I have prayed many Rosarys hunting and fishing. It truly teaches you about being in the presence of our Lord.
Best piece of advice I ever got was once you think you wanna move, stay 20 more minutes. Killed many turkeys in that 20 minutes. That advise was from you dale!
My rule of thumb has always been, if you want to leave, wait another hour. Works for turkey and duck hunting.
Worked for deer too for me 👍
I’ve got a duck hunting friend that has worn that out. Dude wants to sit through breakfast lunch dinner and snack 😂
Works for ice fishing too. Don't worry about coming home in the dark. Many times the bite picks up just in that last half hour. I was fishing perch the other day and everybody around me packed up and left. I wanted to, but I stuck around another half hour. Got a bite on my jig pole that turned out to be about a 4 lb northern. Just got a good look at him as I got him up to the hole and he dove down and cut my line. Oh, well. But I never would have had that fight if I'd quit too early.
I mean, that could go on forever though.
So far that's been a solid strategy, killed my first tom that way.
Such excellent advice. Beginning of your videos it shows you as a turkey educator. That is so true. With your advice I’ve killed more turkeys, and had no chances every single year. Thank you so much. I’m gonna make a promise to me and you to sit another 45 minutes. Thanks again.
I'm sure it means a lot to him ... he only excepts pinky promises
Always enjoy listening to the advice your willing to give. Patience Patience Patience is the name of the game.
Hit the nail on the head dale not gunna lie very accurate people just got to realize seeing and hearing are two different things!! Stay safe appreciate ya!!
Very good advice! I’ve been doing that for years and more like 2 hours and it’s amazing how many birds show up 3-4 hours after leaving the roost and you see them out of the corner of your eye strutting near you. Be patient and sit still and if you get enough experience, sometimes you hear one gobble and you just know that bird is coming. Gun up and don’t move. I’ve had many birds show up within 15 feet from my side or back. This guy speaks the truth. Pay attention if you’re new to hunting turkeys!
Lived in my house for 31 years and I see turkeys here and there but I had 24 hens, 2 Tom's in my yard the other day for the first time I know of, and I got to watch them for over an hour and I'm telling you they are in no hurry at all when everything is good. Took the Tom's 15 minutes to get up with the hens cause they couldn't stop strutting..no gobbling..just chillin with the ladies.
Mr Hatfield I commented on this episode that" you can't kill turkeys sitting on the couch"...please accept my humble apologies sir..as it seems you are the exception to this rule!
And can kill them while sitting on the couch
If you wanted!⚰️🦃🪦
Lol
This is so true. Staying has killed me a whole lot more turkeys than moving,
No truer words ever spoken. I know it for a fact because it happened to me many times when I first started turkey hunting. I learned to be patient and I killed more birds.
I agree Dale makes perfect sense. I've bumped many turkeys that way. I'll definitely hang alot longer this season.
I'll let cha know Bro.
Absolutely true. I guess divulging the well kept secret was bound to happen. I learned this years ago when a gobbler hung up about 9:AM and shut up about 9:30. I headed out for the 20 minutes trek to the truck at 10 only to hear him sound off several times from the spot I left.
I am going on my first hunt this April. I sure need the to be patient.
My favorite hunting guy online. Seans outdoors is good too. The guy is a Big time deer bowhunter. Turkey season fast approaching!!!!
100%. I have taken to sitting in one spot all day and calling more quietly and sporadically. The results are several really good late afternoon gobblers. And often times, they came in very hot.
That's has always been my plan. I have only 40 acres to hunt on. I wait the turkeys out, been very successful doing that.
great advise thats what hunting is all about you can never learn to much its like reading a book
A ole boy told me years ago the difference between a good hunt and a bad hunt is about five more minutes!!
Needed this reminder Dale. Thanks brother!
Going quiet drives the gobblers crazy. 👍
In the spring of 2019, I worked a gobbler for the better part of 4 hours. He'd gobble and get quiet over and over. Finally seen him coming and at about 35 yards I sent a load of 16ga #6 at him. He was just under 27 pounds...
That's the only way to hunt them in ark. Great advice, keep it comin, thanks
Mid morning the hens normally leave the gobblers, at least here in eastern Virginia they do. By the time the season opens here the boys are henned up off the roost and hens are already starting to nest. After the lady’s leave the gobbler often times he will come back to the spot he heard that “lonesome hen” this morning on the roost. Last two Turkeys I killed were at 1050 and 1145. They were henned up after fly down and came back looking for me. Dale is spot on. They both came in without gobbling. I never moved from initial set up spot. I have done this quite a bit through the years with success.
757 turkey birds ya hurdd
this happened to me this past weekend. I moved to soon, but i did sit still for 20 min after his last gobble. Being patient is the key, but sometimes hard to do. Especially when your trying to decide when the right time to move.
You are exactly right. I will try this this spring.
I watched a hen walk out in a field after a rainstorm to dry off. She yelped 3 times. I looked at my watch. A full 60 minutes later a tom stepped out and went right to that hen. I now sit at least an hour unless there is a really good reason to move.
Thanks for the great advice I’m sure this will help me!
I couldn’t agree with you more on having patience. I have had everything you talked about happen to me. But once you learn patience, you’ll start killing more turkey!!100%
Thanks to dales advice and videos, i literally had never hunted turkey let alone had anyone show me the ropes but managed to get birds in front of me consistently and killed my first tom first season this year. Hoping to fill my 4th season tag this weekend or next.
Great video. I wait 30-35 extra minutes, then move on. My wristwatch is my most important piece of tky hunting gear.
Every word you spoke is the absolute truth about turkey hunting. I have harvested more birds between 9:30 - 1:00 then any other times of day. Gotta love the morning warriors of the birds are done gobbling so it is time to go get breakfast.
Same here! A bird that fires up mid-morning is looking for new action, & he's much easier to harvest. 9 am to 1:00 pm can be very productive!
Great advice! Something that I definitely have to work on!
Sound wisdom!!🦃 knowledge +
Experience = wisdom
You gotta respect these birds. They aren’t the smartest animals we hunt but they’re good at avoiding predators and they outwait us repeatedly. They can stand stone still for 20 minutes looking for the caller. If they all ran in they’d be extinct and thank God they aren’t.
Thanks Dale
Great advice
Matt always has great knowledge
I once waited 12 hrs for Tom to come back to roost. I set a time of 5:00pm. He showed up 4:58 with some hens. Dead Bird !
Always great advice, Dale! Can’t wait for April to start chasing some gobblers here in WV!
Thank you,well said..will do!
100% the amount of times I’ve stood up turned around and there’s been turkeys silent behind me. Also have left to check other farms came back and see turkeys right in front of where I was sitting an hour ago
Yes sir ur right . Patience!
No matter what the game you're hunting --- every minute you spend hunting without seeing anything you will increase your chances of seeing something----
Erring pretty excited for turkey season
So true Brother, so true.
Hell yeah, raise hell praise Dale
I’ve heard so many contradictory tactics in regards to this. Some say wait an hour or two, and then move, especially early season. “Run and gun”
Everyone wants to be like Dave Owens today!..😂
I'm good at this because I hate getting up to walk again...lol
Your the best God bless you dale.
Great advice for everyone
Thank you !
Great advice!!
The heart break when a bird so fat he can hardly get off the ground, but he of course does! Silence got the best of me twice.
Yep been there n done that. Flushed gobbler leaving stand many times. Still ain’t learnt better. Lol
Yep!
Facts, I've killed a few birds I missed first thing the morning, I just stay there and wait an hour and call sparingly and a hour to a few hours later hell come back and end up on my back. If you miss one ,stay there and don't move, get quiet, and wait him out.more than likely he'll be back
Spot on.
Awesome video!
Turkey hunting is all about patience patience patience and more patience. Seems like the younger generation took the "run an gun" line literally.
My best Turkey hunts were run and gun if your know the patterns. But yeah this guy Is 100% correct
I agree, but unfortunately these days, we have to work so much to afford the land & equipment to be able to hunt, we don't have much of the luxury of being on "turkey time" 😄 (I liked that reference) as he put it. Nonetheless, I know, the turkey, deer, etc don't care about our problems, they do as they do. I haven't got a turkey yet, (am new to the hunting of them this year) but it's still pretty cool to hear & see they are on my land at times & that if I do get some time I may have an opportunity to get one. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that I don't normally get the time to sit for as long as I understand it could take, even though I wish I could. Please enjoy & appreciate the fact that you can. Take care, be well, & happy hunting!
Great common sense tips! New subscriber here enjoying the videos!
Look at the camera lense rather than look at the LCD.
Facts!!
Hey Dale
I'm a impatient hunter, or patient. I don't have a inbetween.
Charles DeRamus
Great advice. Late in the 2020 season I set up on a turkey that had been hunted hard all season. His first gobble was around 5:30. He and I had a short conversation before two hens went to him. Being late in the season, I thought they might leave him by around 10:00, so didn't call again until 10:00. He gobbled back west of me. We had another short conversation before he quit responding. I went silent. I didn't call again until 12:00 noon. He gobbled back south of me, only about 75 yards away but wouldn't come closer. I went silent again and decided to wait until 1:00 to call again. At 1:00 I called again but got no response. I decided to give him 30 more minutes. I was still where I originally set up to call. As I was gathering up my calls to leave the thought entered my mind that he might be close, but I convinced myself that was just wishful thinking. After standing up to leave he flushed, no more than 40 yards away.
I stayed with that turkey about 8 hours which is the longest I have ever stayed with one. I jokingly tell people I lacked only 15 seconds of patience necessary to kill this turkey. This is an extreme example; however, I agree 100% with Dale and having patience has helped me kill more turkeys.
I killed one one time that had busted me the day before and my buddy that same week. I set up next morning and didn't call at all. He gobbled at daylight once and two hours later he gobbled once 50 yards away. I took all the information I had and set up where I thought he might go and I was right, never made a call. Actually my first tom I stalked playing cat and mouse until I shot him in the face I didn't call that one. Then there's all the busted hunts..
GOoD Stuff thx!
100% bud
I can sit all day. If there aren't turkey in the area (there never is) then it doesn't matter.
You can't kill em on the couch...🦃🦃🦃
So what you're saying is.... he's cheating on his regular hens or you're trying to get him to. Let him tend to them and send them on... so he can sneak back at once his ladies have been tended to? Kinda... right?🙂
This is why geriatric hunters are so successful lol
TSS loads? Someone want to give me a loan to buy some? 😂😂
Young Turkey hunts watch to much tv they don't understand that someone else found the Turkeys that the host are killing
Well Well Well! This is great advice, "Set myself a sit time". Works like a Charm...UNLESS....a feller 'Nods Off'. Just 20 more minutes....Is that a turkey or just wind, maybe a deer? Nap takes over....."Dummmm dummmm dum dum...SHIT". DRUMING!!!! Jarred me out of my slumber, violently....I wonder who had a Gun mounted, string pull, Box Call on his gun....?🤷♂🤷♂ THIS GUY!!!! Tom was 10yrds behind me...and that Call made some BS Noises. Jolted term, doesnt do it justice! 🤦♂🤦♂ Did I mention 5 hours had elapsed? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂🤦♂I still hadnt shot a Tom by that day. 3 years trying.....what a way to mess up 🤣🤣 It has been 23 years now, still irks me!! Rumor has it..this Barrel Mounted Box Call, is still on Mobray Mountain Soddy Daisy, TN YEET!!!🤣🤣

I’ve found that if you hunt gobblers as if you don’t want to be found you’ll have better success.
Patience and less calling I will go 10 minutes 20 then call short series
