Hi John , " It's played by the soul & not in the hand " is the statement I always maintain to this day... That lyric right there is what I tried to tell my colleague when I was trying to teach him as he had zero emotions when playing & still to this day I believe the bass guitar is an instrument you can't just pick up & play as you need to invest emotions into every bass part , even if it's a very basic bass line because if you don't it sounds empty & wooden & devoid of an emotion put into each bass part & for me it's part soul but with an extra side portion of heart as anyone who doesn't put emotioon & heart into their bass lines will not sound organic & full of great emotional sounds we can get from a bass guitar... I have to say you really dug out a lot of different styles but still making sure there was emotional content & this crosses over this meaning in various we can interpret in life as even Bruce Lee knew you had to put emotional content when fighting or he as a martial artist wouldn't have any flow in how he commanded his body.... In fact Bruce got to the level were he didn't even need to think what to do as his mind & body were one & he could strike without even think about it & he trained his mind & body in the same way top musicians would do but then taking that & expanding on what he had gotten to at that point... It's sad to think that when Bruce Lee passed away he , at that time , was not the finished article & was always thriving to be better each & every year & though many thought he was already way ahead of his time don't take the time to listen to him properly as even Bruce knew he still had a long road of self discovery & of constantly trying to better at his fform of martial arts just in the same way musicians aren't happy at just reaching at a certain level , as there's always levels higher if one chooses to truly test their ability in whatever they do... I've got to give out a shout to the late great Frances Rocco Prestia as there was a way in his playing & his use of time that fascinated me & yet again we lose another of bass greats but at least like many in this upload that passed away left a heavy set of foot prints for those willing to take the bass guitar to another level & as much as love what they brought to the table I always find it hard to accept when they are gone & it's only those who know about how these bassists gave us... The mention of a famous singer thar died & the world is in a state of such out powering love & flowers & cards along with fans outside there home & the media are also all over it but did the the News even mention the passing of many a great bassist like Louis Johnson & Rocco & there's next to non mention of their passing but then again they played the bass guitar for the love of it & not soome fleeting adulation... You managed to put quite a different amount of bass guitars to pull this one off & it must have been tiring on you but what a great combo of all the greats in one upload & did so in a manner that gave the listener a taste of each of these bassists & Thank You for doing this & taking the time to do this but then again you must must have felt the music flow threw you to bring this all to life as one can just phone in a bass line & not matter how busy or simple that bass line is you played them with feeling & thats what I've tried to tell new bassists through the decade to do when playing because if they don't invest part of themselves in each song they are going to sound lifeless & boring... As Always You Knocked It Out Of The Park & hit a Home Run of what all those bassists not only gave us but still continue to do so & that we can decide to keep their style & sound alive... I'm not saying this in a defeatest way but for us & many others it's about taking us back to a time of God's of golden bass players & I can't remember the last time I listened to a song during today's Music Industry & I find myself constantly going back in time to the days we had an innumerable amount of talented musicians that covered all the parts of music & the many genres it gave us but sadly now its as I said & thats going back in time as current musicians is going nowhere & I find my spare time going back to the past with regards music & how in all its genre it ruled the airwaves but after the 90s it just dropped off the radar & hence why younger listeners are now into these solo acts & bands & at least we can take heart from the fact younger listeners are digging up music from the past... I could add more but that's enough to get my comments across & why ij think Music is being kept alive by the youth of today searching in the past for the music that can easily stand up & be counted even to this very day... A great mixture of players & styles within this upload & i hope those listening get the same feeling we do when we hear these artists & what they gave us to pass on to the next generation & they pass it onto the next gen & so on as that the only way i see music of the past being passed on by each generation as I'd hate to live in a world devoid of music & free expression... I have to say this is one of Your Best uploads for all the musicians & the style they used & if anyone who when in my presence disrespect the bass guitar I'm going to show them this... My apologies for not being in contact for nearly 4 weeks as I was seriously ill with that Novavirus & because my immune system was so low because of this my body couldn't keep other illnesses & viruses that are out at this time but thankfully I've gotten them out of my system but it'll take a little while to get back to how my body should be as the viruses may have gone but they sure as hell left all the I'll after effects but I should be fine in about 1 month & there's those that are worse off from what I had & I hope they too recover & are back on their feet ASAP... Hi Paul, Great to hear from you! don't feel obligated to respond, you told me you were sick a few weeks ago. Hope you are feeling better now and hope that you will keep it that way. This video was really great to record. Just using all my basses to create the right sound was fun, also the playing on the fretless acoustic Bass was fun, and of course adding Mark King to this video who is not in the original. I needed to practice for the Staley Clarke Licks, they are pentatonic scales but played very fast. I was also pretty exited to put this on line, have worked on this video for 2 1/2 weekss including the learning. I was impressed by the sound of the fretless bass. Mayby I try to do a whole Jacco Pastorius song. Did some bars of portrait of Tracy, but I guess I don't have the Patience to learn the whole song. Great to hear from you again and thank for watching. All the best and stay safe. Best Regards, John
Haha, thanks Andy! I spend a lot of time on this video, so I am glad you found it. Later this afternoon there will be another great Bass video from Victor Wooten with a solo which I had to practice for 4 weeks, all the best and have a great weekend.
Hey Johnny!! really great job! man that must have been alot of fun to put this togheter....Top tribute to our Hero,s!! but i gues until now you are the only who pulled this off! Tip of my hat to you!!!🤠
Hi Johm, Thank you so much! This was indeed some work to put this together. The Stanley Clarke licks where hard to play. But it was really great to do this and finally find a track where I could use all my basses. Have a great weekend!
Hi Matthew, I personally like the fretless Bass. I bought it very cheap just to try. But sounds really great. Was fun to put this together! All the best and thanks for watching!
Hey John, that's a serious amount of effort to pull this together. Oh, to be talented! Great tones and playing! How long did it take you to finish this?
Hi Miles, Just the groove of the bass line was hard to do, and the last pieces of the Stanley Clarke licks on the 6 string. The rest was very do able because it were just small pieces. To use a lot of sounds makes it really fun and listen. After I finished this I did another Victor Wooten track, but with some mistakes in the solo, it just didn't get any better, but also a nice groove - ua-cam.com/video/h9JD40f2iZM/v-deo.html
Great to hear from you!! And yes this took some time. The Stanley Clarke licks needed some time to get them on to that speed. The rest is not that hard to play, but you need to record a lot of small video's and put them together. Creating all the different sounds and using all the basses is really fun to do. And the accoustic part is also not my thing but great to add that. And ofcourse the Mark King piece which is not in the original track. Merci d'avoir regardé et bon week-end ! John

Hi, This is still the same version. It was really fun to put this all together. Some what disappointing that this didn't have many views. Well..........originally I am a keyboard player. I played keys in my first bands. My father played accordeon, and started also on this instrument. And when I was +/- 8 - 9 years old he bought an organ for me. So that's my roots.

I sold my drumkit a few months ago.
I love to play on the Fender Rhodes. I use Plug In's on a midi keyboard from Native Instruments. I like the vintage sounds of the Yamaha DX 7 and the Hammond B3. So when I record songs at home I most of the time use the B3 plug in in combination with a screaming Hammond sound. I am not a great singer. But because I have good ears, it is in tune most of the time, and I can play bass and sing at the same time, but I really had to practice this.

You have to play always not more than necessary. We have to play with big Dutch artists, so you are nothing less than a wallpaper.
Nobody wants me in a band as a bassplayer, I guess because I play all instruments it is maybe intimidating??? I rather play on UA-cam because the audiëntie is bigger and more international. And I can pick songs which a band don't want to play because there are to much opinions and musical tastes. And I hate rehersals.
