𝄞 It's difficult to use standard chord progressions without creating a sense of storytelling, even if the music is instrumental. Often times as music creators we don't want to take the listener on a dramatic ride but instead want to simply establish a vibe and stay there, with a little movement to keep things interesting. This is something that gives the music of artists like Kiefer, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Omari Jazz, DOMi & JD Beck a combination of exciting textural and production development without leaving the vibe of the initial harmonic area. In order to approach chord progressions in a new way, we'll step outside the major and minor scale and into the Dorian mode. Once we have some new approaches in mind, we'll build a lofi hiphop jazz beat out of two minor9 chords then develop them with chord voicings and rhythmic variations. Finally, we'll add guitar, bass, strings, and a funky lead melody. 𝄢

I've spent hours watching random UA-camrs try to simplify music theory concepts but it either ends up too limiting or too complicated. This video is a perfect balance of both and you've made it super easy to implement into production. You have mastered the youtube tutorial formula and I'm definitely subscribing

This might be the best music theory/production video I've seen on youtube. How the complexity of the progression is scaling through the video is amazing, really easy to learn even for begginers with only the basic concepts of music theory just like me. Also the final product sounds so professional that it gave me a lot of motivation to continue this music production journey I've started at 24, just when I thought I was maybe too old to start... Thanks Jaron

My favourite thing about these videos is that you actually explained the upper extensions and the theory behind them with the modes. It's such a breath of fresh air from the "chord code" "place a note, go up by 2, 3, 1 *whatever*".
Like if you don't wanna learn theory and just want the sound then go off King, I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that learning theory gives you an appreciation for jt and a deeper level of understanding helps every instrument sound homogeneous cuz they all feed off the same material.
This is probably the most informative tutorial I've seen, I feel like it helps view music with the lens of a "real musician" as supposed to "someone who makes music". Amazing video, pls keep teaching like this
