Circles Of Deceit (1995) 2/3 "Dark Secret" TV Crime Thriller (Dennis Waterman, Susan Jameson) SAS

- The second of three TV movies starring Dennis Waterman as former SAS man turned reluctant security agent, John Neil.
(The previous episode, "Sleeping Dogs" had a later release date than this one, but chronologically followed the pilot episode with Derek Jacobi - hence why I've placed them in this order.)
Can't recall any comment about these at the time, and they've been curiously neglected ever since. Yet Dark Secrets is a cracking thriller, competently plotted with an abundance of twists and surpries.
Neil is asked to monitor one of his former SAS colleagues, Jim Caine (Sean McGinley), whom the secret service suspect of involvement in a safety deposit box robbery.

After learning that Caine is using information from documents stolen in the robbery to commit blackmail, the service have deemed him a threat to national security, and Neil's task is to find out who he is blackmailing. Neil uses Caine's partner Kate (Kate Buffery) to gain a way in, and discovers that Caine's target is none other than Harry Summers (Corin Redgrave), an ambitious member of Parliament who has a history of run-ins with the security services.
Neil discovers that Summers' assistant Sarah Ellis (Holly Aird) has hired a South African hitman, Eugene Travis (Joe Montana) to target those who have become privy to the true identity of Summers' father, a wanted war criminal who eloped from Germany in 1949 and used false documents to obtain British citizenship. But before Neil can investigate further, he is ordered off the case by his superiors.

Love seeing Kate Buffery again. She was quite good in Wish Me Luck. Very convincing. A well chosen cast altogether.

I bought my boyfriend that exact tan suede jacket in about 1995. I can remember because we got married in 1997. He still has it!
This is a lift from the movie The Bank Job starring Jason Statham & David Suchet, where the team are unwittingly used by the Security Services to get incriminating photos out of a criminal's Safety Deposit Box. Statham's crew eventually find this evidence & use it to set up a deal with the Authorities.
Never heard of this mini-series at all - made in 1995 & now it's 2024.
Haven't seen that film, but take your word for it.
@@FoogouFilmsYou should. Apparently, it's a true story. The perosn of inteterest re' National Security was Princess Margerate. Lord Mountbatton was the key figure who guarunteed the pardons of those involved in the bank volt robbery that was by MI5 as the tool to get photos that documented her saucey lifestyle.
