    I so much love the passionate feeling and care these master craftsmen are showing us. Such a dying art. So much each of them is teaching us. Thank you so much. Priceless.

    I usually love what he does but this mirror would look 100% better just plain top ,,

    He should look in to getting shim stock. I can assure you he can get metal a lot thinner than a razor blade.

    I would have left that plain.. I'd also have put some sort of design on the front when its closed. Japanese wall paper would be in keeping with the ebonising..

    So how to paint a mirror frame black ebonise usually involves blackening the tannins of the wood

    It’s hard to believe that mirror will bring £800-1,200 pounds. It’s amazing how much money some of these antiques go for…..expensive.

      Depending on the current trending fashion, they might go worthless when not in trend like those oak kitchen cabinets that used to be in only multi million dollar homes but now you have to pay to take it off you.

    what did it cost to restore drew

      When they can make a TV show out of it, cost probably doesn't matter.

      Try vinegar with steel wool and paint on an inconspicuous area to test that's true ebonise this is just painting

    That guy does a really good job at everything Drew throws at him. He seems to have a ton of knowledge and skill. That mirror was rough before he got finished with it. It would be nice if maybe they might mention how many hours it takes to rebuild these pieces. I’m just curious 🙂

      The audio sound that came from that mirror being taken apart surely sounded like the glass cracked 😬 What a terrible sound as a restorer of fine antiques. My stomach dropped when I heard that crack sound😄

    we never hear how much his expert restorers charge, if this guy gets less than $100/hour he's a fool

    • @chrismalcomson7640
      @chrismalcomson7640 5 років тому +1

      You've got to be joking. I'd put money on him not getting more than about £250 for the whole job.. The middlemen make all the money... Making a living out of your own creativity is is probably as close to zero as you can get...

      @@chrismalcomson7640 maybe different in the UK, a skilled furniture refinisher here charges a fortune

      @@craigwheller As they should... I'm a cabinet maker and sell most of my work in the US. I travel there 4 times a year at least and I also give master classes right the way accross the US. I rarely go to the UK or europe anymore..

    Tacky as hell, adding that fake dumb sunburst. This is unethical alterations and trickery. Removing the top bow would have been fine but they created something artificial.
