Method 1: Directly Restore Deleted Files on Mac from Trash via “Put Back” Option
If you drag a file to the trash or right-click on the file and click “Delete”, If you haven’t emptied the trash can yet, and deleted the files recently, the file can be easily restored by the following simple steps:
1. Click on the Trash Bin icon on your desktop, and you can see the deleted files are listed there.
2. When find the target files, drag them to the desktop, or right-click on them and select "put back" option to recover deleted files on Mac from trash. The file will be returned to its original location.
Method 2: Recover Deleted Files on Mac with Undo Options
If you accidently deleted important files, you can easily restore them on Mac by "Undo" option if you don't do anything else. But only if you take this action immediately after deleting the files. And it is invalid after emptying the trash or permanently deleting it. There are 2 simple ways.
(1) Just go to “Edit” and select the “Undo Move” option.
(2) Or you can straightaway use Command + Z key to undo the delete operation.
Method 3: Recover Deleted Files on Mac Terminal
Besides, Apple’s terminal application can also help to recover deleted files on Mac. To restore deleted files on Mac via Terminal, follow these steps.
Step 1: Go to "Applications", and click "Utilities" to open Terminal
Step 2: Type command “cd .Trash” and press "Return" key on your Mac
Step 3: Input "mv xxx../" and hit "Return". (xxx means the name of deleted file)
Step 4: Type “Quit” in the Terminal
After that, go to the "Finder" window, enter the name of the deleted file in the search bar and hit Enter, the deleted file will appear. Select it and save it to a safe location.
Please note that Terminal command can recover deleted files on Mac, but only from Trash. So if the trash was emptied, Terminal command is invalid.
Method 4: Restore Deleted Files Mac Without Software via Time Machine Backup
But if you deleted files on Mac and even empty the trash bin, you might be flustered. But luckily to tell you that you can recover deleted files on Mac via Time Machine. Time Machine application is Apple’s backup solution for the Mac. If you have enabled Time Machine backup
Then you can recover trash on Mac even if folder was emptied.
1st, launch Time Machine on your Mac. You can click on the icon in the menu bar and choosing Enter Time Machine, or search for Time Machine using Spotlight.
2nd, you can find the specific files you wish to restore using the onscreen up and down arrows to locate it. Then you can preview it and confirm the files is the one you want by pressing Space Bar.
Finally, click “Restore” button, and then the deleted file will be returned to its original location.
Method 5: Recover Deleted Files from Emptied Trash on Mac with Recoverit data recovery
Step 1: After installation of Recoverit for Mac, launch it and select “Trash” location to get started.
Step 2: It will start scanning the trash folders to find your files, it might take for seconds or minutes.
Step 3: After the scan, it will display all the recovered files, you can preview the target files and click “Recover” button to restore the deleted files on Mac.

I've a 2019 macbook air and this method didn't work out for me

He says at the end "But if the trash has been emptied, then this method will not work". At that point, why even suggest this method??? If someone has put something in the trash, but not emptied it, then have them open the dang trash bin, find the item (use the search bar if necessary), and drag that sucker onto the desktop.

Another way to recover lost, deleted files. This only works if you do this within 24 hrs of the time of your lost. This worked for me ... Per Mac use the Recovery Mode:
Click on Apple logo, top left of your screen.
Select Restart.
Immediately hold down the Command and R keys and release after the startup has started.
Eventually your Mac will show the Recovery Mode Utilities window with three options, I used the first. NOTE: You Mac will will boot-up will take you back 24 hrs. So if you added something today, let's say videos or photos etc. there is a good chance they will not be there after booting up. If you question my advice Goole it .... Trust But Verify . ;-) ..

It didn't recover my files. I was writing some books and thought I had a backup but it didn't back up properly. I've lost the file with all my novels i've half written in. Not happy. It found 200,000 files none of them were any of my pages docs of writing.

I deleted a load of files yesterday then emptied my trash only to discover I had deleted and emptied and important Excel spreadsheet. After watching this video I attempted the free trial with Recover It. After about more than an hour it recovered a load of deleted files from my emptied trash, but not the file I accidentally deleted only yesterday or within the past month even. I did find other files to recover though and when I tried to recover them I had to sign up at $79.95 to $119.95! So much for the free trial and so much for not finding the file I deleted yesterday. :-/
