- Who would win in a fight between four of the heroes from Dragon Quest? Today, we have an animated battle to determine the answer. Smash Bracket is an animated vs. battle series created by InkThinks dedicated to answering the question... Who is canonically the strongest character in Super Smash Bros. History?

Why did Solo win?
According to my community tab, Solo was the least expected Hero to take the battle, so what happened here?
First off, let's get their stats out of the way. Thanks to games like Monster Battle Road-a Japan-exclusive set of arcade games that features many different heroes across the series-we can see that the heroes are all relatively equal in stats. They perform similar feats and seem to have comparable physical prowess.
That makes things more interesting since this comes down to what makes each character unique. Abilities, equipment, and items.
Let's start with last place...
**4th place: Arusu/Erdrick**
Now, Arusu wasn't completely useless here. He has a lot of equipment that can give him resistances, and he has answers to some dangerous abilities from other heroes. For example, the spell 'Fizzle' can stop magic users from casting spells, but Arusu has equipment that would still let him cast magic like Kawhoosh.
He also has a couple ways to remove enemies from the battlefield, inflict sleep on his opponents, negate magic, and resist instant death.
Unfortunately, he does not have many useful abilities beyond that. He can technically summon monsters to the battlefield, but they would be just as likely to attack him as they would anyone else.
Ultimately, although he is a legendary hero, he just doesnt have many of the abilities and gimmicks that were introduced later in the franchise.
**3rd Place: The Luminary**
The Luminary also had several things going for him that could have worked in his favor. For example, Pep Mode gives him a 45% buff to his stats, and he has a *bunch* of abilities that he can use if magic gets shut down. Not only that, but he could also inflict sleep and remove opponents from the battlefield. Unfortunately, he is also the only hero who can't shut down the magical options of the other heroes or negate their spell damage. He also lacks many of the resistances and immunities that the other heroes have.
Although he CAN use two swords at once, so at least he gets style points.
While he was impressive, he just didn't have what it took to bring home the win.
**2nd Place: Eight**
Eight is an interesting one. He is potentially the most versatile hero with all of the different skill paths available in his game. These provide him skills that would work, even if magic was shut off by Fizzle. He could also negate the magic of others. He also had immunity to ALL status effects, including things like 'sleep'.
He also has some unique tricks up his sleeve like his trusty battle hamster, Munchie, or the ability to summon a team of trained monsters. Perhaps his most impressive ability is "Psych Up" which grants him a 7.5x multiplier to his damage. As a downside, he was the only hero without the ability to remove opponents from the battlefield.
All of this made Eight a serious threat, but not quite enough to take the cake.
**1st Place: Solo**
And at the end, we have our champ-iest grand champion, the hero of Zenith, Solo! Not only was Solo one of the few heroes who were professionally trained to fight (rather than needing to figure it out on the go), but Solo's abilities were ridiculous.
His Zenithian armor gave him a ton of magical immunities and gave him abilities that could directly counter many of the other heroes' advantages. Disruptive Wave could nullify stat changes (which would undo things like pep-mode and psych up), or bounce, which can shoot spells back at the attacker.
Not only that, but he had some other spells that are hard to account for. Snub nullifies all magic against him, Poof can instantly remove an enemy from battle, Kaclang can turn him invulnerable, or Hocus Pocus, which can do a whooooole lot of crap.
Here are some of the effects Hocus Pocus:
1. Summons an enormous genie the size of a mountain to fight enemies
2. Cause earthquakes
3. Increase his defense
4. Double his agility
5. Heal to full HP
6. Reverse the flow of time
7. Turn him into a massive, deadly dragon
8. Use illusions to drop an enemy's accuracy
9. Confuse the enemies
10. **Instantly explode enemies into a thousand pieces**
11. Summon something so scary that all enemies flee
12. Guarantee critical hits
13. Enemies lose all MP (which would disable their magic)
If this wasn't enough, Solo can also use the Morph ability to transform into his enemies, allowing him to adopt their stats and learn about them. After this, he can use an item called the Sands of Time to REVERSE THE FLOW OF TIME to restart the battle as many times as it takes for him to win.
And there you go! That is why Solo would solo the other three contenders.
TL;DR
Solo: Could match or counter everything the other Heroes could do and could reverse time if he made a mistake and negate any buffs the others used
Eight: Was immune to all status effects with equipment, and he had the best weapon versatility of the Heroes and had no direct weakness, but he was the only Hero without Poof, which meant he lacked an advantage all the others had
Eleven: Generally solid but lacked a complete immunity to status effect in general, which could leave him vulnerable, and was the only Hero without a way to negate or be immune to magic, meaning he'd be the most likely to be affected by spells
Arusu: Had almost nothing that the other heroes weren't capable of. He lacked attack skills to use if his magic was negated.
Oh yeah, we got the analysis FOR REAL.

I love the detail of each of them swapping weapons to match the others and keep the fight fair in a way. It really shows that they are hero’s, who don’t want to just have a unfair fight.

This was honestly just as good as I thought it would be. It was just a really cool fight all around and seeing Eight and Arusu get into a fist fight when the characters are known for using swords and magic was really funny. This is defenitly one of my new favorites of the series and Im excited to see what comes next

This one hurts to have no analysis because as a diehard DQ fan I am SO curious as to what makes Solo the strongest of them, I definitely thought he'd be the weakest.
Edit: I did some lurking on the discord and apparently it breaks down as follows...
- Due to crossover spin-offs, they all have fairly equal stats and it mainly comes down to their unique abilities and equipment
- Solo wins because he has access to the Morph spell and Sands of Time
- When used together, it means Solo can learn everything about his opponents by turning into them, then reset time to the beginning of the fight, and just sorta keep doing that until he eventually wins.
Ditto. My only guess is that he fought boss character who is similar to sephiroth and recruit him in remake.

Theirs speed scaling to do with a boss named Estark which both Solo fought in his game and Eight can fight in the 3DS remake.
When I double think it over you wouldn't think time manip would be an issue for Eleven since he fought a dark time god.

Even though Smash Bracket is ending, I'm glad that you were able to squeeze in this episode. While its a shame we won't see Solo vs Cloud, I'm glad that Dragon Quest finally got its debut in versus! The fact that this was the debut is a crime considering Dragon Quest has been around longer than Final Fantasy has. But regardless, its here at last. Thanks Smash Bracket!

It would have been funny if it showed that the 9th hero from Sentinels was just watching over the fight the whole time.

I was rooting for 11 because it was the only Dragon Quest game I’ve actually played but oh well.
This was a sick battle royal between some Dragon Quest Heroes
Since Ink has not yet come with an explanation, we have found some potential information for why Solo won. This isnt all of the news so we could be missing stuff and if we are we will let you know. To keep things short, we found a few interesting things he had. One of them was an item called "Sands of Time" which can rewind time, which he seems to be able to do whenever he wants. The other thing he has is an ability called "Morph" where he can become someone else on the battlefield, copying their stats and abilities. So maybe he could become the other heroes and evenly match them, winning? If I find more information I'll let you know but for now this could be helpful.

Alright it looks like Ink will not be doing the explanation since he removed the part of his comment where he says he would explain the outcome. So I will do it. I will be using information told to us by researchers in the discord server.
In terms of stats, they actually all scaled to the same feats. I believe from tanking certain attacks and being able to one shot enemies who can survive the attacks. The games with the feats they were in are called Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road and Dragon Quest: Scan Battlers. Luminary wasn't in Battle Road but he was in Scan Battlers so he got to scale anyway. Also their best speed was from a lightning bolt. So, all of their stats were equal, so it came down to weapons and abilities and combat intelligence, etc. Eight and Eleven were close, however Eight could likely shut down Eleven easier than Eleven could shut him down. Eight also had extra versatility due to summons and Munchie, and maybe a revive? It's unclear if Eight has a revive. Eight has also been trained as a warrior since he was a child so he had better combat experience. (This isn't researchers word, but I Arusu got last because he didn't have as good abilities as the others. Not confident though). And that leads us to Solo. He has Sands of Time, which lets him rewind time to start the fight over, which he can do as many times as he wants. He also has Morph, so he can transform into any hero, copying their stats and abilities. So he could theoretically deadlock anyone and reset time until he won. That should be a good explanation for why Solo won.

Eight is my favorite but for Solo, YUP that would do it!

Eleven beat Arusu because he had more advantages, which meant Eleven could do pretty much anything Arusu could and more. Outside of one Dragon Quest spinoff game called Dragon Quest Tact, Arusu had no attacks that aren't magic and nothing really greatly "unique". Also by attacks that aren't magic I mean that Arusu has normal attacks, like he can attack with a sword very well. I mean that he has no magical attacks that are not magic. For example, Eleven's Flame Slash is not a spell, its an attack skill. Arusu does not have any non spell means to use magic outside of Tact. I think Eight was basically immune to all status conditions? Except BFR though. Solo could match and pretty much counter everyone here even without Morph. Also the BFR (Poof)? Poof cancelled itself out as advantage for everyone but Eight, who could be immune to magic and resisted the only major status effect the Heroes do which is Snooze. Solo could also negate Tension and Pep Power, which are pretty strong in their own right. Luminary gets a 40% buff with Pep Power and Eight gets a 7.5x Multiplier for Tension. Solo basically just had a counter or answer to everything. Since all of their stats were equal, it was moreso a debate of advantages they had other each other. Solo's only disadvantage is that he lacks a lot of attack skills if his own Magic is negated. Technically if he casts Snub at the start he can be resistant to having his magic negated. But other heroes can cast fizzle. However he could always just reset the fight and use the right counter. The time rewind could even (in theory) let him come back from BFR. Also this isn't reliable at all but technically Hocus Pocus has a 1/20 chance of causing everyone else to kamikaze. So while it probably wouldn't happen, I guess if he got cheeky he could roll the dice on hocus locus like 20 times with resets. But, all in all, Solo had the least amount of downsides, he had the best way to capitalize on his upsides with resets, and at worst he could always match someone's abilities with Morph. That should be all of the information to prove again why Solo could win.

Alright lets start off!
Arusu: The protagonist of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation! He is one of the most recognizable Dragon Quest Heroes. This boy, hailing from the world of Erdrea, has trained in the art of combat from a very young age. When he turns 16, he goes off on a quest to defeat Orochi, a 5 headed dragon who supposedly killed his father, making friends along the way. After many dangerous challenges, he finds the monster and slays it. However, after defeating Orochi, he learns that Orochi is nothing more than a servant to the Demon Lord, Baramos. He then goes out once more, exploring the world and getting stronger as he and his partners defeat monsters. When they finally confront Baramos, they do not back down, and they defeat Baramos. Until they learn that Baramos himself is a servant of Zoma! The Master Archfiend of the Dark World. In order to reach Zoma, Arusu has to travel to the world of Alefgard, a world far different than Erdrea. He manages to travel there, and finally defeat Zoma once and for all. However, when he defeats Zoma, the entrance between the world gets sealed! And so he has saved the world, but now he remains in Alefgard, far away from his family. Although, he was very beloved by the people of Alefgard. It is the King of Alefgard that gave Arusu the name most people know him by, Erdrick.
Now lets talk about some of his weapons and gear!
Arusu's best armor is the Armor of Radiance! An armor only usable by him, it restores 1HP per step, and it even reduces all magic and breath damage down to 2/3rd's.
His best shield is the Shield of Heroes! This very durable shield reduces breath damage down to 2/3rd's damage.
His best helmet is Ortega's Helm! Which halves the chance of being hit by Sleep, Surround, and Sap spells.
His sword seen in smash and this animation is called the Sword of Light! (Sorry I do not know if that is his best sword in Dragon Quest.)
As for spells, Arusu's got plenty.
Such as Sizzle, a powerful fire spell, or Bang which is an explosion! Kazap is a powerful lightning attack and he can heal himself to full with Fullheal! He has a 50% chance to revive an ally with Zing, and can instantly win against weak enemies with the Poof spell. Some other spells are self explanatory like Kaclang, Snooze, and Zoom. Last notable spell is the Fizzle Spell, which can prevent enemies from casting spells for a few turns.
Fun Facts:
The Dragon Quest 1 and 2 Protagonists are descendants of Arusu! Arusu can be either a male or a female in some games, one of only 2 Smash heroes to have selectable genders. The world map of Erdrea looks similar to Earth.
And we are done with Arusu! In a few hours I'll try to tackle Solo!

I bet the Hero of Legend Link from A Link to the Past would win this.
He has the Red Tunic that divides the damage taken by 4 and then he can equip the Defense Spell of the Color Dungeon Fairy to increase his defense again or the Attack Spell to double his damage output (more on that later) and then he can alsp do the same with the Blue or red Ring from the Oracle Games that would either reduce damage again to one half or double the damage
Meaning his Default Defense with just the Red tunic would reduce damage to 1/4 while Full Potential Armor reduces damage to 1/16 of what he is supposed to suffer.
His Attacks and Damage Output are Godlike and Godkilling.
He has the Golden Sword which is the Master Sword upgraded Twice and dealing 4 Times the Normal Damage of the Master Sword (meaning 120 Damage in BotW's Damage Values and it gets stronger the more evil the foe is)
He then could use the Red Ring and the Attack Spell of the Colour Dungeon Fairy to double it again twice. Meaning 120 times 4 that would be 480 Damage per swipe, this would be without defense Buff a total of 120 Hearts reduced, meaning he literally can one-shot any Link in his way in Melee Combat.
And it gets more extreme with his Bows.
He has the Silver Arrows which deal 12,5 times of the Damage than Link's Golden Sword, or with other words 50 times the damage the Regular Master Sword deals, this means 1500 Damage per shot which would be 375 Hearts reduced
And they can also damage a Full Triforce Ganon after he got stunned by the Master Sword (but while these Arrows also kill some Bosses within 1 or 2 hits Ganon takes 4 of them due to the fact that the Arrows deal to him only around 1/4 of the damage they are supposed to deal to him) meaning these Arrows combined with the Master Sword and the Byrna Rod which gives him an energy shield that makes him invincible, the Red Tunic and then the potential max damage or the potential max defense literally turns him into a God Killer

So for the record Solo takes out Luminary while Eight takes out Erdrick than Solo defeats Eight. This has been another interesting Smash Royale match in the Bracket.

Is there any reason as to why Eleven didn't dualwield both of his swords of light?
in the game you can have the base light sword and the upgraded version thanks to time travel.
1. Not as iconic as the classic sword and shield setup
2. When casting magic, a sword in the off-hand is useless, whereas a shield can still protect you, which is also true in-game.
