@@angellady7773 Everything Gem has a pattern of growth, like a thumbprint. Lab created are easy spotted they’re grown like a crystal so have rings formed like a tree trunk rather than irregular crystalline structures. I hope that helped explain,how. 😊

I have to say I am largely unimpressed with the Gemlogis gem tester. Learning the color ranges of stones is not difficult. You said that it reads the color of the stone, but then you have select the color of the stone to get a list of possibilities. If this is how it works, then it is basically a super expensive stone database of sorts. I will go read what I can find on this tester.

@@shadyny I’m glad that you could return it! I could not find info on that particular model. Gemlogis seems to be better known for diamond testers, and they have a few models of those and gem testers. I just could not find specific info on how they work. I felt like I was falling down a rabbit hole in the time I spent searching the internet. I probably should have gone to amazon, but wound up on their website. 🤷♀️ I have looked at various gem testers before, but I have not found any that work better than the Presidium II. All natural and man made stones will register somewhere on the Presidium, but there is not enough room to have every stone listed on the indicator. You must have a decent stone knowledge base to get the most benefit from the device. At least be familiar with the stones listed on the indicator, and some other stones commonly used in jewelry construction.

I have this gem tester and I noticed that all my cubic zirconia will land on the line for “Garnet, Tourmaline and iolite.” I know that Bella Luce from JTV is definitely cubic zirconia and I thought it would test as “glass,” but it tests as “Garnet, Tourmaline and Iolite” on the Presidium Gem Tester II so that is disappointing. Any advice to figure out if the my gems are really garnet, tourmaline and iolite when cubic zirconia gets the same reading with this tester?
Allso, will all kinds of garnet such as Tsavorite, Demantoid, Spessartite, Pyrobe, Almadine, Rhodolite, Hessonite and all other varieties of garnet all test as “Garnet,” on the Presidium Gem Tester II?
The Gem Tester is a guide at best. Not all CZ's test right above the glass line. Some don't even test at all. It can be very confusing. The best thing to do is to read what the gemstones reads on the hardness scale and use that to ready the Presidium. At least that is what I do. Not all stones read the same exact for me either. Good luck in this confusing gemstone world. I struggle too!

I have the Presidium Gem Tester II and in my experience the Presidium Gem Tester II is only good to test diamonds, moissanites, and Corundum, which includes sapphires and rubies. It’s an overpriced tool for only testing these three since there are less expensive tools to only test diamonds, moissanites and Corundum (sapphires and rubies). I only bought the Presidium Gem Tester II to test other gemstones beyond diamonds, moissanites and corundum such as garnets, tourmalines, tanzanites and more. Unfortunately, the Presidium Gem Tester II doesn’t accurately test most of my garnets, tourmalines, tanzanites and cubic zirconia. In most cases, my garnets, tourmalines, tanzanites and CZ are testing in the glass range or barely in the range of “Garnet, Tourmaline and iolite.” Yes, my gemstones were purchased from reputable sources and reputable jewelry stores, not from online sellers so I know that the Presidum Gem Tester II is inaccurate for testing Garnets, Tourmalines, tanzanites and cubic zirconia. Some Cubic Zirconia will test in the glass range and and some CZ will test in the Garnet range on the Presidium Gem Tester II. However, the Presidium Gem Tester II in my experience is only able to test diamonds, moissanites, and Corundum (sapphires and rubies), which I can do easily with the following cheap tool that you can buy on eBay or Amazon for under $20 that also reads the hardness of the stone on the Moh’s Scale. So, I wasted over $300 on the Presidium Gem Tester II when it doesn’t test anything more than diamonds, moissanites and corundum (sapphires and rubies) when I can easily do this with the following cheap tool: www.ebay.com/itm/402930298513?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=lrMFKwCXQvK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=kqjeYMWMRCO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY.
I don’t think the Gemlogis is worth it. I think a colour gem chart would do the same thing.
