Google Pixel 6 Pro vs Pixel 5 Camera Test: Better or Worse?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- As a part of my Google Pixel 6 Pro Camera review I wanted to do a Pixel 6 Pro vs Pixel 5 camera test to see if its actually worth upgrading to. I got alot of requests for the Pixel vs Pixel 6 Pro Camera Test Comparison so here it is! Is the Pixel 5 vs Pixel 6 camera a more fitting comparison because of the size and price? Good thing is the Pixel 6 camera is exactly the same quality besides the lack of a Telephoto camera. Do you think the Pixel 6 camera and Pixel 6 Pro camera have enough for you to upgrade?

Does the Google Pixel 6 Pro Camera have enough for you to upgrade? Did Google regain the best camera status in 2021?
Any chance you could check something on your 6 Pro for me? I seem to be getting some crazy lens flairs on my 6 Pro, especially at night, on the wide and ultrawide sensors, especially getting long streaks of light coming from the light source. Do you see this at all?
Do you think more updates required for the new chip and it can be better in few months have seen one plus make drastic change with updates
As an owner of the pixel 2,3,4 & 5 I honestly expected a little more from the Pixel 6 Pro. As well as better battery life then what people are getting (i was shocked at what MKBHD said he was getting for battery) and lastly the video isnt quite good enough for me. I own a business where i use the video on my phone a ton and that was a huge miss for me. All that being said I am getting my first iPhone today (iphone 13 pro 256gb) and hope to achieve a ton of what the pixel pro was lacking while still holding out hope that one day the pixel 7 or 8 really brings the heat where there is no denying that its the best.
Just... On the video improvement alone and the ability to zoom further. Just wish there was a smaller pro version.
Amazing content Danny, is the Pixel 6 better than its predecessor..nothing more relevant than that🔥🔥
Danny be doing phone camera reviews while flexing that he always at disney lol
hahhahahaha
He lives there basically 😂

How to visit Disney and make the whole trip a business write-off:
Lol
This won't be classified as a business write-off. To qualify he would need to conduct business with another associate, he would also need to have paid for the business associates expenses, and not be in his home town.
Bingoooo. Phones are write off and Disney tickets are write off. Masterclass 👏🏿👏🏿
Danny is always one of the best when it comes to phone camera reviews, can really explain every improvement and describe how each camera look and behave, salute to you
You know why Danny's kids are happy when a flagship is released?
They get to go Disney
The 6 camera is so great. But when I see this comparison, I don't really regret for having bought the Pixel 5 recently instead of 6 (because the 6 is a little too big for my preference). The 5 still holds up very well.
I want the 6, but I agree it is too big and I don't know how I would handle it
We just received our 6 Pros 2 days ago, me coming from the Pixel 4XL, my wife coming from the Pixel 5. And she is about to return it as it is too big for her taste.
Whilst waiting for my 6pro thought I'd pop to the local store to see if they had it in. It's absolutely huge and slippery to hold! Especially coming from the pixel 5...
@@rcbmulder got my case yesterday, brought that slippery feeling down by 100% 😉
Yeah. It's almost like switching over to a Samsung. I still use my 5 and have been testing the 6. 5's a much smaller phone. Camera is actually very very similar. So It's a little disappointing in my opinion. No reason to upgrade from the 5. I only did it because I cracked my 5 phone screen.
Finally!
The comparison that we all have been waiting for.
Great work mate🔥
Oh my gosh, I was just at Disneyland/Cali Adventures this past weekend. Didn't have my 6pro with me since it hadn't arrived yet, but it's cool to see the shots you got on that device there. It's the perfect place to test cameras. I did run into someone in line for the Buzz Lightyear ride who had a 6pro on hand though. Anyway, thanks for another great photo comparison!
Great video, Danny. What I've noticed that there's a huge flaring in night pictures from well lit objects on P6, some so huge that covers half of the picture.
You can see it in the direct sunlight picture.
Thanks for this test. It is really great. I'm upgrading from the Pixel 4 XL and it just have been shipped today.
Danny..You are always awesome.I love the way you talk and explain🥰
Nice comparisons. In this comparison especially I can tell I'm not going to be blown away from pictures on my 6 vs my current 4a5g unless I use the zoom lens...which was the reason I wanted the 6 Pro the most (besides the new chip).
Amazing work Danny! 🤘🏼🔝
Excellent selection of comparison shots. Very helpful vid.
YOU ARE THE MAN. Needed this info FOR my next Disney Trip! THANK YOU!
By far the BEST camera review! Thank you so much for the time spent covering every aspect between the two.
Thank you. Great comparison. You got to the key points quickly.
I think what's going on with the 6 pros portrait is that since Google isn't used to shooting with such large sensors, they applied the same (or at least similar) algorithm and combining that with the natural depth of field, it gets super aggressive compared to the 12mp sensors
I appreciate the detail and nuance in your camera reviews. Good shit.
Your analasys of the 6 pro's improvments over the 5 is just on point
Great video and in depth look
You earned a new sub :)
Thanks so much! The best, most informative comparisons!
You know Danny, I am an average picture snapper and I thought a lot of those pictures were really close. Great video thank you.
Another reviewer looked closely at the video between the two, and at night the noise improvement is the most obvious. But even in the day, there was a clear reduction in grain from the 5 to the 6 which was more subtle. The grain, even in day time, on my P3 XL has been one of the worst things about it. I'm really excited for the improvement even if it is moderate.
Yeah it’s just way better period for video. You are going to see a MAJOR difference coming from 3XL
@@dannywinget my wife wanted a Pixel 5 but the Pixel 6 dropped at the same price. The phone will be much bigger and heavier than she wanted coming from a Pixel 3 but she'll forgive it for the camera I'm sure. I'm not one to post photos places, only really taking them casually for documenting stuff (food etc) and therefore I'm not opting for the severely tempting Pixel 6 Pro. My £699 2 year old Oneplus 7T Pro is still going strong. Previous Pixel devices have made me itch to switch within 18 months but this first (and last) Oneplus device has been solid. My next phone is likely to be next year's Pixel. It's so tempting to go for the 6 Pro but the 7T Pro is still so strong in pretty much everything bar cameras (and not fussed about the lack of 5G yet), that I can't justify shelling out on the Pixel 6 Pro. But as a fan of the Nexus 6P the latest Pixel phones give me the same vibe and it's an exciting time to be an Android user.
@@TheChiraagG Hi there. I also have the OnePlus 7T Pro and dabbled with the idea of upgrading to the Pixel 6/6 Pro. But I've decided against it as the 7T Pro is still holding up (I love the all display screen!), plus I'm put off by the Pixel 6's battery which I've heard isn't great. Also I'm disappointed that the Pixel 6 is just 90hz - that is a big mistake and I'm really surprised reviewers aren't pointing it. So many budget phones (around the £300 price) even have 120hz screens, so I don't want my OP 7T Pro upgrade to be from one 90hz screen to another 90hz screen. Finally, here in the UK, the price of the Pixels is much higher than the US price which is also off-putting. So I'm going to wait one more year.
@@TheChiraagG hi for how long have your wife had the pixel3? I bougut it in aug 2019, still great, but i have to charhe it twice in a day. Very annoying! I don't know if this will last 6months+, is very tempting to buy this new pixel!
@@cpaps8500 The fact I don't use the selfie camera much means I value the full display more than I would an instant selife camera. And the pop up isn't slow when needed, but noisy and a bit of an annoying angle when on video calls in landscape (always looks like you're looking elsewhere if you look directly at someone on the screen!). But yeah it's not worth the upgrade yet when I already have 8GB RAM and a 90Hz screen, plus double the storage and I only paid £100 more - TWO years ago!
Awesome review Danny, keep it up
NIce improvement. You can also see the default bokeh affect from the pixel 6 pro.
5:37 SEE, look at that, how amazing does that look? 10 times better than any portrait mode from any brand in my opinion :) good job!
iPhone 13 pro is wayyyy better
@@cypher3323 vs the 4x Natural portrait shots? Not even close lmao 😂
Yeah, it looks way better. Not sure why the pixel 6 doesn't just default to using the telephoto for portraits in the first place like most other phones with a telephoto lens. Maybe because it's 4x and they think people won't want to back up that much? Even though that would be a silly reason not to use it anyway. But this is WAY better than using the built in portrait mode that crops in 2x on the main sensor.
Agreed. The 4x portaits are great. No portrait fake mode needed.
That 4x should be roughly a 104mm equivalent which is a damn fine port focal length. Nikon's magical 70-105mm is THE defacto port lens on their full frame devices. 👍🏼
I love your reviews man. Respect your work 🙌🙌🙌
Damn the night video improvements are unreal!
This is why u r the best reviewer in UA-cam.. Solid comparison
Thanks for the tip on the 4x telephoto portrait. I like that shot better than any of the portrait mode shots I have seen.
9:22 Thanks for showing this, that's ridiculous. I really hate the long exposure time of previous Pixel phones like the Pixel 3a (often slightly blurry images due to an exposure time of 1/3s-1s per frame, total exposure time up to nearly 7 seconds) and I expected that they would make Night Sight much faster (and with a shorter exposure time per frame) because the 6 Pro captures nearly three times as much light per time as the Pixel 3! They should make Night Sight take as long as the HDR+ On mode of the Google Nexus 5x, which took up to 2 seconds. The HDR+ On mode of the Nexus 5x and in particular the HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3a were nothing else than fast Night Sight modes. HDR+ enhanced usually takes up to 3 seconds (if you don't zoom) and chooses an exposure time of up to 1/5s per frame, I never get blurry images with HDR+ enhanced, that's why I nearly never use Night Sight, but HDR+ enhanced (Pixel 4/5/6 don't have HDR+ enhanced).
Love to see a 4XL vs 6 Pro as both have dedicated chips for photos and think that will be a common upgrade over a 5 to a 6 Pro. Great video as always!
I'm waiting for that too. I am in pixel 4 XL.
Keep your 4 guys. I had one and wish I'd kept it
@@dennisjohnston7967 I've kept my 4XL and got a 13 Pro Max. I often carry both. Looking at all the issues with the 6 lineup so far think that was the right choice (though it usually takes Google until near the next pixel to sort the current one so sure 6 will be amazing in few months).
Wow this review is amazing and it shows you put in hard work. Wow thank you
Great review... as an iPhone 13Pro user, I was taking a hard look at the Pixel6Pro...mostly due to the fantastic software integration... and yes, longer zoom the my phone, think I'll hold off, await the iPhone 14
I love how every UA-camr praises stuff until it's 1 year old then they say it's unstable and horrible and you need the new one lol.
Exactly it's getting old and this is why I sub to small tech UA-camrs they're more honest and don't have much to lose🤷🏽
Alright, alright, I'll freaking subscribe. Really great content dude 👍
Thank you, Danny for awesome compassion!
Amazing comparision video.
Without pixel peepinh. I would say the pixel 5 is pretty much neck in neck with the 6 pro/
ikr? i prefer the muted look of pixel 5, i was about to buy it and i didn’t, now i regret
Just received my pixel 6 today! Never been this excited about a phone in years!
Great review 👌
Bro man, you are THE DEFINITIVE EXPERT with camera comparisons! I always know I what I can expect when I come here. Going to get the 6 Pro as an upgrade from the 4a5g, your video helps to make that decision easier.
Appreciate that! I think you will love it.
@@dannywinget Yep! Now if I could actually order one from Google.... lol!
In all of UA-cam your camera comparisons are the best
Thanks for the review, Danny! Looks like you were in my town of Winter Garden. I notice you take a lot of your video when there's not a lot of people. What time is this because I don't see Plant street that empty unless it's really late. :)
I thought with the new 50MP camera, there would be night and day difference. But no.
Videos from pixel 6 are so good, please record more, we need that
That video upgrade is insane. FINALLY!
Thank you so much for this video
Very nice comparison. Very very little to choose between the two cameras apart from night video and extended zoom capability. Elsewhere, the marginal often minuscule differences are only apparent on close comparison inspection and would be meaningless in normal usage. Given the substantial price difference between the pro and pixel 5 and more so with the 5a, unless night video and the extra zoom are crucial, an upgrade to the 6 Pro doesn't make enormous sense and the regular 6 is likely to be a more logical option if at all. (Per Danny's last year comparison with the Galaxy s20fe, this phone's camera equals and sometimes exceeds the 5 in a range of areas, including optical zoom and video performance and has been radically reduced in price, so makes the most sense of all. )
This is such a good review, thank you. As a Pixel 5 user with nagging thoughts of upgrading to the Pixel 6, I admit I started listening to the review with pitchforks ready. However, I love that you have shown here that despite the pixel 6 being overall better, the predecessor is not really so bad in comparison. Given that I'm an artist, and I actually do want to use photos magnified, I can see myself upgrading nonetheless but for the average user, this is very reassuring for those of us who stay with the Pixel 5. Especially if the use case scenario is that of an average, everyday user.
I am glad it helped!
What's funny is I had this in my watch later feed... then I just watched Unlockr's Travel Vlog video test of the 6 vs 5 vs S21 vs i13 and I kept legit picking the Pixel 5 shots (just for stills, don't get me wrong) almost every time. It was so well dialed in. This is ok though in my book, because it gives me hope for what the 6 could be after it's had some time. I know Google had some serious pressure getting this thing out the door on time. It's only a brand new sensor, new-ish chipset design, substantial new OS update and lens configuration oh all the while during the biggest global pandemic and shortages in centuries. Pretty sure there's plenty of room for further improvement is what I'm saying.
FINALLY they’ve improved video recording quality! It looks so much better now.
I've seen other reviews - but this one was the best job at comparing with actual shots. I'm going to stick with the 5 because I just bought it last May. I mostly use it for photos - don't shoot a ton of video, either.
Thanks Danny! Could you also do a comparison between the Google Pixel 5, Oneplus 9 pro, S21 and Iphone 12 Pro Max?
Excellent in depth video Dan. I'm loving my pixel 6 Pro. I don't get why a few you tubers are giving it a hard time. We've not had one update as yet and I'm sure a couple of small niggles will be sorted out pretty soon. I just love the audio to text function makes texting so simple. And the daytime pictures I've done so far are the best I've seen on any camera. Just loving it 😁
The camera will almost certainly get much better but they can’t judge based on future updates. They have to judge the product being sold now.
@@DanielLoganGames agreed.
How's your battery life? Any overheating issue? My pixel 6 pro doesn't come till January 2022... it's driving me crazy seeing everyone getting theirs already
@@IronCan88 I haven't had any over heating problems as yet but I'm not a gamer. So I'm not pushing it too hard. I got the 256gb version. I'm really enjoying it. Far better than the Samsung s20 I had. To be fair I rated the redmi note 10 Pro over that phone too!. But yes the pixel 6 Pro is great. Just not keen on the finger print scanner. It's a bit naff. I hope they add face scan at a later date. But not found any faults up to now and getting well over a day with a full charge.
Danny, as good as always. Can you please help me to make a choice between mi 11 ultra, s21 ultra and pixel 6pro? Which one should I go for as far as
Raw power and camera performance are concerned?
The 5a is just as good as the 5. So at $900 vs $450 I think the 5a is still really hard to beat.
Not If you consider the extra bose Headphones Deal basically bringing the Pixel 6 regular also to 450 euro
@@Coli272 pixel didn't give bose speakers to us buyers with with 6. They included their pixel a series buds
That phone is impossible to get for anyone outside of the US and Japan
5a is a complete waste of money right now. Just get a 6/6Pro.
4:27 another weird software decision here, the Pixel 6 clearly didn't switch to the dedicated zoom camera. Look at the difference when it jumps to the 10x. Super weird behavior. The 10x at 4:35 is way sharper than the 4x shot
Sup Mister Winget and everyone awesome video I would like to see a comparison of the Samsung Galaxy a52 vs another low budget phone to see how well they perform and how well the camera works
Hey local, you should try shooting some pics and vids over at Tibet-Butler Preserve. Especially right when it first opens, or right before it closes on the trail.
Got my 6 pro this morning...upgrading from my pixel 4...
Quite disappointed to be honest , but hope things will improve with software updates..
Hi Danny,
Is it possible for me to get a look at some of the raws? Curious what they can do
I understand this may be asking a lot but it would be great to add in the comparison between these phones and an iPhone 13/13Pro.
Appreciate your work 👍
What about the lens flare? It seems extremely pronounced on the Pixel 6 Pro. I'm so torn on whether to upgrade from my Pixel 5 because of this and other factors.
Thanks!
does the 6 pro offer the ability to reduce saturation on video shooting?
Heey do a comparison video between the front camera on the pixel 6 vs pixel 6pro, I really want to know if it's worth it the upgrade ...
look at how far we've come for people to say that the stabilization on the 5 is "terrible". it's very far from terrible, when no video recording device on the market could come close to that just 4-5 years ago
Broooo nice camera review, plz do vivo x 70 pro camera comparison plz plz plz
I've started doing a lot of things on the photography side. I had to have the pro. How it gets skin tones correct/more true to life saves time in post. Improvements are marginal evey year. Never huge, people expectations be unreal
Let's not forget that the pixel 6pro is gonna get some updates for the camera software and that will fix some of the bugs for sure.. I like that you keep comparing the pictures to the real world objects and colors cuz that gives me an idea of which phone is giving the real results...
Danny, can you please do a camera comparison of Pixel 6 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro Plus vs Mi 11 ultra vs S21 Ultra? I can't choose
good video, what a pity that the difference of the 6 pro is not so much with the 5 and that it uses larger sensors. I think that in the 6 pro software photography is not used, which Google does so well
Been waiting looking for this.
The Pixel 5 is a good deal
Not at it's current prices.. And I don't think it was even on release. Should be about $300 USD based on it's specs and performance now.. The 6 isn't much more expensive.
The voice isolation on 6 is amazing.
thanks, subscribed.. ! I got the pro and am well chuffed with it so far, it's not too big as I had been afraid of coming from iPhone se 2020, and it's lovely and light too. I just made the mistake of not researching beforehand how to export WhatsApp chats from iPhone, so I missed my window of opportunity to do so immediately out of the box. I tried factory resetting but phone said "no" :-D
IMO once you get into upper echelons there's more variability per shot than there is between cameras. The exception is optical zoom, but that's more about price than technical differentiation. More money-->more to spend on telephoto lens system.
Mkbhd made a great point that the hardware in Google's phone is currently held back by the software. As they update over time hopefully the camera gets improvements
Well at least we have good camera hardware now. We just have to wait for google to improve the camera with each update.
It's the too long exposure time of Night Sight. Night Sight shouldn't take longer than 2 seconds and shouldn't use a longer exposure time per frame than 1/5s.
Hopefully sorted for the pixel 7 then...
@@rosssetter its gonna be sorted in a month or two. Android beta 12 was an absolute mess (cost me my previous phone) and google knows software is not ready, hence their strict embargo rules. Pixels shipped yesterday are already coming with a large day 1 update.
WDW local here thinking of switching before my Disney Paris trip. The selfie cam is the main reason I may switch. 6 looks far better than 5 but not as wide as Pixel 3.
Vedeo on pixel 6 has improved so much
I sent my 6p back within an hour of it being delivered, i was so hyped up for this phone. As I've always had pixels, and felt let down by the camera for pictures. I took some pictures of some figures i have the gave them a halo around them i also didnt like that the whole figure wasnt in focus when you looked at its legs, i took the same shots using a p2xl and 11 pro Max they both looked better. Obviously when I zoomed in close you could see the 6p had more details but nothing you would notice unless you zoomed in pixel peeping. I also took pictures of a post while the centre of the poster was sharp the writing at the bottom wasn't. Again the other phone kept the whole image Sharp. Then the 4x lens .. when does that kick in ?? As every time i selected the 4x option it was just cropping in on the main sensor i know this as i put my finger over the telephoto lens. It was very intermittent in getting it to work! I had seen enough after that and returned it. This could be the year i switched to iphone never thought id say that. Im gutted
Danny is always the best🤩
very good ty
It's wild how much better video is now
Both still look amazing!!
ONE UI 4.0 have that eraser function as well.
Does your pixel 6 pro have a flickering screen issue that was posted in reddit?
I'm torn, great video. I have a pixel 5 but I'm looking at doing you tube videos so I'm thinking of going to the pixel 6 but I'm tempted to go to the iphone 13 pro max just on the video alone. The pixel 6s videos are good but from what I've seen doesn't seem to be great quite yet
I really wanted to upgrade to the pixel 6 pro from my pixel 3.. but at this point I think it's either going to be the pixel 5 or whatever the latest iphone is.
I'll come back again for the pixel 7 next year when they fix some of the obvious flaws.
I like your comparison, it lets us know how much improvement that Google did.
Camera comparisons are very similar. But for those wondering which to get, I'd think the pixel 6 overall (better stereo speakers, battery etc) would be better as the pixel 5's under screen speaker is so horrible
Thank you
So how do you turn on the sound enhancement. I can't find it.
Best depiction of the improvements for the pixel 6 cameras on UA-cam! I really do think Google will still optimize for the new cameras and imagine when they keep the same sensors for another year or two how much more they will do with it. Although they should put a wider rear wide angle.
I'm still happy with my Pixel 5.
Thank you so much.
Loving these comparisons. so good and very helpful!

I was going to buy Pixel 6 because I don't like so much the curved screens, but after seeing this video, I think I will go for the PRO version. That trick of taking portraits using 4X zoom and getting a natural bokeh will solve the issues in missinterpreting the edges of portraits. I will deal with a bigger curved brick just to enjoy that zoom and wider selfie. Hope I won't regret...😓
With the back cam or selfie ?
Please compare x70 pro plus,with s21 ultra,13 pro max and pixel 6 pro 🙏
Aye he's having fun
