    Learned the whole thing better than the software developers tutorial.

    Thanks JP, very intersting as usual. With the mic can you record playing instruments (guitar, piano and others)? Is it still worth getting a proper looper pedal (like an RC-505 or others) with all this evolving technology? Would you say this is the future of sampling/looping ?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  4 роки тому +3

      Hey 👋
      Your gonna HATE my answer - it depends.
      It totally depends on what you want to do. If you want to trigger pre-recorded stuff then sampling is the way to go, if you want to record and “loop” yourself live, then.. well.. looping is the. Way to go. They are separate things but there are some blurred lines. For me.. I have gigged and made money with the looper app on my phone and the same with hardware.
      I know lots of musicians who have boss pedals - and I know loads who use an app on their phone or iPad - it’s down to some serious preferences on what you want your setup to be and HOW you want it to be and what you want it to do.
      Hardware wise - checkout the Aeros Loop Studio (amazing new loop pedal) - Headrush Looperboard (that’s what I have now and is a monster that outdated Boss IMO) - TC-Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 or voicelive 3 and of course the boss RC range or if you want a simple one phrase looper, Boss ve-8, ditto, RC-1, there are loads.. I’ve even seen some amps now that have a 30sec one phrase looper built in!
      Software / app wise look at - LoopyHD, Quantiloop, AudioKit L7 looper, Again IMO they are the top three Loop apps but the list goes on..
      My best advice is figure out what you want to loop wether it is a guitar, voice, keyboards etc or a mixture and then figure out how many phrases or loops you need or want and then look at what is out there based on your budget. The great thing about the apps are they are really cheap in comparison to hardware loopers however you then end up spending more money on things like foot controllers or extra equipment to make that work. Hardware is more expensive initially but then they normally have more control and less set up time but can be limiting due to lack of firmware updates.
      Sorry this response is long but I wanted to give you my full in-depth view. Get a piece of paper and a pen sketch out what you want your setup to look like.
      Hope this helps 👍🏻

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK I'm sorry John, and please excuse my ignorance, but can you explain the difference? I appreciate your time.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  4 роки тому +3

      No worries Yaog.
      A looper is a recording device where you create something by recording and then singing or playing directly in, live without stopping.. you can use a looper with sampled sounds instead of live sounds but those sounds are not normally stored in the looper.. they would come from somewhere else.. like a sampler.
      A sampler is where you sample snippets of sounds first and then play them or trigger them back. A sampler stores a library of your sounds to bring up and then use. In this app it also has a sequencer which is just triggering those pre recorded sounds in the order that you want by using midi commands to tell the sampler which samples it wants and when.
      Hope that makes sense.

    can you add Chords to this like the machine mk3 and they have also a pad you can move your finger up and down to create effects.
    also can you make the fruit effects something we can use to record on a pad with as well, and not just perform with.
    the edit on this is really quick and easy its brilliant. but could you have an option where you could move the pointer to a certain part of a sample? cause sometimes it takes ages to play through the Whole sample. oh one last thing...when I put this app on split screen so I can record UA-cam you can't press the buttons no more it goes all weird. could you sort that out if that's OK.
    Thanks for a great App

      You wont be able to directly pul the files from the phone into Koala but if you have a copy of the songthat has come from a computer, save them to the files app on iOS or look at pulling it from using something like audioShare (a brilliant app) and then you will be able to import them from there. If it is Apple Music or a subscription based service, then you wont be able to.

They cover the whole track, which makes the sound not very pleasant, I would like the bass to continue playing without the influence of such effects as the stutter, your video was released quite a long time ago and a lot has changed after many updates, can you contact support on this important issue?

    is it possible to sample something like a Korg Volca directly to koala from the Volca headphone output direct to the app on an ipad or are you stuck with the mic? nobody would seriously be able to get anything usable via an onboard mic..I keep trying to sample direct audio but not having any success...to me it could never replace the immediacy I get with my Roland SP404SX but people are trumpeting Koala as a better sampler....what am I doing wrong? I want to like Koala but am struggling

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 роки тому

      Hey Son 👋
      With the Volca range it’s all about 3.5mm jacks (headphone ports). What I would do it use a 3.5mm to 1/4” stereo splitter and input that into an audio interface that is connected to the iOS device.
      This way you get a higher quality and you can also send the signal (of koala) to speakers - you can pick up an audio interface really cheaply (around £40/£50) and just need that splitter cable.

    Nah come on man the old akai S/Z and MPCs can do all sort of stuff this app cant (and isnt meant to as its meant to be fast and simple), like layers, sample per key, synthesis, etc. Beatmaker 3 however... well thats a full sampler studio in a single app basically.

      It was a little bit of a cheeky intro. 👍🏻
      I know there is a-lot more to it but the S/Z range was very daunting to loads of people and for most was completely out of their grasp.
      BM3 is a MONSTER of an app and is amazing, no doubt or argument there.
      The developer of Koala Sampler is looking for constructive feedback - maybe an opportunity to add features they haven’t thought off and get it even more powerful. 👍🏻
