I was living in Building E this year, but was later moved to Building B, so I decided to film footage of my old flat before it was officially checked out. Big shoutout to my friend who helped me film her flat in Building G!

*Apologies for the shaking, I get nervous when I see my crush and apparently I have a crush on all of you, but I will do better next time to control it.
Bamboo, thank you so much for the dorm tour. I did my junior year at TAU from 1973-74, and was there during the Yom Kippur War. I have some good stories from those days. Long time ago, I know. The dorms looked pretty similar to what they are now. If I remember correctly I was in Dorm A, 4th floor, across from the dorm building with the laundry room. Still so few machines. The kitchen area faced the street. Across the street were the university buildings. The balconies overlooked the grassy sunken quad. Back then there was no wi-fi, of course, security was pretty lax, refrigerators were the small "student" size, and overnight guests, a/k/a musical dorm rooms, were very popular. The university provided toilet paper, but hot water for showers was in short supply. I guess with the upgraded security, feral cats visiting dorm rooms and eating your food is a thing of the past. What are now referred to as "donation rooms" underground at the ends of the quad were, and I suppose still are, bomb shelters. Spent some time down there during the war.
I'm currently writing a memoir about that year, and using my journal as a reference. I haven't been back to Israel since that year. There was a small eatery surrounded by jail-like bars across the street from the dorms. We referred to it, cleverly enough, as "The Jail." It sounds like the small grocery store down the back stairs from the dorms is still there, as is the Supermarkeet, a little further on. During the war we had to wait in line for food, not unlike the early days of the pandemic, but could get only very limited amounts of food, and they closed early in the day. Early each day of the war we could choose from a variety of places to do volunteer work to fill in for the labor force fighting the war. One day I worked in the Aviv Matzo factory. Another couple of days at the T'nuva warehouse/distribution center in downtown T.A. where we could each take home a box of produce at the end of the day. I spent a few days in Kibbutz Givim helping out in the fields, mostly stomping down loads of newly-harvested cotton.
That was a very special year for everyone, especially for me. I hope your time there is just as special...but without the war.
Best wishes,
Jeff Heston
Hi Jeff, I cannot believe I've only just seen your comment!
It's crazy to realize that the overall layout of the dorms has not changed after all these years. There's definitely upgraded security now, but nothing stands in the way of Tel Aviv's cute feral cats being invited into dorm rooms by willing roommates, crawling into your lap and somehow making you WANT to give your food to them. Current donation rooms are still bomb shelters, except loaded with many useful and useless things one might probably not need during a bomb drill.
Reading your comment brought back my memories of the dorms, coupled with a time in history I didn't have the chance to experience and can only imagine with the scene you've so beautifully painted here. Although I'm not too sure what volunteer work realistically looked like for you, it seems like an unforgettable experience to have been a part of. Aviv Matzo! T'nuva! (I'm secretly jealous..)
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my video, reading it definitely reminds me to get that ticket to fly back as soon as possible. Best of luck with your memoir Jeff, I can only imagine the beautiful imagery of Tel Aviv it's filled with.
Please feel free to share your memoir whenever you'd like (but only if you don't mind), as your comment has been a blessing for me and it made my day reading about your time in Tel Aviv under such special circumstances. Thank you once again Jeff!
That donation room though.... so much hidden potential
so. much.
i mostly liked your room cuz it's like veeery aesthetic, more aesthetic then the others :)
hahah thankss, that's definitely before my room got bombarded with clothes that "popped up outta nowhere"
Hi. I am from the Philippines, planning to pursue graduate studies at the Hebrew University later this year. I am so grateful for these pieces of information you shared here. Extremely helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi! Thank you so much for your support, it truly means a lot to hear this!!
Wish you the best of luck in your studies! :))
Yessss 🔥🔥 the long awaited video
Thank thee for ur undying support and guidance HAHHA
OMG, I LOVE THIS. Huge fan from Japan!!
Wait, really?? But it's still hot in Tel Aviv, so your fan in Japan doesn't seem to be working.. :(
Cool SUBSCRIBED
and also really great thumbnail 😃🤩
Thanks so much!! 💛
You are so funny lol, oh and very helpful I live in israel and will go to tau in some years :)
hahah thank you! glad to know i was able to provide some help
this was so helpful! I tried to find videos in Hebrew and was upset when i didn't. Didn't expect to find them in English.😅 anyway, thank you💕
Your roommate is such a lucky person. Oh wait...
no, YOUR roommate is such a lucky person! oh wait................ am I fighting Mariam now? nvm
Hi! I’m going to be a first year, they just announced that first years can be at the broshim dorms, can you do a tour of those dorms too? Love this video by the way :)
Oof! Darn! I would have loved to make a video on it, (my older brother lives in Broshim), but we JUST flew home for the semester...
If it does help though, the total size of the Broshim dorm is around the size of the kitchen + bathroom space of B (and a bit smaller, according to my brother). It's a studio apartment style, and usually comes with a smaller single bed or a convertible sofa-bed. Hope this painted a vague picture for you lol
And thanks so much!! Appreciate it :))
oh im from manila philippines 😀
hi!!
Hahaha laughing out loud 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Hi! Im going next semester! Do you know a site or something I can find to stay outside campus? It will be very helpful. Or just how can I get roommates outside campus?
Hey!! Woo thats exciting! When I was looking for housing outside of campus, joining multiple Facebook groups helped a lot. There's a ton of groups on Facebook that list different housings, and some are also groups for people to find roommates or looking for people to join in their shared apt. Most of the people I know go to Facebook groups to look for housing, if you need suggestions on which groups to join, lmk!
Yoo im going on exchange for the spring semester starting Feb 2021, nice video! Btw how much do you pay for dorms? And are there are any other dorm buildings?
Helloo! I pay $600 USD per month in the Einstein dorms (as a full-time international student), and there's also the Broshim dorms which cost more (at $800 USD) but for a single studio apartment.
There are other dorm buildings in Einstein dorms which I didn’t cover in this video, (since I can only live in so many places lmao) but they’re only open to students in the local program, and not to students in the international program.
Hope this helps!
Hey! I really want to apply for a gap year program at Tel Aviv University next year (Fall 2021) but I`m not familiar with the Covid situation in Israel. How is the school coping with the situation atm and is it worth going despite corona? I'm asking cause the year will be hella expensive lmao. Hopefully you'll see this
Hi! I just saw this hahaha
Currently the school is hosting classes through Zoom, and I think they are aiming to reach a hybrid situation (having both in-person and online classes) if situations with the pandemic allows. I think whether or not it is worth going to would depend on what your priority is (the academic aspect, the cultural aspect, etc). But personally for me, I think if you are flying to TAU for the gap year, experiencing culture in the Middle East would definitely make it worth it. I hope this helped a bit, but if you have any other questions I would be more than happy to answer them through Instagram! (or else you would be forced to read my chunky UA-cam comments hahaah)
@@bampoopoo Thanks for the answer! I have some more questions so Instagram would probably be nice hahah
所以這是所謂600美金一個月的en suite shared bedroom@@ Expensive ah ~
hello bamboo. im planning to send my son for his bs degree specifically bs in mechanical engineering. this vlog helps me alot gave me ideas about dorms inside campus. i just want to ask if is it safe to study in tel aviv? any shooting incidents or terrorist attacks inside campus? thank you so much
hi! I can't speak for what it's like now, but when I was a student there the campus was safe and they always had security checks at the campus enrance. (hope this wasn't too late of a response!)
I enjoyed the video. Just wondering where you guys "hide" your valuable items (money, gold, etc!!!!). Wardrobes without key holes, no safes....
Thankfully I was blessed with amazing roommates that became my close friends!!
@@bampoopoo I was wondering, just in case...
What do you study at TAU international ? I want to pursue Liberals Arts
Hey sorry for the late reply! I responded to you on Instagram but not on here yet lol
