5.5 0 60 for a 90s Mustang is amazing. Look at how it stacks up to those 60s and 70s muscle cars. It was faster than an auto NSX!

Despite it being relatively slow nowadays...I love my 99 2-valve. Easy to mod and work on (for the most part). So crazy how high the prices are now for a GT compared to 23 years ago.

It wasn't slow then and it's not slow now. People's expectations are just too damn high. Everything that is quicker now cost 3 to 4 times as much as that GT did when it was new. Is it worth it and the super high insurance that goes with it? Nope!

To be fair if you take inflation into consideration the base GT would cost around 41k in todays money meanwhile the MSRP for a 2024 mustang GT is 42k. So i would say its keep up with inflation in terms of cost.

1999...so ahead of its time. I have a 99' Mustang GT, Convertible, same color red as the car shown here. Even with the quirks; spark plug thread problems, intake manifold problems, cheap interior--they're still bullet proof and made were designed to last a long time.
Though not "fast" to todays standards, they're still plenty quick and an underrated platform for tuners on a budget.

My best friend had a 1996 GT convertible 5 speed. The only thing he added was an X pipe and flowmasters. He bought it barely used with 15,000 miles and if I recall it was around $17,000. Very reasonable. He kept it until about 120,000 miles and it gave him very few problems. The 4.6 was an excellent motor. Even with a modest 215 horsepower it was fun to drive with the manual transmission. The torque made it feel a lot faster than the numbers would suggest. The only thing I didn’t like was the body structure was very flimsy being a convertible. Going over railroad tracks you could see the whole dash move quite a bit. But in the spring and summer it was the most fun you could have for a car that was well under $20k

These are genuinely one of my favorite Mustangs of all time, probably top 3 behind a '69 Mach 1 or GT500, or the SVO.
That said, it is kind of hilarious how outclassed these were for so long. The 5.0 and non PI 4.6s made at LEAST 50 less horsepower than the LT1 F bodies, and even after picking up 50 horsepower in the PI version, they still had damn near 90 less horsepower than the LS1. They didn't even stand a chance until the DOHC Cobras came out, and even those were down almost 50hp until they were supercharged.
