    We going Costa Rica in September on Caribbean coast Puerto area what set up you need for surf fishing we from UK got different type of fishing here. We got some telescopic 8-9 foot rods, 8-12pb line? Mono. You lads using live bait or spinners?

      @@TheMattleech for tackle, I think 12 lb is pretty light you may run into some trouble keeping fish out of rocks and structure but if your fishing areas with little to no structure you might be ok. Personally I wouldn’t use anything lighter than 15lb braid. I recommend using live bait when possible but lures will work too. Find birds circling or bait balls and you WILL find fish.

      Hey Jason we mostly focused on catching live bait with sabiki rigs and cast nets. This was by far the most productive method to catch fish.

      I have seen better chances using bait instead of lures tho.

      This was in Jaco, Costa Rica. Which is probably one of the most popular beach towns in the country. We caught the bait on sabiki rigs and sometimes a cast net. I think the baitfish were Pacific Herring but I’m still not 100% sure. The fishing there is great. Try to get away from pressured areas and you will have luck

      Animal bro, im From CR.
      If you go around Punta Islita you can rent an atv and go around coyote and if its not rainy season you can even drive down to rio Bongo, the best around for snook. But literally anywhere in Guanacaste its good.
      Im sure you will have lots of fun and fish.

    Nice catch!!! Can you please give me techniques and rigs and how many pounds test line and bait. I travel to Costa Rica alot

    • @finfurfeather2238
      @finfurfeather2238  10 місяців тому +2

      Hey Brandon! Some major tips I would give from my time in CR is to focus most of your attention on locating areas with fish. look for birds, pelicans, and schools of baitfish. If you can find birds and bait together, you know there are bigger fish around. Also target places where rivers flow into the ocean. As far as tackle is concerned, I love to catch live bait either with a sabiki rig or a castnet. For the setup, I use at least 4-5 feet of 30lb fluorocarbon leader tied to 20lb braid or higher as the main line. I try to use smaller hooks and swivels that the fish cannot see as easily. J hooks or Circle hooks work fine. If you are able to cast to where the birds/baitfish are without a weight, do it. If you have to use a weight, go as light as possible. Less is more. Hope this is helpful!

      @finfurfeather2238 THANKS!!! what time of year were you there? Or what month? What's the common bait fish there? Did you go off the high and low tide scale for that day or you just went like whatever? Lol

    Are there any poison fishes ? I go there next week ?

    • @finfurfeather2238
      @finfurfeather2238  8 місяців тому

      @viehlee Sorry I missed your comment. There are poisonous fish on both sides of Costa Rica but depending on which side you go to they will be different. I spend most of my time on the pacific side and there are poisonous pufferfish, eels, rays, and stonefish. I think lion fish too. Be mindful handling fish that you catch most have pointy spines loaded with bacteria. I’m not an expert so be sure to do your own research. Hope this helps. Tight lines 🎣

    • @finfurfeather2238
      @finfurfeather2238  7 місяців тому +1

      @jhill6033 hope you had some better luck. If you’re still there try to find some live bait. I have found that I typically only catch fish when I can see pelicans diving or fish busting on the surface. Otherwise live bait is key. Tight lines

    Men you have to fishing near to the clinic of Jaco. Big snooks and roosters fish. And use bugtail jig with plastic tail.
