He killed four people and is allowed bail. What is wrong with this country? This is why people are so comfortable committing crimes.
$1M cash bail for a homeless man is the same as no bail. Bail is in the constitution. But I agree with you that they should just deny bail because he's a danger to society. But it doesn't matter because he can't afford the bail.

He has not aged well at all. Booze will age you quickly. 64 and his appearance tells us he’s a lifelong alcoholic. I came from a family of functioning alcohols and years of booze and smoking will take its toll with a vengeance. There’s just nothing I could say to help those families. The drunk driver is most likely driving at a higher rate of speed, hitting a object moving slower or not, at some weird angle, suddenly, that the victim cannot prepare for. Stop with the drunk going limp, relaxed etc. There is tension on a body when someone is drive, steering, or preparing for the crash. Drunks survive bc they have airbags! Victims have 5000lb of metal , at 60mph crushing their skin, bones, brain, etc. If I go limo fall out an airplane will I survive?

Something in my gut tells me this wasn't accidental. Judging by the video footage, it appears that he was directly aiming for that particular business given the rapid dead-straight ahead trajectory of the vehicle as it smashed into the nail salon. He likely knew it was owned and operated by Asians. Possible hate crime? Rest to peace to all the victims.

I wish every building was required to have those barriers installed outside to help prevent vehicles from being able to drive up inside them….like Walmart and other stores have. This kind of thing happens more often around the country than people realize. He should have to spend the rest of his life in prison for this.
Standing barriers at entrances should be required. Concrete wheel stops could have at least slowed down the vehicle as well.

At his age of 64 he would not have been old enough to go to Vietnam….when he turned 18 it was 1978…I don’t recall a war going on then. Not all veterans actually serve in battle….majority of the military members stay over in the US and do paperwork and other things. My dad was a meteorologist in the military…so he gave weather reports. My exhusband worked on making slide shows for the visiting Generals….they would have to constantly make slide shows about what projects they were working on and about the different testing of military equipment that was going on. The military isn’t all fighting….even many that went over for the Gulf War weren’t actually in battle….they had a lot doing computer work and you have cooks and cleaning staff and different things and they themselves never see battle. But as a veteran and even as a homeless person…he still knows what the law is and knows you don’t drink and drive because it puts others in danger…but he didn’t care about that. And I would also say that we don’t know for sure if this was actually intentional or not….he might have meant to do that…he sure aimed right for that place….went between parked vehicles perfectly too.
Same thing here in Canada…a family friend of us…a grandfather…and 3 babies…was killed by a repeat drunk driver in a collision….and sending 2 grandmothers in hospital…got bailed out and really didn’t get a jail time.

I was on a jury for a drunk driving case. No one was injured. The defendant was very persuasive. But I knew we had to find him guilty, because of the evidence. We didn't want to. But we need to stop these drunk drivers.

@@KuostA He had a good attorney who spun a sympathetic tale of why the defendant was too tired to drive etc plus the guy just seemed like a nice guy. "Persuasive" isn't really the right word. He just seemed like an ordinary guy who drank too much so he fell asleep at a red light. But there was a lot of evidence to prove he'd been drinking. Driving drunk just has to be unacceptable, but, as a juror, it doesn't feel good to doom someone, even though he actually doomed himself.
Geez, how did he even miss all of those parked cars? It's like he had to almost drive perfectly to hit the store.

I'm sure he gets a check, social security or something. But doesn't get enough to pay a mortgage, insurance, property taxes and live comfortably. Of course a severe drinking problem affects your finances too.
