Tim Akkerman ( the man with the beard) wrote this song for his brother who is in a wheel chair. His brother always has a positive outlook on life. Tim all through the show was saying he doesn't get emotional and cry. At the end of the song he says "Verdomme Floor" Damn it Floor. He then goes on to say the name of his new album is Lions don't cry. Tim has also gone through some hard ships lately and Floor sang it to him to remind him he is a winner as well. Credit to Denise Hofs channel on You Tube. She took the time to put English subtitles to all the shows this year so more people could understand the show. With out it I wouldn't know any of this.
My brother was in a wheelchair his whole life, so this song really hit me like a truck when Floor performed it. She puts so much emotion in the songs she sings, it's incredible. The original by Tim can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/YQv0g5SIOpo/v-deo.html . It's from his latest album called "Lions don't cry", which is why he was talking about not getting emotional. And he was right all episode long, until Floor performed the last song of the evening...
@@ElvannReacts Floor also said in the episode that she had to stop looking at Tim as she noticed he was getting emotional, which was making her emotional (Floor is a very emotional person) and you can see her quickly sorting herself at the end.
The song is written by Tim Akkerman (the curlyhaired guy), for his brother who is disabled and confined to a wheelchair. But he has never let that define him. Also, Tim said repeatedly that he couldn't cry (his album even was called "Lions dont cry")... he cried...lol :)
When he said “Damn it Floor!” at the end, it was because she brought him to cry. Later he added that she has ruined the album title (Lions don’t cry) 🤣😉
This woman made with Nightwish made me listen to music again and she is just wonderfull never has so many emotions dragged out of me lol She is Amazing :-)
This is my favorite from her Beste Zangers performances. She gives us so much FLOOR in this. It's a great song written by Tim. That ending though.... she's phenomenal
I've listened to Tim's original version of this and it is good. He also deserves all the credit in the world for writing this beautiful song and the meaning behind it, but once you hear Floor's version, you just know this is the way it was meant to be sung. So much power and emotion in her voice and performance, it really takes the song to a different level.
Without knowing any background of the song it was got me with teary eyes at the first time I watched this performance. After I found out the background of the song, it was hit me even harder than before when I listened to it again. Thanks for your reaction by the way.
Floor honored Tim and his wheelchair bound brother with this tour de force, inspirational and emotional rendition presentation. She has has made this show her coming out party to the rest of the music world. She has shown then what a Valkyrie Goddess of Metal truly is, a women with class, grace, empathy and the most talented non-diva there is. We her die-heart fans couldn't be prouder of her and are honored to call her our Queen. Anyone who experiences this Valkyrie force of nature is a winner!!
Everytime I see this clip I crying too, again. Floor has something very special, it'll touches you again and again, no matter how often you'll hear her singing. Thanks for your authentic reaction. Love it.
The keyboard and the drums at the beginning always make me think about "Streets of Philadelphia" from Bruce Springsteen (different tempo of course). Maybe that's why you feel that old 80's-90's vibe.
Thank you for that, I knew there was something that reminded me of Springsteen but I couldn't quite place it since I barely know 1 or 2 songs from him.
Floor can play your heartstrings like a heavenly harp that exquisitely vibrates your soul. Hence the tears. You get them, I get them, pretty much everyone gets them. What a woman! Thank you for your reaction, well done!
Besides here tone to me that's the magic of floor. She has so many different tools at her disposal and she uses them all in the exact perfect spots and amounts. Never too much or too little just exactly what the song needs when it needs it.
Everytime when i listen to Floor performing Winner i get tears in my eyes and when a wonderful spontaneous girl like you reacts to this with emotion than it gets really tough to not cry. Beautiful reaction. Rarely saw such a true and real reaction. The excellent thing is you were surprised by yourself and possibly a little embarrassed which made it even more perfect because so totally unplanned. You're a genius reactor!
I totally agree with you. It is so much about dynamics of the music and the vocal colors. From intense to soft from aggressive to soothing. Floor has a way of making the songs very personal. I think that her time spent training in musical theater is a big part of her magic. The way she moves, her facial expressions, and the vocal nuances all add layers to her vocal performances. I have never seen or experienced a vocalist that can touch so many people in such an emotional way. It is like she has a way of communicating directly with your soul. Being a wonderful and talented singer in your own right, I think you may understand where I am coming from? beautifully done Elvann! By the way, I love the your name!
Hello Elvann, you're great at this so keep doing it, there is so much music that I think you can relate to. thanks for this reaction and hope to see another one soon
Floor and her crazy range and ability is what has caused me to delve into vocals - The physics and the human anatomy that makes sound possible. I am in the medical field and have intubated, suctioned, manipulated, administered medications via the nasal passages, you name it - even sliced the cricothyroid membrane - only once in a live patient, lots of times on cadavars... But until Floor I really never gave much thought to how sound was produced from the trachea on up. Why does it matter? Because she demonstrates beautifully how sound travels as a wave; how shaping a cavity alters sound. How controlling diaphragm muscle for breath control allows long, beautiful sustained efforts... How relaxing the neck allows more control... all of it. It is mastery of self, mastery of physics, and it sounds absolutely sublime. False chords, tight vocal chords, lowering the jaw, tongue placement, shoulder placement, chest placement... all of it. I can see why it takes decades - not years, but decades - to become as proficient as Floor Jansen has become. I hope my hearing can hold out longer... as it is fading... To finally appreciate the nuances and lose the sensation is a real bummer. Beethoven could relate.
Now watch it in context of why Floor picked it. Watch Denise's translated video within this starting at where Floor and Tim are talking about the song. Then you'll see the reason it's so powerful of a performance.
There is definitely a 80's vibe to it, the guitar "shuffle" is very 80's and fitted perfectly with that, what Floor was doing vocally. It actually ridiculous if you think about it, no matter what song she touches, she makes it her own, makes it different but still as strong as the original, sometimes even stronger. (but never less than equal to the original). Now, i do have a theory on this song, the way it builds up, slowly taking the time needed to get ready, get things in position for the next step, to finally end in the climax... Tim wrote this for his Brother, the lyrics are about his brother, his daily struggles, building up to things that have to be done, slowly taking the time needed to get ready, get his things in position (braces, wheelchair) to finally having overcome that, every day, his entire life, ends in the climax of praise Tim gives his brother, the song IS his brother.. so to speak ofc. And then Floor comes along, and takes that what is dearest to Tim, and gives him this ... godly present No wonder she was able to break Tim "the unbreakable" Akkerman. Ty for yet another lovely reaction Elvann :) On till the next one :D
This whole song is amazing, but one of my favorite things which you also touched on is how quickly she goes from near 100% power to that light, breathy "you're a winner" at the end.
Floor is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I found her in the early 2000's when she was part of After Forever (you should check it by the way). She's absolutely amazing.
To sing to each other makes it so emotional. As mentioned by others you have to see the translated show by Denise Hofs. The same was happening by the song of Ruben, that's she was singing in Episode 3 and the song that Emma was singing in the episode that Floor was on the couch in episode 4.
Just in case you haven't heard, Floor has a new project called Northward with the guitarist from Pagans Mind. It's all old style hard rock and they have 3 singles out. I'm gonna tell you, though, that to ear Floor pull out the rasp, the breathiness and the screams, it's Que Se Siente that you want.
Floor is so good it's scary! I just fall in love with her more every time. There are very few singers who can make me emotional, but she does it almost every time regardless of the genre!!! And I'm A metal head.

I thought it reassembled 80s rock too, but only the good parts of 80s rock. Tim's version had the same vibe, but Floor really brought it to a new level! The rasp she used was perfectly placed and fit the moment so well. Tim wrote this for his wheelchair bound brother. Floor said she didn't want to look at Tim while singing it for fear of the emotions she'd feel, but looked at him and was able to intensify the emotion in the vocals even more. She sang it for Tim as he's also "a winner" and that helped her connect with the lyrics. Perfection! Tim said he wouldn't cry during his week on the couch. That's why he says "Dammit Floor!" when she's done. Seriously my new favorite song right now! I want so badly to hear Floor and Tim perform it together!
Really enjoyed this and your other reactions. May I suggest you to react to every of her performances in this show? She brings something unique in every single one of them!
Wonderful song already in the original, and Floor made it once more to a mindblowing event! Damned, where all these onions suddenly came from... Very nice reaction also from you, dear Elvann! We have very much common taste in music, so glad to have found your channel:-)❤
Floor knows Tim Akkerman whom she sang to well. They were both in the first year of the Rock Academy that was just starting. Later on they met each other regularly on rock festivals (as artists). She also knew about Tim's brother being wheelchair bound. Tim wrote this song to honour his always positive minded brother.
Others have already told you about this song. So, A few other songs to check out: Emma Heesters - Strong from Beste Zangers (Floor wrote song for her mom with chronic pain) Henk Poort - Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers Revamp - Wildcard live at Bloodstock 2014 (Floor is singer)
Great reaction. You should react to all her songs in BZ, every one of them is really good.

You're right. Drum rudiments and synth sounds could've been from the 80's Toto albums. Speaking of which.. what if she covered Toto's Africa. She could easily pull off both singers' parts.

I want so badly to hear Floor and Tim perform it together!
such a great pure reaction
WHEN A PERSON CRIES AND THE FIRST DROP OF TEARS COMES FROM THE RIGHT EYE,iT'S HAPPINESS.
IF IT'S FROM THE LEFT,IT'S PAIN
BUDDHA
0:20 hahaha you did it anyway, don't be sorry. Great Reaction, i like your input :)
Hey, glad you found your way here too and you appreciate my reactions!
Nice, this went #1 the next day on iTunes in the Netherlands. I think she had 3 back to back #1's a week apart in the Netherlands on iTunes.
Yup, your reaction is pretty much par for the course with this song.
Not a dry eye to be had. 😊
Awesome.
subscribing because your sound quality is awesome
This version...o my God
Matching your eye-shadow to your headphones. I knew there was a reason to subscribe :-)
Can't wait to see what you think of Marko(bass) and Floor singing together. Romanticide would be my first suggestion.
Nice reaction. Good song, strong vocal, and I really enjoyed Floor's moves as her stage presence in this performance.
Others have already told you about this song. So, A few other songs to check out:
Emma Heesters - Strong from Beste Zangers (Floor wrote song for her mom with chronic pain)
Henk Poort - Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers
Revamp - Wildcard live at Bloodstock 2014 (Floor is singer)
Great reaction. You should react to all her songs in BZ, every one of them is really good.
You're right. Drum rudiments and synth sounds could've been from the 80's Toto albums. Speaking of which.. what if she covered Toto's Africa. She could easily pull off both singers' parts.
love your reactions, clearly top 5 on TY if you ask me. thank you for doing this
love her love her lover, not just her voice her moves all the performance is amazing, she is in another league drive me crazy
Oh, I love your accent! Where are you from? ...Whoops, I edited this after - French-Canadian I see! Great! Hello from Alberta! It's pretty cool to meet another Nightwish fan!!! I see you sing opera, too. Any recommendations? I'm just getting into it... listening the the Marriage of Figaro, 1968 German Grammaphone version, ha ha.
This really should become a theme song for something...anything... Everything?
