  • If you place your files, pictures & videos into the trash and then click empty, this doesn't completely delete all information of your SSD internal storage some of the data is being compressed and stored on your internal computer drive forever.
    Type in this simple command line into your terminal application and drag any file or folder you wish to erase forever of your Mac computer without leaving any trace on your internal drive.
    Command-line is simple (rm -rf)

    I can't remove some folders. I have an NTFS external disk to be read on the iMac. I use Tuxera NTFS software and have never had any problems creating, deleting or moving files/folders.
    But there are folders that are in no way possible to remove. I've already tried with CleanMyMac (Space Lens function and Shredder function) and with Terminal, but it still gives a "permission" error. I have all permissions.
    I do not know what else to do. I didn't want to format the disk obviously. I just want to remove some folders.

    Thanks for your videos. I upgraded today do Monterrey, and up until today, pressing command + delete would send the file directly to the trash. Now I am getting an annoying confirmation message and did not find a way to get rid of it. Any ideas? Thanks a lot

      Sorry man can't help with. Not sure what would cause that message. Try checking a small box, that says "Don't ask next time or again" next time you get confirmation message

    This is merely skipping the intermediate step of moving the file to the trash folder, prior to deleting it. Using the old DOS style commands, causes "deletion" of the file sitting where it is at on the HD, after which the file physically remains, but the computer is instructed to consider that spot available for new data writing. The file is still on the HD and can be recovered. Only an overwrite with ones and zeros of this precise file position on that HD will make the file unrecoverable. This can be accomplished by explicitly overwriting with random 1s and 0s with "secure delete" software, or...new data such as programs, graphic files, etc could be written to that location, thus overwriting the file that was there previously. Unfortunately with this method, you cannot specifically instruct a movie for example, to be written onto the precise spot on the HD; it would be merely by chance that it was written on top of that old file. This is my understanding. If I am wrong, I welcome teaching.

    I have a list of jpg images I need to delete. The list has 22,000 items on it, the folder has 49,000 in it. Is there a way to have terminal reference the files in my txt file and delete only those?

    Hi Paul, I am one of those most people LOL who just drag their files to the trash and then empty it. I have been doing this forever but I have been wondering if I can find these files (even when the trash bin was emptied) somewhere through this terminal app and then delete them for REAL ?

    Question : I permanent erased a file (by writing 0 and 1 over it with 3 pass algorithm). When I used Stellar Data Recovery to see if I could recover the deleted file, I found that the Stellar software found the name of the file and the size, let's say Titanic.avi 350 Mo, but said that the file was corrupted. Is there a way to permanent delete not only the core of the file but also the data linked to that file, like the name or the size ? Thanks.

    Hi, I made a terrible error on my MacBook Pro (mid 2010 high sierra )... before time to bed, I've tried Ukulele real quick, I didn't know how to use it, it didn't word and by mistake I've put a bundle file in the library of os System. Now my keyboard is not working (many inactive keys) so I use accessibility keyboard. There is absolutely no way to delete this file in System ( rm or sudo rm and dragging the file in terminal did nothing) ? And I can't with recovery mode ( com + r isn't working) thanks

    • @tronixster
      @tronixster  Рік тому

      I'm sorry man that sounds terrible. If your computer is backed up to the cloud you might just need to fully reinstall OS and use your iCloud backup.
