I love the US version, Steve carell is so funny , there's some brilliantly funny scenes and is in a different class altogether than the English office ,it's one of the best US comedy series, but the english office still blows it out the water for the awkward comedy of Gervais , David Brent is a genius character that will never be bested . He was David's "Boy" in the sense that Gareth knew who to align himself with. Also he was a backstabber, he didn't think twice about taking David's Job when he got sacked.
Neil saw Gareth as asset in his office cuz Gareth had military background nobody in office had thus he would take orders and execute them even those unreasonable ones, no question asked.
I think this is a very interesting lesson in management 2 very different approaches David's approach I want my team to like me but lacking in the ability to be a professional in management and Neil who is not concerned about being liked but wants to do his job I agree with Neil that if your in management you have huge responsibilities and the ship does need to be steered in the right direction with your team to be a successful in any management you have to be consistently organised have good people skills and be very emotionally intelligent to bring the best out of your staff
Neil clearly cared about being liked (he was just more skillful in achieving this), and David must have been fairly competent at times at least - after all, he did become a manager SOMEHOW
Yeah definitely. It's interesting how Neil wasn't so preoccupied with being popular, but ended up being so popular by a) being a good manager in the traditional sense (micromanaging staff, ensuring company profits and employees have job security, etc), and b) just being himself and not trying too hard to be liked. I think part of the tragedy of the whole show is that David isn't really a bad guy, he just never really understood the above.
He wouldn’t be, but if an employee notified him that they hadn’t been paid, it would be his responsibility to take it up with HR/Payroll and make sure it got resolved.
