I would DEFINITELY have spoken up. Like that last lady meal times were very contentious when I was growing up. And hearing someone say “ I wish you weren’t my grandkids”.... I would have had to speak up.
You want electronic devices turned off, leave them in the car. Or ask “Hey can we be here as a family?”
I have 5 grandchildren ( oldest 17 and youngest 10) and I only require electronic devices be turned off when ordering and then when the food comes. In fact I ask them what they’re doing on their devices ( always phones now) and they happily show me. And with volume turned down not to annoy other guests.
I show them respect and love and they give the same back.

The last woman has probably gone through some very hard times with her family. I mean, my own Dad once threw things everywhere and screamed and it was traumatic. She must be just having a panic attack due to her experiences. Shes a good person and I hope more people speak up like her.

This hits right at home. I cried when the last girl was speaking. I have complications with my grandparents, yet I won’t have much time with them. I enjoy my time while I can, and turn off my phone when eating out. I understand what it’s like, but you have to get through these things and spend precious time with your family.

But the age gap is quite big and you can't blame the kids for doing something they would probably enjoy more than talking to 2 "old" people. Furthermore the kids are quite young, they can't sit and do nothing, they'll come around when they're in their teen years. And the grandpa wasn't very nice. He wasn't complaining about just the tablets. He was attacking them personally and their parents way of raising them, which isn't for them to decide. ^^

This honestly hits home in a different way to me. I only have my maternal grandmother left and I don’t speak/see to her much because of my mom’s own family trauma regarding her large family. I lost both my maternal and paternal grandfathers before I was born and my paternal grandmother while I still was in elementary school in the early 2010’s. I had fond memories of visiting her in the nursing home she lived at in her final years. This just makes me realize that I make the most of the time with my grandmom.

As a 13 year old kid with 2 verbally abusive grandparents and a physically abusive father, this hits home for me. However, it also partially restores my hope in humanity. It makes me wonder if anything would've turned out differently for me if people had stood up for me in situations like this instead of just watching it and/or supporting my abusers. My grandparents have always verbally abused me, and my dad started physically abusing me after I caught him cheating on my mom when I was 4. I used to have to wear makeup to school to cover my bruises. We need more upstanders in this world instead of bystanders.
Sorry kid but what is happening here in this video is not abuse. It's two fed up grandparents who just want to spend some good quality time with their grandchildren but are instead being disrespected by 2 selfish and entitled little brats. Anyone who allows children to have mobile phones, devices, headphones etc at the dinner table is also an abuser because they are setting them up for failure in future relationships. If you can't communicate effectively and build rapport with people in your immediate environment how do you expect to have a successful career later on? Are you going to put your headphones on in front of your boss and pull out your phone when they are talking to you like so many kids do at the dinner table these days because they have lazy parents who can't be bothered teaching them basic manners and respect? I also grew up in an abusive home, what you described as happening to you is real abuse but what you see in this video is not abuse.
