Dr. Ferguson is a fave of mine. He is so knowledgeable . I learn something worth days of meditation and growth every time I get to see his sermons, panel participation,or shorts such as this one.
When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth” (Gen. 9:16).
I believe he is referring to the word in the Old Testament (keshet) simply means 'bow', and is same word as a 'war bow'. It points back to God figuratively, so he later also (in Jesus, the God-man) dies for his people. Similarly Abraham fell asleep and only God (as the burning torch) passed through the split carcasses. Not with Abraham as was the proper pattern for oaths, who.was made to fall asleep. Again we break the covenant, but yet He 'dies'. Such is His covenantal love for his own.
I love this concise, Christ -centered answer

It's a contract. With penalties for both parties if broken. Of course God will not break his promises.
What was the point mentioning the bow as maybe not the rainbow? He said it was in the clouds... this didn't help me at all.
