Thanks for this review. At last, a knowledgeable photographer who takes a practical approach to using the camera and gives straightforward information which people need in order to make an assessment. I’m not really bothered by gimmicks such as action pan or motion blur which I suspect I would use very occasionally but there was tons of practical, photographic knowledge of how the camera performs. By the way, coming from the UK, I was fascinated by the feel and look of ‘normal’ New York!
If I am not mistaken, the Action Pan mode is actually expecting you to hold still instead of panning. The AI will basically auto detect the main subject in the frame, isolate it and blur the background accordingly. Maybe this is the reason why your results were inconsistent. Anyways, thanks for this helpful video!
Thanks for the tip. I think you may be right. I was just doing the pan like how you would do it with a camera! I'll have to try holding still and seeing if it improves
@@azvisuals I tried both but I got better results if I panned with the device like you would with a real camera. I’m a photographer and videographer as well. Great work on the video! And thank you for the inspiration.
Action Pan's instructions say you can do either method. My results are usually better while panning as I would with a real camera while shooting objects, and better while holding still when shooting people.
Google should also make smartwatches as well to compete with Apple. That's the only reason I'd want to get an iPhone is to be able to use a iwatch. They have a perfect opportunity with more people getting the pixel 6 now that it's half decent.
I love this review format, always interested in the video and photo capability of the cameras and this inaction shooting and shots reveals are awesome! This video will definitely help you blow up. Keep it up Alex, really impressive camera indeed, actually contempating this over a couple portable options , hmm choices choices.

Out of about 20odd you tubers your the only one that gave a honest opinion and really new what he was talking about. Last week I received a S21fe as a present, and I know its had a few various reviews. After messing around I've found it's a decent phone🎗📸🇬🇧
Thank you Alex for a very professionally made and informative video. I use my phone a lot for photography, and despite the few downsides you mention, I intend to upgrade to a Pixel 6 in a few months.
Thank you for the excellent review. I am on the same boat as you in terms of what I'm looking for - I was dead set on getting the Pixel 6 because I don't want a huge phone, but your results with the telephoto lens is really swaying me towards tolerating the huge brick that is the pro. Really wish they gave us a compact version!
I have a feeling/hope that they'd launch compact versions as the 6A/6A pro. I've ordered the regular 6 because I shoot mostly landscape where I live in New Zealand and I know the size will grind my gear going from a Pixel 3. Also the sorta seafoam colour just got me some sorta way
I only bought the 6 pro a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. It's a nice upgrade from my old LG V30. I used to own a Google Nexus 6P, so it's nice to have Google's camera hardware and software back in my hands, again. I was looking for a photographer's review of the camera, so thank you.
Concerning the audio with the noisy background, did you know about the Speech Enhancement feature? Apparently reads your lips to help pick out your voice from everything else. Demonstrations have been very effective.
At 12:15 It looks like when you re-apply the background blur - it removes the original blur created during the shot and applies simpler more plain blur without that nice bokeh.
not used to comment on vids but i really really enjoy this one, it was literally like an live experience, the point of view camera did his job for sure congrats!
YES I notice that hollow feeling all the time. Personally, I like it, it makes it feel like I'm not tapping on a hard surface. It also sounds really nice when typing and there is no background noise around you.
Great bro. That's amazing. Social media is finally great now that Google is allowing third party apps like ig and snapchat to use the API. Thanks for the video
So glad you mentioned the glass, had this phone for a week and generally love it, but the glass has somehow managed to feel like there is nothing behind it. I have an I phone XE and Huawei P20 pro where the glass feels seamless and integral...just heavy, with the 6 pro the screen feels like its just hollow underneath.
Just a note. You can change how warm the display is in the display settings. I find that the "natural" setting is the coolest of the three. I think "adaptive" is the default.
1-2x and 4-8x aren't necessarily simple crop. Pixel 6 does pixel binning for both main and tele cameras down rezing both from 50 and 48mp to around 12mp. 2x on either camera is just 1:1 readout of the center of the sensor.
The display on my 6 Pro really doesnt seem hollow at all. Listening really carefully, I can hear and feel the tapping sensation change towards the center of the screen, but nothing noteworthy. Maybe visit a google store or tech dealer in your vicinity and check out other 6Ps, maybe the glueing between screen and glass is messed up on your device. Great Video with some awesome shots - i really love the 4x as well :-)
I spotted your video a little late otherwise I would have commented sooner. As a photographer, appreciate the work you put into the video. I take people like yourself much more seriously than the large mega channels like LMG and MrWhoseTheBoss. I can tell from how you describe composition, telephoto compression, negative and positive space in the frame as well as the limitations of computational photography that you are a real photographer. I have watched about two dozen UA-cam reviews while waiting for my pre-order to arrive. The one thing I've seen in common with the videos I've watched is knowing when to use the computational photography is as important as knowing when not to use it and go about it old school manual. It seems Google's portrait mode needs a lot of work and its computational photography has gotten overhyped to God level when it isn't. I would much prefer to shoot portraits using the tele manually in 4x mode instead of the software portrait mode with the fake bokeh. Then edit in post. Hopefully my preorder for the 6 Pro will arrive Monday. I am hoping this phone will reignite my interest again in photography. I haven't touched my DSLRs since 2019. This phone has my hope up since I often wish I had my big camera on me sometimes. Perhaps It will get me to pickup the large cameras again too.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment! For me, almost every phone works well enough and its the cameras that really separate one from another. Especially since I don't want to carry around a full frame camera and lens all the time yet still want to capture good quality images. That is why not having a pro mode on the pixels is really annoying for photographers and power users like us who want to use that creative freedom. But being able to shoot raw and edit in post helps a bit. Hopefully they can introduce a pro mode on the next generation devices.
@@azvisuals I'm trying to test my 3xl usage as I wait for my 6 pro to get a sense of it vs what my 6pro will be. I use a lot of camera so it may not be that different. We will see. That said, I thought 4+ hrs was a lot ok my p3
Keep in mind that it has 5000mAh battery, so the hardware for a good battery life is definitely there, they just need to optimise the new Tensor chip. Everything is new on the pixel 6, so the software will be playing catch-up the next 6 months.
@@Ebankz23 100% agree with this comment. I returned an ipad one time because it had that same hollow sound when tapping it. I'm surprised more reviewers aren't commenting on this!
Fantastic review, thanks for you work putting it together. I've got the P6 and the camera is amazing, so sharp and crisp. I do most of my editing in LR mobile and adjust the hdr as I see fit. Personally I think the wide angle is a bit soft and don't think I could print bigger than A4, however the main camera is epic. I've noticed on panoramics that it over saturates the colours though and it takes quite a bit of work to bring them back down to normal levels but I need to test it some more to be sure. Fwiw I'm getting 8 hours of screen on time and it gets better day by day as the pixel learns your usage.... It's going to get better with updates as the system grows. Nice one!
Thanks for the detailed photo and video review. Two questions: What camera were you using to capture you while you were using the Pixel (for example from 6:00 to 6:30)? 2. Can you vary the amount of motion blur, or does the Pixel decide and give you no way to adjust to your liking?
İm on koks and your video let me fly. Was so cool to watch. Have that pixel 6 pro and its an incredible feeling to use it. Something unic which feels so luxury. The display is awesome. İt makes so much fun to watch videos. Best android phone ive ever used.
Great Job on the video. Thanks!! I too have the 6 pro and I noticed the hollowness when interacting with the screen. I think it may be the sound it's making when you touch the screen because it seems fine when the phone is off.
Coming from a Samsung Note 10+ to the Pixel 6, I also noticed that the screen seems hollow when I type on the glass. It reminds me of the screen on an iPhone 7+ I had a few years ago. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the Pixel. I just miss the Face unlock, which was available on my Note.
Great job with the video Alex! Pixel 6 is a top performer but still needs camera improvement updates. Hoping that Google will release updates to make the camera better and probably they will as they have great update support for their older devices. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is another solid contender to tackle the Pixel. Would really love to see a comparison between these phones. Thanks again Alex :)
Thanks for watching! Yeah I think they are pretty good with software updates so fingers crossed. Unfortunately I don't have the vivo x70 so I can't make that comparison 🙁
Great review man. When I first started using the screen, I dunno if i would say it fellt hollow, but it just felt like my finger wasn't even moving on it, just felt like pressure on my finger tip. Its super smooth. I love the device, and knowing Google as I have had every single Pixel, I know they will refine the software and make it solid. I am going to do an entire photoshoot with just the device and on phone editing, so that should be fun.
@@azvisuals This was my very first impression when I took the phone out of the box. I think it's due to that hollow sound the screen produces when you tap it, as if the screen was not properly glued to the base, which happened once to my wife's Xiaomi. Thought this could be a defect on my Pixel, too! But now that it seems common, perhaps this is Victus soft-to-the-touch experience, which reminds me of resistive screens back in PDA era
A great and fare information video on the Pixel 6 Pro. I have the Pro vers and I know exactly what you mean about the brightness jumping in stages rather than a slow climb, I found it put me off taking some photos.
I have a pixel 6 pro and am also a photography enthusiast. I have had limited use playing with my pixel pro cameras but I agree with your review that the tele looks to be a gem. Hardware appears to be great but hard to tell with all of googles heavy handed processing. I agree with almost everything you mention and dedicated manual settings would be great. I havent tried editing a raw file yet. Regardless , I think the pixel pro camera software needs the following improvements...tone down the HDR , its too aggressive, a slider which allows you to reduce or turn off would be great. White balance indoors isnt very good and getting too much yellow under fluorescent. Also tried to take a photo of my TV and the camera couldnt handle it. Not something I do often but I wanted to share a pic of something I was watching and could not get the camera to get a decent shot at all, crazy colours green and purple. The camera simply could not meter the TV . All of my old phones managed this easily. Oh well keeping the phone, hopefully these are all software related issues that can be cleaned up.
Thanks Alex for your effort and that really good and informative in depht video, the Google Pixel 6 Pro will definitely be my next smartphone :-) Greetings from Germany
Great in-depth and comprehensive video. I agree about the warmth of the screen/a red tinge to it. I couldn't get rid of it in settings etc. Thanks for the video. peace.
Finally someone addressed the portrait mode that you can adjust the bokeh afterwarss just like in iPhone, all the video said the bokeh effect was strong and they didn't like it
I think having a depth sensor like the iPhone's LIDAR would've helped in portraits. And also I think Google is using the same computational algorithms on that 50MP sensor, as they would on the previous 12MP sensors. So if they refine the algorithm to suit the larger sensor, it would be perfect.
Great review Alex. Its pretty nice that you put your honest opinions out there based on your skillset. I have question though, would you say the Pixel 6 pro currently has overall a better camera system than the oneplus 9 pro?
Thanks for your support! I think the op9 pro and pixel 6 Pro are both top performers in terms of os snappiness and speed. The cameras are also similar in performance. However the op9 pro is missing that tele which is so good on the pixel. Op9 pro has manual controls vs more software features on pixel. It's really a toss up and I can't clearly recommend one over the other. Really depends on what you need!
Hi Alex, I think the telephoto camera was not used on low-light shots if you're using the 4x zoom, it's just the main camera cropped at 4x zoom. I tested this on my pixel 6 pro, found out telephoto on 4x zoom will only work if you're on a bright sunlight or in a well-lit room.
Yes, I have the same hollow experience while tapping on the screen. Sound is sometimes affected by this as well. It was funny you brought it. I thought it was just me.
Yess i love you, amazing coverage. Everything i want to know! From camera performance from someone who knows what hes doing to the social media functionality of the camera, thank you! :D Also, cant you turn of HDR+ in the camera settings? I know i can on my current pixel 3 XL :) Edit: I really never use portrait mode. Portrait shots on that 4x lens though, im planning to have some fun with that :D

Great work on the video! And thank you for the inspiration.
@@Pratagraph thanks for your feedback! Looking forward to your video!
Action Pan's instructions say you can do either method. My results are usually better while panning as I would with a real camera while shooting objects, and better while holding still when shooting people.
pixel needs a pro mode , so that it can totally utilize its hardware
Google should also make smartwatches as well to compete with Apple. That's the only reason I'd want to get an iPhone is to be able to use a iwatch. They have a perfect opportunity with more people getting the pixel 6 now that it's half decent.
@@averagebloke4474 They own Fitbit now, so only a matter of time
I love this review format, always interested in the video and photo capability of the cameras and this inaction shooting and shots reveals are awesome!
This video will definitely help you blow up. Keep it up Alex, really impressive camera indeed, actually contempating this over a couple portable options , hmm choices choices.
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah I think seeing the POV footage of using the device helps users visualize themselves in the scenario and shooting with it.
@@azvisuals absolutely, pov with the shots displayed is a fantastic idea, seen some other photographers do the approach but never with a phone!
The best pixel review. Thank you! Raw option is the best solution to avoid HDR in some pictures. Very useful for me.
Great point! Thanks for watching
Great video from a fellow photographer! I like how balanced it was
Nice! Thanks for your input
Out of about 20odd you tubers your the only one that gave a honest opinion and really new what he was talking about. Last week I received a S21fe as a present, and I know its had a few various reviews. After messing around I've found it's a decent phone🎗📸🇬🇧
S21fe is very good as well! Enjoy it
I absolutely enjoyed this review especially from a photographer's POV. You now have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!! Appreciate the support
I know right?? Bring back the compact flagships! But yeah that 4x impresses me every time
I have a feeling/hope that they'd launch compact versions as the 6A/6A pro.
I was thinking the same thing
im subscribing you make really good videos and know how to get the most out of phone cameras
thanks for watching! Appreciate it
I spent a lot of time practicing my action pans, and now my pixel 6 can do it with one one button and no thought. Lol
At 12:15 It looks like when you re-apply the background blur - it removes the original blur created during the shot and applies simpler more plain blur without that nice bokeh.
Good eye! I think once you set the new blur level, it will re-process the image
IIRC, for video, you can lock AF/AE by tapping on the focus point you want and then the little lock icon next to the sliders
not used to comment on vids but i really really enjoy this one, it was literally like an live experience, the point of view camera did his job for sure congrats!
You gave me lots of tips and useful opinions for my 6 Pro. Thanks for your hard work producing this excellent video.
Glad it was helpful!
YES I notice that hollow feeling all the time. Personally, I like it, it makes it feel like I'm not tapping on a hard surface. It also sounds really nice when typing and there is no background noise around you.
Best review of the cameras thus far Alex. One note is you can actually change the color temperature in System settings under Display
Great bro. That's amazing. Social media is finally great now that Google is allowing third party apps like ig and snapchat to use the API. Thanks for the video
Yeah! This is def a step in the right direction
Yeah how weird right? Thanks for watching!
I am loving the 6 pro! Upgraded from 2XL... Such a major improvement, I was waiting until the upgraded the camera
excellent review, and I was delighted to hear "everything looked really natural" instead of "real natural"
This is an excellent photographer review. I learned a lot about this phone. I am interested in purchasing this phone. Thank you for your show.
Great Video with some awesome shots - i really love the 4x as well :-)
Thanks! I'll have to visit the Google store and test out some other devices
Hopefully they can introduce a pro mode on the next generation devices.
fantastic review! I've got my 6 Pro pre-ordered and I'm super excited to shoot with the telephoto lens
When I hear four to five hours screen on time, my heart sinks because that's nearly as little as I get my Pixel 3 XL after owning it for 2 years
Wow that's pretty good for pixel 3 xl! My usage will be different from yours so don't be too disheartened
@@azvisuals I'm trying to test my 3xl usage as I wait for my 6 pro to get a sense of it vs what my 6pro will be. I use a lot of camera so it may not be that different. We will see. That said, I thought 4+ hrs was a lot ok my p3
@@JoshsBookishVoyage yeah that is a lot. I think 5g also drains battery more
@@azvisuals yeah I was going to turn that off.
Keep in mind that it has 5000mAh battery, so the hardware for a good battery life is definitely there, they just need to optimise the new Tensor chip.
Everything is new on the pixel 6, so the software will be playing catch-up the next 6 months.
This was super cool and exposed me to some of the techniques I can use with my new phone, thanks for this!
Appreciate the support! Thanks for watching
I read all the comments. This video and comments/responses by Alex were so helpful. Alex is thoughtful to respond to so many comments. Thank you Alex.
Haha than you man! I'm still trying to reply to everyone and answer questions. Will probably have to do a follow up video soon
I just received my Pixel 6 Pro. Loving it!
Best camera review ever seen, I also have the Google pixel 6 Pro best camera phone I ever had!
How have I not found your channel until now? Better late than never
Thanks for watching!
The Pixel 2xl also has that same hollow feel when you tap the screen. Like plastic.
Oh interesting. Didn't know that!
Google software support on the Pixel phones is fantastic. They will improve it more and more very rapid.
This was such a treat to watch. Thanks!
i’m picking up the pixel 6. great vid man!
Best review I've seen so far
Great video. Just pre ordered my pixel 6. This video was almost like a tutorial on how to take good photos. 😀
Nice review 👍
All time my favorite mobile
thanks for watching!
Great video! I'm also noticing the screen feels and sounds weird when tapping it. Like you said, as if it's hollow...very weird.
Yeah it is! I still can't get over it
Yes, that is one of the first things I noticed too. It feels hollow in the middle of the screen when tapping it. Makes it feel kind of cheap. Bummer.
Nice one!
Thanks for your feedback! That's really good SOT. Do you use 5g?
@@azvisuals yes, I'm in the UK.... I can't turn it off😂
Nice vid, really like it when you show both unedited and edited photos!
Thanks! Yeah I think it's important to see the files as is, and how it can look after editing
@@azvisuals No sweat. :) Looking forward to your other videos as well. Keep them comin', love your content :)
Super great rundown of the camera and video quality! Lol i need to get outside take some photos
The clouds over the buildings at begin of the Video (2:20) looks like a Dragon 😱😅
Nice Video and review 👌
Great eye! Thanks for watching
Yeah the screen is weird right? Hard to describe. But hopefully they will improve the device via software updates!
@@azvisuals Yeah, man. Me too. Cheers!
I feel the same with the hollowness you mentioned, its especially noticeable when phone is vibrating
Dug the video, thanks. Waiting for my P6 pro, can't wait.
Actually you can change the screen from looking this warm/vivid. You can go to the display > Colors > and choose "natural"
TT he garbage truck is an amazing shot!
I've Just found this Chanel, amazing videos bro, definitely subscribed
Appreciate the support! Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. peace.
Your opinion... Google Pixel 6 Pro or Sony Xperia PRO-I?
Thank you so much for finally giving us a fair Pixel 6 review video
Finally someone addressed the portrait mode that you can adjust the bokeh afterwarss just like in iPhone, all the video said the bokeh effect was strong and they didn't like it
I think having a depth sensor like the iPhone's LIDAR would've helped in portraits. And also I think Google is using the same computational algorithms on that 50MP sensor, as they would on the previous 12MP sensors. So if they refine the algorithm to suit the larger sensor, it would be perfect.
What a phenomenal review. As a photographer I appreciate the attention to detail in your explanations.
Great review Alex. Its pretty nice that you put your honest opinions out there based on your skillset. I have question though, would you say the Pixel 6 pro currently has overall a better camera system than the oneplus 9 pro?
Very Impressive Alex, In Depth Review.
Before buying P6P. I make sure to watch all videos regarding this phone.
And thanks for the camera review. ❤
Great video once again, it's so nice to see an actual photographer's perspective. So what do you prefer, OP9 Pro vs this, or any other phone cameras?
Yeah it doesn't switch to the 4x nearly as much as I would like
but awesome video
Yes, I have the same hollow experience while tapping on the screen. Sound is sometimes affected by this as well. It was funny you brought it. I thought it was just me.
Yess i love you, amazing coverage. Everything i want to know! From camera performance from someone who knows what hes doing to the social media functionality of the camera, thank you! :D Also, cant you turn of HDR+ in the camera settings? I know i can on my current pixel 3 XL :)
Edit: I really never use portrait mode. Portrait shots on that 4x lens though, im planning to have some fun with that :D
Thanks! Unfortunately portrait mode doesn't work on the 4x lens but it's still such a good lens that you can use it for portraits anyway
@@azvisuals yes exactly, and even if it did have portrait mode, i would use the 4x without it for portraits. Looks so good :)
As a LG V60 user I REALLY need manual controls. If I can get the Pixel and put LG's Manual Camera mode I would be all over this.
Man I wish LG still made phones :(
