Frederik, who recently celebrated his 56th birthday as the king of Denmark, followed the tradition of stepping onto the balconies of Amalienborg Palace to receive birthday wishes from his people. Accompanied by Queen Mary and their four children, Frederik also surprised his wife with a special gift: the cross of Grand Commander of the Order of Dannebrogorden, the highest rank of the order, which is only awarded to royalty.
