I hate the way the older children never leave their mothers sides but still continue to harass them for milk. Don't they ever leave and start their own families at some point?
The males leave when they are around 3 to 5 years of age and they start their own troop or try to join another troop. The females generally stay with the troop she was raised with. These macaque babies are not fully weaned until they are 12 to 14 months old. These are highly social animals that depend on the entire troop for survival. They all help each other by babysitting, discipline, grooming etc. The macaque species has been on this earth long before humans, and they are still thriving...so they must be doing something right. Why do you hate the way they live? Humans do it as well.
