I finally left the farm today because we had 40% chance of Sunshine in Florida. Regular was $4.39 down from $4.69.
I filled up at a Love's in the next town overat $4.19 and Miss Jessi and I rode like the wind, towards the Sun 🌞
      Diesel tho was $5.99. Insane.

Ok all Ford diesels. After wait to start light goes out the glow plugs still cycle up to a minute depending on ambient temperature. After start light goes out watch the battery gage. After 20-60 seconds you'll see the battery gage go up. Turn key off and repeat that full cycle at least twice. If it's below freezing do it 4 times. That will ensure the cylinders are warm. I own three 7.3s and worked an ambulances for over 15yrs. This works and it will also ensure you have full battery power going to the starter.

I really like those portable boosters. I've had mine for probably 3 or 4 years and it still works like a champ. One thing I have learned though is remove it from the battery quickly as you can after the engine starts that will help prevent the battery from swelling they don't do very well being charged off the alternator

Any battery jumpstart/booster has to be maintained and does not last long compared to supercapacitor type jumpstart/booster has a shelf-life of 10 years or long. The only issue will take approx 3-5 mins to charge from a low battery voltage.

Would like to add an option, the Gooloo GT4000 (not S model) which not only packs 4000mah more power (26800mah) but for below-freezing weather has a pre-warming feature to protect the jump starter pack, down to -4 F. So whereas the GT3000 should be fine in this videos based situation, especially if stored inside the warmer vehicle, in cases where the temperature of the jump pack may become below freezing, I feel the GT4000 (not S) model could be a stronger choice. BTW, I own both models and can run my big 80L electric cooler/freezer off them just by constantly switching them out!

David, glad you "weathered" the sand storm. I spent a year 35 miles north of Barstow, CA at Fort Irwin. We would get those talcum powder blasts with 30-40 mph winds. Our monthly "Pay Day Parades" often included chilled dermabrasion as the howling southbound winds tore across the "grinder." Fun stuff. I also remember the sand slipping into the barracks through every crack and cranny. Your window and door seals must be doing their jobs. I lol when Lefty starts talking to you, especially when he is upside down, like in the chair. Thanks for the booster testimonial. All the best. Don D

I was living in Dundee NY in an off grid cabin with my 7.3 Powerstroke. We had about 2 wks of -10 to -20 weather. I found that if I ran 2 kw generator for a hour with the block heater plugged in I got a quick start every time. It's better for the engine because it warms the oil as well as the main and rod bearings. I learned this in Argentia Newfoundland running 6/71 diesel boats. I do have to say I was working with fresh batteries that had been replaced within the first month after buying the F-350. I started working with diesels in 1970.

I'm glad you edited in the comment to state "connect the battery before using boost button", as that feature bypasses all internal safety features, and could create some major sparks if connect to vehicle battery after boost is activated.
However, I saw no reason to use the "boost" function in your situation at all. First off you truck battery was barely low to begin with at 12.4V,and secondly after connecting to the battery terminals the "ready" light was steady, not flashing (indicates over-discharged battery, needing "boost") judging from your reaction. So boost only when ready-flashing (very low battery), or NO battery at all in vehicle!

The GT3000's output is marginal for a 7.3L and one runs the risk of running it down via multiple failed non-boosted starting attempts.

I like mine but the nice packaged box arrived damaged, and it was boxed that way at Amazon. Had to call them to get a refund applied as they changed the prices a half hour after I ordered, and some of those fulfilled by Amazon were all set at different prices with discount coupons. I'd prefer that Amazon - unless they are referring you to "other seller" simly has one price for the precise same product. It's a form of consumer deception which we had many state and federal codes for in the 70's...but starting in the 80's consumer protection began to take a back seat to corporate greed.

Thank you for this video! I went to start my 6L today, and the batteries were completely dead. I turned on the charger, and after an hour with still no juice, I came into the house and ordered the GT4000. It's probably overkill, but as cold as it's been lately, I figured it could be worth it. It was $177 with Prime savings, coupon, and tax. I do plan to have the ability to charge my starter batteries with my house batteries, but I don't have that yet. Even when I do, redundancy can be a real lifesaver.

Optima Yellow Top Batteries would be your best bet. We have two in our 2011 Ford F350 Diesel 6.7 liter, as well as our Crown Victoria Police package vehicle. We have always used Optimas ever since they came out. Our last Optima lasted 12 years in one of our police package vehicles. You can throw any temperature at it, hot or cold, impact, you can drop it as long as you don't drop it on the terminals, you can mount it upside down, sideways, it can withstand heavy duty vibrations. It is simple, if not the best battery made and I am 59 years old and I have tried every battery including Interstate and Die Hards. One of our vehicles in the dead of winter, single digits, during a snowstorm had the halogen fog lights left on, the next morning when the driver went out the next morning, he couldn't understand why everything looked orange (it was still dark), he realized the fog lights on. He cut them off and fired up the vehicle.

Do you ever use the block heater to help the 7.3 PS start on cold mornings?

It needs to be replaced. It's been dead since I got the truck...

How old are your glow plugs David? My son has a 2000 F250 with 7.3L and he was experiencing hard starts around 35 degrees so he changed his glow plugs and now he has no issues at all, even when it’s below zero outside!

I can't say for certain, but replacement is on my list :)

@@TheCampulanceMan Before he changed his glow plugs his truck would struggle to start if it was under 40 degrees outside. Now it starts easily, even when it’s below zero!
