I removed quite a few gas cap doors and inner pocket on vehicles where I have to access a dent for paintless dent repair work. You wouldn't believe how many people let those doors get pushed too far back and put a crease on the outer panel on the hinge side of the door. I use WD-40 on that rubber boot around the filler neck, which makes it much easier to slide off and back on. The poorest excuse for a gas cap door hinge is on a Toyota Tacoma, 4Runner, and Tundra. If the owner doesn't keep the door hinge lubed with a spray on grease, the hinge becomes rusty and will snap off. You can not replace the hinge without replacing the whole door, then the door needs painted to match. If you are very careful, you can bend the crimp where the door fastens to the hinge wire and remove the original door and remount it on the new hinge, after removing the new door first from the hinge. Toyota definitely has room for improvement on the gas door hinges.
