Pareidolia is the term for it- seeing or hearing patterns imposed on random noise. This is better than random noise, of course, but the sentence mixing can only go so far, and then your brain has to match the ambiguous sounds to what it expects to be there.

Texas Red came out with burgers, and he made them seem a treat.
But the Ranger wasn't fooled for he was promised his "Steamed Clams",
But the Outlaw had convinced him that he'd really said "Steamed Hams".

Wasn't long before the story was Outlined by Texas Red,
Seems that "Steamed Hams" is a bit of slang from the Outlaw's dialect.
So the Ranger took a bite and saw the Outlaw's foolish slip,
"It's grilled!" Out cried the ranger with the Big Iron on his hip.

Seems Texas Red was tired, he had such a busy day,
So the Ranger started leaving, 'bout to go out on his way.
Caught a glimpse into the kitchen, saw the flames and nearly flipped,
The situation spooked the Ranger with the Big iron on his hip.

"It's Aurora Borealis" said the Outlaw, desperately.
But this didn't quell the Ranger, now he wants to look and see.
Texas Red denied the question, and he went and took a trip,
