Caesar was already in Italy, in Gallia Cisalpina, before the civil war started. He stayed in Ravenna. There he first tried to solve the situation, in a political and peaceful way, and he wrote letters to Pompey. Caesar suggested that Pompey would meet him in Ravenna to talk about it in person. Caesar himself could not return to Rome as long he had that command of his provinces. Because a personal conversation has much more effect than letters. But at one point he did not get any answer at all. From Ravenna Caesar crossed the Rubicon, from there he went to Ariminium, (today's Rimini) Then he went to Rome first, but in the meantime Pompey was leaving Rome together with most of the Senators. Caesar tried to catch up with Pompey, not to fight him, but he still wanted to speak with him, at that point. Caesar tried to stop Pompey at the harbor town of Brundisium, but that failed. So Pompey got away to Greece. From there Caesar first went back to Rome, also because he didn't have enough ships ready at that moment. So he could not follow Pompey immediately. From Rome Caesar first went to Spain. Because a large part of Pompey's legions were still stationed in Spain. Caesar had managed to disband those legions, peacefully, not by fighting. But because of his smart tactics and maneuvers. Caesar gave those soldiers the choice to join his legions, or to go home. And many soldiers did join Caesars legions. When that was done, he went back to Rome again, to prepare himself to go to Greece and Pompey. After the battles in Greece, Caesar went to Egypt, from there to Asia minor, the battle at Zela ( Veni, Vidi, Vici.) After Zela he first went back to Rome, and then he went to Africa. After the battles in Africa, he again went back to Rome. His last battle was in Spain...The battle of Munda on March 17th, 45 BC. This movie is very great, but a lot of what happened in Caesars life is missing in this movie. But ofcourse it would be a very long movie, if they really show everything.
Caesar was a war criminal. He incited the Gallic Wars and was fairly genocidal to one tribe at a time. He couldn't enter Rome as a civilian ever again as his immunity would be over. Pompey was his only conceivable option thru the Triumvirate and Julia. The Triumvirate was based on mutual self-preservation and enrichment. Gaius was broke except for creditors. His bribes with borrowed money were obvious. Who better to hang around with than Conniving Crassus and Dashing Pompey. That was over. Disbanding each other's legions was not possible. Why should Pompey or Senate concession at all? Cato was an extreme stick in the mud. Caesar's chance to live was in the Title of Kaiser- which is Not his name. Bringing an army to Rome was completely illegal. He WAS an enemy of the state. Then all that mess after his death, that gave The Seat to some Real winners. The Julio-Claudians were pretty bent. His battle tactics were not innovative, but necessary as the best options at the time. His foresight and planning were "For the time being" most of the time, as he Never had secure supplies. These historical and biblical films are excellent. Very well done . Shakespearean true acting. It is astounding to see known actors playing in this capacity. Christopher Walken shows his range here.
Great gem to watch' roman history whether in documentries or in this case film is always intersting and this film with major players like the late Richard Harris, christopher Walkin , and of course Mr.Big! was a brilliantly done film. The life of Caesar was amaing in all that he accomplished. Although you cannot include all that he did in a movie, his accomplishments are amazing. Thank you for a entertaining film.😃😃
First Caesar conquered the recalcitrants of Spain. He gained a fortune from commandeering the lion's share of the silver from the Spanish silver mines. After returning to Rome in Triumph, he then went to Gaul.
Caesar accomplished so much this that it’s amazing how much this movie just skips over. His government in Spain, going to Britain, crossing the rhine, Helveti. I mean the Gallic wars was practically a montage and the civil war was barely shown. In Alexandria Caesar was besieged for months alone. Remember he also then fought a rebellious king in present day turkey on the way back to Rome. Dude did so much even a long movie can barely cover his life.
Great movie Ceaser was a good man who loved Rome the jealous conspirator's assinated him 📒 he gave deaf ears to Calpurnia and believed in the flatterers and paid the price of his life ✍️
Caesar was an amazing character, but he was ultimately to blame for the destruction of the Republic. He was a meglomaniac and not a true Roman patriot.
What a powerful story and yet so sad in the end. 😢 Caesar’s wife had a revelation dream about His death as a warning. Sadly He did not listen. Awesome movie. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👍👍👍
Well, it depends on how you look at it. Ceasar was not positive character at all. Also, he was about to be warned about plot but he decided to read script (with warning) later...
thought this movie was a bit off kilter so did a little checking , the guy Richard Harris portrays was Lucius Sulla , Caesars father's brother in law was Gaius Marius , he and Sulla were compatriots at one point but belonged to differing political idealogies , Marius was an "optimares" supporting the ruling classes while Sulla was a "populares" dedicated to the masses, both vied for army control to fight "Mithradates of Pontus" which was granted to Sulla , and off he went , soon after a "Tribune" transferred the power to Marius . Sulla turned around and marched on Rome , the first time the army had ever done so , and Marius was defeated and sent into exile , so off goes Sulla again but Marius returned to Rome and eliminated a lot of Sulla's supporters , Sulla returns and this time kills Marius , and sets about sorting out Marius's supporters , which is where we enter in the movie , and in the purge Julius was rounded up but escaped with others and headed off to Crete , this was 85 B.C., Sulla instigated himself as dictator until 80 B.C. then stepped down but retained the position of consul in the newly reformed consular government, resigining in 79 B.C. , only to die in 78 B.C.! on hearing of his death Caesar returns to Rome , and lacking any real means and having no political clout he turns to legal advocacy , gaining the support of notaries such as Cicero and Scippio , so begins the next phase of his life and so much happens in the next 15 years it would take 3 movies to detail it all , above all though it seems Julius was an aloof prick who really thought he was important , (well o.k turns out he was kindof ) but enough , enjoy the movie
Shogun did this really well lately. I find that when they build real sets the sense of atmosphere is unparalleled. Thats why movies like Gladiator or shows like Rome always stood out. Real sets, real people doing stunts. Only using CGI when needed. Gladiator 2 looks like a dissapointment for this reason. CGI people rididng lions kind of ruins the immersion.
Vercengettorex was an impressive first king of the Gauls. He stood 6'3 to 4". His sword was massive. He was adorned in rainment that today would likely cost $1M. It hurts to watch the end. Gaius Julius Ceasar had great looks and a family that was impressively Patrician from the fall of the Etruscan kings. Jealousy did Ceasar in.
Where is Crassus in this film? He was part of the triumvate that Julius Caesar was in; it was he who defeated Spartacus and was killed afterwards in the desert battle(which name escapes me at the moment)against the Parthians.
The Spanish town Pamplona is a twisted name of Pompeola - Pompey´s town, the town that Pompey the Great founded while he was there with his legions. There is a plaque with Pompey inscription nearby the town, which has been preserved to our days
I was like "Richard Harris as Sulla, I don't know. Marius, maybe.". Ten minutes later, "Okay, I stand corrected. He dropped the temperature in the Senate by 10 degrees in that scene." The terror of Marius, and then Sulla in retribution, what an awful episode of Roman history.

Scratch that movie making doesn't demand purity of nationality to contribute now any movie about Rome I will give a chance I find even such an old antiquated civilization imparts much not only culture but also the richness of etymology traces back to Rome just like how all roads lead to Rome It's actually a lot of effort quite often to venture creating movies not knowing at all how they will be received

Gauis Marius was Sulla's greatest rival for glory. Marius was born in Latia (area around Rome) not in Rome. Sulla wished to restore all the privileges of the Patricians.
I cannot stand movies that don't do enough research. Sulla was in his forties when he marched on Rome after Gaius Marius and his supporters stripped the Eastern command from him. He was known to be a careful dresser, as it was part of his pose as a Roman patrician. When he took Rome, not only did he slaughter his enemies, he rewrote the unwritten Constitution, putting the Senate and the Patrician class back in control of the Republic, neutering the tribunes and the popular assemblies and making the juries for various crimes including prosecuting a governor for bribery and plundering their province filled only with Senators. He most certainly did not march troops into the Curia. He had enough allies in the Senate like Marcus Crassus to manage the Senate. He did give preference to those with military honors, which was ironic as Caesar won a Civic Crown and enjoyed the various perks that came with it. It was also ironic that Gaius Marius appointed him a priest of Jupiter to sidetrack his civic and military career, while Sulla set aside the priesthood so Caesar could stand for military tribune and go to Mitylene to win his Crown and to be accused by Lucullus of "prostituting" himself to get a fleet from one the Hellenic kings in Roman Asia. Caesar was a blonde in his youth with irises so dark they could be black and blue eyes that transfixed those he conversed with. It always surprises me that the only movie or TV show that gets the blonde part right is "Spartacus". He was tall for a Roman and muscular in a sinewy way. By 49 he was losing his hair and much had turned gray. He took every opportunity to wear his Civic Crown to help cover up his bald spot. The BBC production of "Julius Caesar" got a lot of things wring from Jacobi playing an older Caesar and even getting the use of ring mail, Coolus pattern helmets and the large oval scutum used by legionaries of the late Republic. Also, except for extreme cases during civil wars, troops were not allowed within the City with weapons and armor. Troops marching in a triumph did so in their tunics and carrying staffs. Until Caracalla or later, the Praetorian Guard when escorting Caesar wore the toga of the Roman citizens with their belt and sword inside the folds. This went back to Augustus who was careful about appearances, as he claimed to have "restored" the Republic.
Caeser has allways been a hero to me . However , I do sometimes do wonder how caeser was so able too do the things he did do. I mean all that he did or had done and allways seemed to come out on top , and his nephew like him also . I mean Octavian of course . I once read a supposed true story , that Octvian had told himself...that he was "visited" by some men who advised him on how to obtain what was rightly his . Who to fight , when to fight and how to govern an empire .
Great movie, because a movie is what it is, although many people don't know the difference between a work of fiction and a documentary. If it had shown Cesar being born in India and ruling China it would still not be a lesser work of fiction, because a work of fiction is what it is. A very good one.
I generally like this movie, mainly as it’s one of the few to portray Sulla - and it gave us Richard Harris to do it! But I find it ironic that the love story between Caesar and Cornelia is so extra, when history actually knows way more about his mistress than his wife. LoL
1:29:05 That's fuckin rough. Affects every Gaul rich and poor. Especially when he says "We must do it today". You're doing that hard shit I'm talking about right now. Damn.
bc these wars are never truly about external threats, but about controlling internal threats, controlling resources and population reduction. even to this century. as smedley butler said, war is a racket.
1:27:50 - legend has it that this is when the French started eating frogs and snails! And possibly where their penchant for pretentiousness began, when they started to claim that in actual fact such foods were a delicacy!!!
You're a perfect the best movies. Because these movies were based in Europe in the first place. Not in America, Americans cannot make European movies. Americans make cowboy movies.
So much ignored potential in this movie. Had the producers/director/writers stuck to actual history there would have been much, much more for the audience to enjoy. Historically, in reality this story was huge, it was earth shaking. The movie reduces it to a rather ho-hum boring slog through a very small lens of what the producers/director/writers wanted history to be. What a waste of potential.
How did the Romans use British English as its official languages nowadays? I thought it supposed to be Italy? Language? Those who sound like in movies THE GODFATHER. Thats real ROMAN
@zrocaesar8559 I think he was joking, lol! Also, Castillan Spanish is no more of a branch off of Latin than Italian or French is. And then of course there were those who spoke Hebrew! Remember there was no Christianity yet and those who were not Romans were Jews.....!
If Alexander was alive for a whole life and Macedonia united I doubt that Rome would ever conquer Greece organised by him and his descendants. It is an insult not to respect him. I stoped watching .I respect Ceasar's accomplishments though . He was great too.
Roman often buildt tunnels under the cities they besieged😀 The had also better war equipment than their adversaries😀 Later their enemies found remedies that made the empire colaps😛
Am I salty that Spartacus’ Revolt failed, yes. Am I salty that Pompey swept in at the last moment to claim victory even though Crassus’ Legions did all the work during the last year and just got a pat on the back. Also yes.
Brutus read a lot of Greek books 📚 . He was lost in translation which leading him to be a traitor. Such a weak man, easy to be persuaded, not an honorable man, eve not a noble person. He & Casius shares same ignoble character.
This aint bad. Its about rome However romantic a focal point on the. Story of ceasar. And seems like a. Rosier. Then necessary. Its good to have highlighted the conquest of alesia and vercingaetorix or however u spell it. The gallic territories were ceasars and his mens triumph which was an impressive. Undertaking. And then to After beat pompey and his cohorts because they sought to undermine. His victorious. Return because of the wounded. Pride. Having been eclipsed by a man once beneath his station was more than he could take Ceasars return and righteous taking his place. As. Pontifax even though he. Wanted to forgive past trepidation to bring peace if they would stop seeking to harm him as sulla. Was so. Looked upon with fear because of his proscription. Ceasar had intended to make a change of society He was undermined and betrayed because of the hubris of a handful of backpedaling old hasbeen old men. Couldnt bear to c him rise
I don't want to be judgemental but by saying this movie is bad! do you mean the quality, the story or the acting or in general!? The quality wasn't too bad the story is great because the story is about one of the greatest general walked on this earth and I am from Persia, I have great respect for him. The acting wasn't too bad in my opinion they did well. In general you're one of those people acting tough behind the keyboard but in reality you have nothing to offer, before try to be funny and disrespect history stop wasting your time and get life see what you can achieve in your pathetic short life on Eart!?
@@maka3327 Also you misunderstood me I am speaking well of Caesar. But I find the narrative that is presented a touch less than genuine. True to the actual story. And u certainly misjudged me I. Don't. Disrespect I just know quality. And this is not accurate historically speaking
factually inaccuracies: Gauis Julius Ceasar had blonde hair. He was made a priest to Jupiter Optimus Maximus by Gaius Marias who played wargames with his young nephew. Marius exiled to the priesthood, away from military service, because he feared Ceasar's legacy would be greater than his own if he pursued a military career. Gaius Marias was NOT Lucius Cornelius Sulla's greatest enemy! Gauis Marius rescued Sulla from being a noble pauper to a military career.

Great movie Ceaser was a good man who loved Rome the jealous conspirator's assinated him 📒 he gave deaf ears to Calpurnia and believed in the flatterers and paid the price of his life ✍️
He also committed genocide and enslaved around 1,000,000 people, so he's not that good. Still a curious character from history

Yes, each of them brought something unique to the table. Caesar brought Public support, Pompeius brought the Legions and Crassus brought the Money.
I was wondering on the same line.

Thanks for the awesome sauce movie!
Well done!
Julius Caesar
A great man empire in Roman
He fight for his country he was a legend man very Brave person
Thank 🙏💞❤️ for Julius Caesar
He slaughtered millions, ffs.
I generally like this movie, mainly as it’s one of the few to portray Sulla - and it gave us Richard Harris to do it! But I find it ironic that the love story between Caesar and Cornelia is so extra, when history actually knows way more about his mistress than his wife. LoL
This movie is brilliant for its depiction of the corruption that comes with power. Sic semper tyrannis.
❤❤❤❤ Great movie. Great actors
The stenvh.
They fcuk The Scott
2024 ... still watching it lol my ancestor fought with ceaser ...
sulla died after retiring from power, in self imposed exile, much like tiberius
1:29:05 That's fuckin rough. Affects every Gaul rich and poor. Especially when he says "We must do it today". You're doing that hard shit I'm talking about right now. Damn.
Sehr gute Verfilmung.
Definitely not the same Julius Caesar I have always known.
Thousands of innocent people died in the war, and even to this century we still see the war. NEVER ENDING, History does REPEAT.
bc these wars are never truly about external threats, but about controlling internal threats, controlling resources and population reduction. even to this century.
as smedley butler said, war is a racket.
It seems that people never learned from history that’s why History Repeat itself.

@@brianjacob8728 “we are the new Rome”…Interesting.
Great.
1:27:50 - legend has it that this is when the French started eating frogs and snails!
And possibly where their penchant for pretentiousness began, when they started to claim that in actual fact such foods were a delicacy!!!
Great movie!!❤❤
Where can find this movie in french please?
ya'll were fantastic!!
The entire movie is in English, but all the subtitles at the end are in German. ?
it is so nice
You're a perfect the best movies. Because these movies were based in Europe in the first place. Not in America, Americans cannot make European movies. Americans make cowboy movies.
So much ignored potential in this movie. Had the producers/director/writers stuck to actual history there would have been much, much more for the audience to enjoy. Historically, in reality this story was huge, it was earth shaking. The movie reduces it to a rather ho-hum boring slog through a very small lens of what the producers/director/writers wanted history to be. What a waste of potential.
@@detch01 while I agree with your thoughts, I wonder about "actual history ". From the events having been, "approved "
According to Jack Parr. Brutus asked Caesar how many pizzas he ate. When he said, “Ate two Brute.”
Ate tu brute? It means even you Brutus?
I know we all noticed Walken and Harris, but is anyone gonna mention how we have two Law & Order detectives here? Mike Logan and Cyrus Lupo!
How did the Romans use British English as its official languages nowadays?
I thought it supposed to be Italy? Language? Those who sound like in movies THE GODFATHER. Thats real ROMAN
No lol Romans spoke latin or Greek depending where they lived lol Italian is a branch off of latin much like castillian Spanish
@zrocaesar8559 I think he was joking, lol!
Also, Castillan Spanish is no more of a branch off of Latin than Italian or French is.
And then of course there were those who spoke Hebrew! Remember there was no Christianity yet and those who were not Romans were Jews.....!
It was Latin.
not acute, but still a good movie
Did u mean accurate
them were days that had rules quite scary it opens thy miind but is the world any better now leave that up too yoy to decide
If Alexander was alive for a whole life and Macedonia united I doubt that Rome would ever conquer Greece organised by him and his descendants. It is an insult not to respect him. I stoped watching .I respect Ceasar's accomplishments though . He was great too.
Alexander would have gone down exactly like Pyrrhus.
46:42 People, listen up… ❤❤❤

Hindi dubbed honi chahiye
It depends on the movie, I reckon.
Not a rape of history but a. Poetic liscence. To make a movie. Impactful and hold interest
Roman often buildt tunnels under the cities they besieged😀
The had also better war equipment than their adversaries😀
Later their enemies found remedies that made the empire colaps😛
Where are crassus, young marius and cicero?
Deveria ser legendado.obg
Ellos No hablaban Ingles
Historically correct or there abouts?
Am I salty that Spartacus’ Revolt failed, yes. Am I salty that Pompey swept in at the last moment to claim victory even though Crassus’ Legions did all the work during the last year and just got a pat on the back. Also yes.
The Romans didn't invent cutthroat politics, but they definitely perfected it.
I didn't know they had New York accents in Ancient Rome.
Brutus read a lot of Greek books 📚 . He was lost in translation which leading him to be a traitor. Such a weak man, easy to be persuaded, not an honorable man, eve not a noble person. He & Casius shares same ignoble character.
Lesson to be learned that you are first wife mean a lot in your life and you should never work away with her for any other woman
Ice movie but please don’t think it’s historically accurate
Nice
1:23:30 Pompey shows fear.
Anyone please send Telugu dubbed please
When a movie is free, you know it's going to be bad... the only question is "How bad?"
This aint bad. Its about rome
However romantic a focal point on the. Pride. Having been eclipsed by a man once beneath his station was more than he could take
Ceasars return and righteous taking his place. As. Pontifax even though he. Wanted to forgive past trepidation to bring peace if they would stop seeking to harm him as sulla. Was so. Looked upon with fear because of his proscription.
Ceasar had intended to make a change of society
He was undermined and betrayed because of the hubris of a handful of backpedaling old hasbeen old men.
@@maka3327 negative it's a fine viewing experience. It just was a touch. Softened and. Sort of airbrushed and actual. Narrative of what happened
@@maka3327 Also you misunderstood me I am speaking well of Caesar. But I find the narrative that is presented a touch less than genuine. True to the actual story.
And u certainly misjudged me I. Don't. Disrespect I just know quality. And this is not accurate historically speaking
@@WeAreNotAmused haha I think you misunderstood me because my previous comment wasn't for you,, it was for the guy above who said this movie is bad .
factually inaccuracies: Gauis Julius Ceasar had blonde hair.
And Sulla, by abolishing all of Marius' laws, allowed Caesar to resume military service.
And yes, Marius took on Sulla as a Legate in Numidia
Where are the elders?
And who is the priest?
