It would be so cool to do the exact same thing but with a regular mars black (like the one from Windsor and Newton) to see the differences you get in comparison to the lunar black. Nice video, thank you.
I've been thinking of buying a tube of Lunar Black but kept thinking that I would never use it as I don't use black watercolour but now that I have seen how it mixed I'm going to buy a tube. Really lovely mixes. Really interesting video!
By coincidence I was finishing a landscape painting today and had planned to try Lunar Black with Burnt Sienna hoping the granulation would be in the mix...but I got sidetracked and never did get around to it. So glad you made this video today! Now I'll really have to play around with my beloved Lunar Black (great for painting White Birch tree trunks) :D) Thanks!
All I can say is that if Daniel Smith continues to release these earthier colors, I'm going to go broke! I bought the Moonglow and Rare Green Earth and I just want to swim in them! lol! I haven't tried the Lunar Black, but seeing you work with it makes me want it now. lol! That's good, right? :) Thank you for the charting and good to hear your thoughts on this one! Cheers and hoping all is well! :)
M.D. Campbell Thanks Mark, Im loving the plays with paint. I could do them all day! In fact was inspired by Denis to compile swatches in a binder and it took me the whole day to do this. I feel better having the majority of it sorted. I’m showing here that a lot of those convenience mixes that Daniel Smith makes, you can do them at home with what you have. Save $$ 😁👍

You just convinced me to try Lunar Black! Some mixes look stunning, could you post a list of the colours you used?
Gorgeous granulation!!
Beautiful and a great idea for a video! Thanks for making it.
Agnieszka Nawrocka Thanks And Im glad you liked it :)

Twigga lina thanks and I hope you enjoy how much fun it is to play with this pigment :)

Bev Roberts Birch trunks! Great idea! So glad to help inspire.
Some of those mixes are really beautiful. I especially like the Perylene violet mix. Cobalt violet is one of my favorites to mix with Lunar black.
Britt Schuler Oh you’re right! I wish I had tried more purples. I thought of this same thought after finishing the video. I did far too many yellows.
I may need to invest in some DS paints in the future.
