There's something so cathartic, but also heart-wrenching, about Oushi's acceptance of both his and Itsuomi's feelings. On the topic of cultural sensitivity, I'd say it should work both ways. I understand that you should respect other people's cultures, especially when visiting another country, but Itsuomi is also Japanese, so he's also perfectly aware of how different his behavior is from typical Japanese behavior. With that in mind, I'd say that their differences mostly stem from their personalities rather than their cultural background (while they're highly intertwined).
