recently had the desire and now with your videos I'm having a blast getting back into the hobby! ! Thank you for bringing back the joy in crochet! !
Thank You Jayda,Since I have found you and watched your granny square lessons over and over my afghan is looking better and better. I'm making one for my grandson. Thanks to you I may actually finish before he goes to college. He now is in the 7th grade! LOL
thanks so much i finally finished my first granny blanket it was crazy, fun an my little daughter is s ready to cuddle with it. Once again you are beautiful teacher thanx for all the fun teaching i learned so much. Take care of u an your family.
Thanks for sharing Jada, im just beginning to crochet and i want to learn to do it the right way! A lil intimidating but i think watching this enough times will help guide me 🤞
So glad I found you! I'm following a written pattern for a GS pillow and wasn't sure if I was doing the border correctly. Your video helped me so much, thank you.
Thank you, Jayda. I know this is an older video, but still helpful and relevant. I made a continuous granny square afghan and the edges were very loose and flimsy. I searched for boarder videos and came across yours. I ended up using your single crochet border and it looks great and gives my edges the stability they needed. 🙂
I came over your video and i want to thank you for teaching me how to do boarders. I feel like i have a good friend teaching me how to crochet . Thanks and for sure i am subscribed looking forward for your videos. Thanks
Thank you Jayda! Love your video and teaching. Finished up my gorgeous granny square afghan now. I used the single crochet border and it looks lovely. My hubby is very proud of me because my afghan is to kit a king size bed lol! Thank you again
Awesome Job Jayda in showing these very easy borders! I have been following your videos for a while now. I learned how to make Granny Squares from you. I will continue to support and keep up with your videos. You really inspired me. Thank you so much.
So glad I found this video. You answered all questions I had about creating a border after seeing together my first granny square blanket. You make everything so clear. I have now subscribed. Look forward to watching some more of your tutorials. Thanks x
Thank you SOOO much! I have been looking for weeks for a simple tutorial like this! Most stopped after the first row. I needed to know how to continue it!! I appreciate it so much!
Hey Jayda, wonderful tutorial… I plan on making a granny square blanket for my son. I like using the single crochet as a joining. Also, I do 4 squares at a time.. seems a good way to end up w/even blocks!! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
I gotta tell ya ~ it still looks great with the Wool you chose for your Afghan! I wouldn't have known it had shrunk if you hadn't pointed it out! Thanks for the patterns! I love it! I must say I wasn't looking for my granny squares as I still have to stitch them all together. Would've been done a year ago except I went blind in one eye and it's taken me a New York Minute to get back on track! But now I have a gorgeous pattern to choose from, & I too just started Crocheting only 2 months before losing my vision! My goal was to make a Granny Square blanket and I'm so blessed I got to make the squares before my blindness. Now, after completing this one my NEXT Goal is: To make a 2'nd one!!
Thank you Jayda. I'm in the middle of finishing my Granny Square blanket and was not happy with my initial plan of boder. Thank you for a very helpful video
OMG!!! I love this!!! So easy to follow and you're lovely to listen to. I followed your Granny Square video and I now have a giant single Granny Square blanket on my bed. I only learned in January. I'm utterly hooked and love looking at new projects and buying wool. I've even taken over half my husband's den with all my crochet bits xx
Oh I bet he's pleased about that! LOL We have a similar situation in our home :) Every so often, hubby will open a cupboard and find yarn instead of the tools he was looking for.... ooops!
WOW! Thanks Jayda!! You answered my question so fast and I am almost done with my first blanket and my 11 year old son loves it and says "I cannot wait til you finish it and I grow up to give it to my children.".. lol. You are the best teacher, and the first blanket I am making is so what I envisioned thanks to you! Love your channel! Take Care and God Bless
thanks for this tutorial! I'm knitting a blanket and want to crochet a thick boarder of another color. This visual will help me and makes me think I can actually do this!
Again another great video, I'm working on a granny square afghan and I was trying to figure out what type of border to do. After watching I'm going with the single crochet I love the look of it.
crystal morrison Hi Crystal! Great choice :) The single crochet border also offers strength to the afghan over all, so all your hard work will last longer! Makes it easier to fold too, when you need to put the blankets away :)
Love your afghans!! Loved this tutorial, it helped me a lot. I couldn't figure out why my corners where messing up on the single crochet border I was putting in to many stitches!!!!! when ever I need help on a project I always log onto youtube and go straight to your channel first!! you have helped so much!! Thank you!! love all your work!!
Hello Jayda! 😀 Hope all is well. Thanks for this tutorial. You really helped me "frame my artwork" of a granny square afghan I made. Which by the way I learned from watching your "granny square" tutorial. Very informative. I always look forward to your videos! Thanks again!!
Jayda, thanks so much..I was looking for a simple border for my large granny squared blanket. This was my first attempt at a granny square :)) One more single crochet round :) xo~
Thank you so much for this easy to follow tutorial! I love how you show the different borders on completed projects. Now I can finish 2 afghans, one traditional granny square and one granny stitch on the diagonal. I felt like they were...ok..so so, but with the border it will give them a polished finish. Happy New Year to you!
Kristin Kraus Happy New Year to you too Kristin! I'm so glad you found our tutorial helpful! Nothing finishes a work of art quite like the right frame :)
Happy New Year Jayda! Hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. :) This tutorial is full of great granny square/granny border tips. I learned a lot from it so thanks again for another great tutorial!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I HAVE A GRANDBABY THAT I'M SPOILING AND MAKING HER EVERYTHING I CAN. I WILL DEFINITELY MAKE AN AFGHAN FOR HER SIMILAR TO THE ONE YOU'VE MADE AND USE YOUR METHOD FOR THE BORDERS.
Thanks Jayda, I'm excited to finish up my granny afgan so I can start another one. lol. I'll post a pic of my finished blanket to your FB page when I'm done with it. :*
Very good tutorial on borders.I've made afghans before with no borders and they never last as long or look as good as afghans with borders. Those are two very good ways to finish. Thanks, Jayda, and happy New Year!
Thanks Ali! I'm glad you found this video helpful :) You're right, afghans without borders tend to unravel or get sort of loose, I guess we should also think about borders as being 'protective' to all our hard work!
Thank you Jayda...finished putting my granny square throw together today & with this boarder it turned out wonderful, love all the colors, my Birthday is in 3 days and I've asked for yarn. 🎃👻
Love your.videos and you Demonstrate them well. I giggled when you said they were for demonstrative purposes. Different meaning all together. I hope you have a sense of humor, I'll keep watching your Demonstrations :~)
Finishing my first blanket! So excited since I just learned to crochet in March! Very simple half double crochet in a beautiful turquoise yarn. Now to put a border on it. This tutorial is perfect thanks! Is there a place to share a picture of my project?
Hi Angela, that's wonderful! You can share photos with us on Google+, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest (we’re at Jayda InStitches in all 4 locations!) Just be sure to tag me so we are sure to see it :)
Hi Jayda, i love the tutorial. I am crocheting my very first afghan, and the tutorial is very helpful for me when putting the boarders on the afghan. Thank you so much for posting ^_^
White is a great neutral and makes the overall blanket brighter. I have done that myself, because I felt the white was a nice frame to the busy squares 😊 If you'd like to see how that looks (at least for joining) check out this video here: ua-cam.com/video/zMG6ll5m25A/v-deo.html
OMG your hapiness makes me very happy too ! Happy new year ! We are waiting more and more ideas from you this year, just telling you ! Keep this mood Jayda ! Marialena :)

+natalie linton Hi Natalie! I did a tutorial on the black and white striped leg warmers a while back - check out my Videos page on the channel homepage and it should be there :)
Hi Ash, thank you! It still functions as a nice, cozy blanket, but that "shrinking" effect makes the whole thing feel a little bit like a fitted sheet * giggle *
Really simple! Love it! However I do come across the problem of them puckering up and when I try to add a single layer of squares around the four i connected, the whole project becomes ruffled and I constantly have to stretch them out at certain parts for it to be flat and look how I intended. THen the moment I pick it up and handle it regularly, the project becomes ruffled and puckered and unsquare. For example, I'll start adding a border somewhere in the middle of the edge of one of the squares after I connected them, and when I get to the middle between two squares where they connect, I notice the stitch lowers or sinks. I continue this and it'll look worse especially with single stitch. How does one overcome this unflat unsquare mess?? Thank you very much. I also should mention I was experimenting with this on some small sample squares, with three shells.
Hi Erik, the easiest way to join all your squares is to lay them out in the pattern you like, then join each square in a whole row, then join each row to the next row until the whole blanket is finished. That will help keep the puckering down. If that's already what you're doing, then you might also notice that square stitches don't line up with each other exactly, you have to keep one square a little bit ahead of the other to make the stitches line up for assembly, but they end up sitting even with each other in the end. I hope that helps!
Hi Jayda, Im making a baby afgan for a new grandson that should be here in about 3 weeks, I am using yarn spun baby's (very soft) that is a multi color of blues, greens and light yellows, that are in one spool. I hoping to make about 30 little granny squares then do a boarder around each square with a solid matching color, attach the squares, then do a boarder with another different matching color. My question is, if I am changing all of these colors will the afghan lose its softness do to all of the knots that will be tide into this piece. I love your tutorials and the way that you teach. Thank You. Jocelyn Martin
+JOCELYN MARTIN Hi Jocelyn, great question! If you fasten off your yarn the way I show, and leave a long tail that you can weave back and forth at least 3 times into each square, that will negate you having to make big knots and it won't unravel. The knots won't really show and they certainly won't be felt. If you're going to attach your squares using the whip stitch, tie your knots really tightly (they will wind up being very small) and they will tuck themselves in. I've made several baby blankets in many different ways and I haven't ever felt that there were too many knots or any uncomfortable bumps. And since you're using a nice soft, thin baby yarn, it should be just peachy :)
Those grannies were all joined using the sewing method (check out the description box of this tutorial for that video) and then I added the single crochet border to it :)
Hi Jayda! Love, love your videos! I've watched them over and over and feel confident enough to begin this project - a granny squared, bordered, Afghan blanket for my daughter who is a real smuggle bunny. I want to buy the yarn asap so could you give me a rough idea of how many balls of yarn I would need for a child sizes blanket? I will be using a UK 6 mm hook. Many thanks xx
MotherGoose Hi again MotherGoose! Hmmm, this is always a tough call, especially since everyone's stitching is a little different and yarn size varies greatly too. If you're using a worsted weight (4 ply) - and these vary too - then I suggest approximately 2000 g. This would ensure a good-sized blanket with enough yarn left to either sew or crochet the squares together and add a border. It's always better to have leftovers than not enough! Now, if you're using a skinnier yarn, you need less yarn. Skinny yarn goes further than thick yarn. And I think (but am not entirely sure) that double knit is skinnier than worsted weight...in general. Ever yarn manufacturer has a slightly different method and standard. However, give it a go and have fun!
I like to do a half double crochet border when I'm doing a solid border, because there's no confusion about whether or not the ch 2 at the beginning of a round counts as a stitch, and it's easy to see when I've reached the end of a round (because the stitch is a bit taller than a single crochet). I've also done plenty of "granny round" borders on afghans, too.
Hi Jayda, I have trouble with keeping my sides straight so I just crochet a big granny square but now I would like to crochet using the double stich and my question what can I do?
Hi Terry, you might want to practice making a small sampler first just so you can figure out where you're making errors (if you are at all!) You can try our simple double crochet tutorial and it will give you tips on turning to keep your edges straight :) ua-cam.com/video/tdbGB522lmI/v-deo.html
I used a 4mm hook to do a dk granny blanket. If I do a solid single crochet border could I use a 3.75mm hook or would using a 4mm make the border tighter anyway?
Hi! I generally recommend using the same hook size for borders as you did for the blanket unless your tension is wildly looser (use smaller hook) or really tight (use larger hook)
You are the best teacher I have found on you tube! You explain things very well and take your time in showing the how and the why on projects. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Vivi! We sure have a lot of videos!!

I really like the first blanket with that border it has. It's unique all its own
Jayda, you remind me so much of my cousin!
Would you recommend putting, say a white row around each square, then join in white and make white outside border .?
White is a great neutral and makes the overall blanket brighter. I have done that myself, because I felt the white was a nice frame to the busy squares 😊 If you'd like to see how that looks (at least for joining) check out this video here: ua-cam.com/video/zMG6ll5m25A/v-deo.html
OMG your hapiness makes me very happy too !

thank you jayda you are an amazing person and keep up the great videos!!!
Those are beautiful 😍
Hi Sheena! Sometimes the simplest patterns are just the right finish 😊
That wool boarder still looks pretty cool even though it felted. I honestly wouldn’t have known that was an accident if you hadn’t said something!
Very helpful tutorial Jayda. Thanks for sharing💙💚💛💜

Thank you so much help me very much ❤️
Hi Jayda, Im making a baby afgan for a new grandson that should be here in about 3 weeks, I am using yarn spun baby's (very soft) that is a multi color of blues, greens and light yellows, that are in one spool.
+Jayda InStitches Thank you Jayda, as always you are so much help. Love your tutorials. Jocelyn Martin
I believe boarders cleans upmthr project. I like to do.simple borders.
Me too, they can definitely hide all the little "errors" 😊
thank you sooooooo much I love this metod :)
Thank you for watching 😊
I love that bluish green afghan. That is so pretty. Can I get some help with that?
Can I ask what joining did you use on the green blanket..They are all lovely!
Hi Carole, I whip stitched (sewed) those squares together :)
absolutely fantastic
***** Thank you Gill!
What kind of border would you use for a straight granny stitch blanket? Thanks :)
Hi Karen, I just made a granny straight stitch blanket and I continued to use the shell stitch for the border :) It was really easy to work :)
