I've been a nail tech for 32 years in Charlotte NC and for ten years I was the only tech in the uptown area... I was swamped.. I had a two month waiting list just for a polish change...it was insane. I couldn't even go out to eat without someone coming up to me and asking would I fit them in...at this point I had been doing nails for nineteen years and I had had enough but now after 12 years, I miss it... now I have no clientele but it's not going to stop me... I'm going to be doing nails and press ons... also going back to school in June for esthitolgy so I can do lashes... I'm bringing out a cabin I have a I'll be having faith in the Lord to bless me with another clientele... Y'all, have faith in the Lord and yourself and you will be blessed...

People are constantly begging me for nails and bragging on my work but I have ZERO confidence in my work. I see every imperfection even if they don't. I want to do nail art so badly but everyone wants plain boring nails but when I show them nails where I let my creativity free flow they gush over them but still only want plain creme colors or French tips. !? Thank you so much for your honest tips, good AND bad.
Hey love!!! I definitely can relate! Most nail artist can to be honest! We love showcasing our work and being creative but they want basic and plain sets. I feel like they try to keep neutral tone sets or it simple because of their lifestyle some people can’t have the lux nails we love to make and thats fine too! But keep doing your thing! Have confidence!!!! Once you get that confidence going your potential will grow tremendously! You got this love! I’m glad i could help! It can be frustrating sometimes. I sold out of press on nails when my store opened but only like 4 or 5 people actually wore sets i made the rest idk. But to be honest most of the time people buy your products just to support you. Watching your video and listening to your advice was awesome and frustrating at the same time! When I started my press on nails business in 2018, I pretty much did everything right that you talked about here, but I only sold 3 sets in 6 months. I still have a ton of unsold sets lying around, because it just wasn't worth incurring the additional fee of relisting them a third time. I either failed at my designs or at finding the right target audience, that's all I can think of.

Girl I’m in the beauty industry for the past 8 years doing hair . I was a college grad with a. Criminal justice degree but my social anxiety has crippled me cause I felt like I couldn’t do my job . I think it was because my first real job I was given a horrible job review only being there for two months I just couldn’t handle being a victim advocate. I felt so ashamed of myself and those people made me feel horrible about myself like I wasn’t smart enough or good enough . I’ve been through some shit losing two brothers over a 10 year period. I’ve fallen and got up again but being almost 34 idk what to do anymore . I took the route doing hair cause I always liked makeup and hair but I’m not that artistic or anything . But I know I’m good but my self confidence crippled me . Again being at the salon doing hair was draining the last piece of energy I had. I was never happy at the salon also working so hard and not changing enough cause my boss screwed me over. I did rent my own chair over time but because I always felt like I wasn’t good enough I was always doubting myself . I took a break for 5 months literally left the country to reset but coming back to work and deal with people I just can’t right now . It feels overwhelming. I actually would love to just work from home but I’m not doing call centers I get a lot of anxiety talking in the phone I just don’t want to interact with anyone . It really sucks. I was interested in doing nails I have a lot of nail stuff I was thinking about doing press on nails and just sell them locally . I don’t want social media and feeling overwhelmed sending it to people I just rather have people come to my house and buy them lol I totally understand the depression . For me it’s all of it . It’s the social anxiety that’s inferring with my success I used to never feel like that I was always a people person but I think with the tragedies and my personal experiences really messed with me .
Hey love! I can completely relate! Please do not overwhelm yourself! We literally are in the same boat and I definitely believe you should do what is best for your mental health and physical health! Put you first! Being an independent contractor (hair, nails, artist in general) is NOT easy and that’s what people do not tell you you have to sell yourself. I hope you find what sets your soul on fire! Life is hectic but remember to always keep your inner peace! Find things that make you happy on a small level then build back up it’s going to take time but once you give yourself that time you need you’ll find that confidence and motivation you need and you’ll be ready to take over the world! Don’t let anyone make you feel any less than you are! No one knows you better than you and you know yourself so trust yourself! 🦋

Hey love! That is definitely a good and new question thank you for asking! You can have as many sets as you want to start off. If you just want 3-4 set to premiere then you can do that. Or you can make 20 or 40 in bulk form in different sizes. But it’s totally up to you. Only take on what you can carry, creating nails can be frustrating and sometimes you’ll have to take a break. Studying every aspect of nails would change your nail experience. Usually if your polish wrinkles you're not using using cohesive products or correct thin layers are good. Study!
Yess I definitely found that out recently! I’m studying because i want to get licensed and start doing full nail services but nail tech school is definitely out my price range rn so I’m free lance learning with courses and Nail text books 😭. Thank you for the helpful info and tips i didn’t no anything about the cohesive products.
@@Ca.milleee I'm doing the same as you are I'm just blessed to have this once in a lifetime to study and work and learn because the truth is nail schools don't teach much if any nail techniques bc they're only required to teach what the states guidelines are which is about chemicals, cleaning properly and nail diseases caused by a number of things. So no matter what tell yourself where there's a will there's a way. If you want to be a tech you will be a tech. You have to believe in yourself and manifest(proactively) your future even when money is an issue. I don't know anybody that doesn't have money issues but you can do it if you put your mind to it and be strong. ❤

@@Ca.milleee this was my biggest setback but I decided to put myself out there and get a front desk job in a nail salon and started showing off my press ons to the managers and owner and proved my loyalty to the salon and now they want to give me a full scholarship to a nail tech school!! @@mariahjane7969 thank you sooo much i needed this today. I’m working on getting into nail tech school now but not having financial aid is stressing me out. Trying to find funding for schools that aren’t accredited by FASFA is definitely frustrating to the core.
@@Ca.milleee this was my biggest setback but I decided to put myself out there and get a front desk job in a nail salon and started showing off my press ons to the managers and owner and proved my loyalty to the salon and now they want to give me a full scholarship to a nail tech school!! Blessed is an understatement ❤️

I ended up buying things like thank you stickers and 'fragile' stickers on Mercari. Maybe try selling unused nail and packaging supplies on places like Poshmark and Mercari and see if that helps with the bulk of it all.
